The location is great if you want to stay downtown. Room was clean and spacious and quiet. We were in the south tower which ... is a longer walk than the north tower (if you can get north, get north. If you're in the south tower, some of the rooms are newly renovated and some are not. Ask for one that is. Ours was, and it was very nice. The bed was very comfortable too. The pool is great, although I didn't get in, but loved watching the fish and sharks from the edge...and there is that slide that goes through the shark tank which is pretty cool. The restaurants were good too. My favorite tho, is in the 4 Queens hotel nearby--go to Magnolia's, they have great food! We played in Poker tournaments in Binions while there, and of the downtown hotels, the Golden Nugget is by far the best place to stay! Have fun and good luck!

Even though the pool and H2o bar could close at 2am, it would have been nice to still have access to watch a wide screen tv ... under the stars and to have the lounge area by the firepit open all night. There needs to be more complimentary stuff for the single guests, not all this "buy one entre and get the second one half price or free". I enjoyed the 2 complimentary beer coupons. I really like the layout of the casino and ground floor attractions, although finding your room in the towers can be confusing at times. Over all, I really liked the location to the Fremont Experience, I would book a room there again.

First time on Freemont Street
Diana Oct 31, 2009
Took my father for his 70th birthday. Stayed the first part on the week on the strip. Long walks between casinos and food a ... bit costly. Felt safe walking along the strip, even in the early am hours. Beds and furniture on the strip little more upscale, no coffee maker in room. I have visited and stayed on the strip before. Liked Freemont Street better than the strip, first time visit there. Casinos close together, less walking, food much more reasonably priced, felt safe walking on Freemont Street. Rooms just as clean, furniture little less quality, still no coffee maker in room. When I return to Vegas I will stay at the Golden Nugget again, prefer Freemont Street over the strip!!

Wonderfulness
Nicholas the non-gambler Oct 29, 2009
I absolutely loved this hotel. We stayed in the gold club room. We really didn't need the express check-in but by checkout ... time there was some slot convention going on (plus it was the weekend) and the express check-out was soooo nice. Their beds are to KILL for, and they have the best pillows I have ever had (and I LOVE pillows...so i was in heaven). The people are really nice, but not that kind of over the top totally fake kind of nice. Our room was really clean, and stylish. Like others I expected it to be a bit bigger, but we really didn't need the space. The gold club room floors are carded so you get to feel special :P, and you get bottled water/coffee/candy/apples/etc. in front of the elevators on the gold club floors. There were other perks as well, but we didn't use them (unless the room charge card is one of them). Anyways the hotel staff was always very helpful. You need to be a hotel resident to get into the pool, but they don't usually check unless its busy. The only time we got carded was the last day (Saturday), and only when it got really busy. While I'm not really a gambler I want to come back to Vegas just so I can stay at the Nugget. I am SO glad we chose the nugget over the venetian (the venetian is packed with pretentious...well i won't got there...). At any rate, stay here if you can. You won't regret it. The only thing i didn't like was the grumpy guy at the pool bar, who put next to no liquor in the drinks. Because we were on the strip a lot we only got a chance to eat at a Nugget restaurant once (the noodle house). I really enjoyed it and the prices were reasonable. Every sort of person stays at the nugget. Unlike some hotels there is no one demographic, there are families, retirees, young couples, etc. It was a really comfortable environment.
Traveler type: Couples
We were there for a wedding, and all the wedding guests were on the strip except for us. While it wasn't a lot of fun getting from the nugget to the strip via bus (the deuce), which is 3 *vegas* blocks from the nugget, once we got a car the valet system in vegas is just so nice, and absolutely worth the couple of bucks you give the valets every time. While you can easily walk the downtown area, the strip is a nightmare to walk, especially if you aren't wearing great shoes (e.g. tux shoes). The deuce is alright, but can take a LONG time (1 hr+) if you want to go from downtown to the south end of the strip because of all the stops.

Pretty good experience

We stayed in the South Tower on the 19th floor. We had a nice 42" flat screen TV in the room and cozy spa robes. I don't ... usually use hotel shampoo but forgot to pack mine this trip so was forced to use theirs shampoo/conditioner, which turned out to be not too bad. We ate at The Buffet which we had 2-for-1 coupons for. With the coupon, its a spectacular deal...breakfast for $10, lunch for $11...for 2 people, with as many non-alcoholic beverages included as you can drink. Never went for b'fast, but lunch was decent enough. One side of the restaurant overlooks the Shark Tank/Pool. Had drinks at Claude's Bar, which was okay. One night the bartender was really nice. The next night, one bartender completely ignored us for 10 minutes so I walked around to the other side of the bar and got help from the other bartender, who was nice enough, but served us smaller drinks than we got the night before. The cocktail waitresses are slow to come around the slot machines and tables, except for in the poker room which is why I end up getting my own drinks at the bar and paying for them (I'd rather pay $6 than lose $150 waiting for the waitress to come back). Surprisingly, our room was pretty quiet...no street noise, though we could hear Texans in the hallway. And repairmen decided to work on the hammering the flooring at 9 AM just down the hall from our room. That was a bit annoying, two days in a row. The carpets had just been replaced on our floor so it was nice. Oh and the hecklers at the base of the elevator...I don't know what they're selling but they ask everytime you pass by if you want to see a free show and how long you'll be in town. That's aggravating too. There are 2 Starbucks in the building (YAY!) and one is at the base of the South Tower. No coffee in the room but I travel with a portable coffee maker. Simple, comfortable, you get what you pay for. Late check out is at 5 PM and costs half the room rate. The Rush Tower is being built, making access to the hotel parking restricted and hard to find. Valet takes up to 20 minutes sometimes.

Enjoyed the pool, but there was a shortage of chairs(better get there early). Once I found a place to sit, the sun was hiding ... behind the hotel(due to design). The pool sits in the middle of the hotel. Also a bit unhappy with the drink service in the sportsbook. You had to bet $50.00 to get one free drink ticket, yet my friends at the penny slots were receiving free cocktails all day long. Most of the staff was very friendly. It was my first trip to Vegas, and at times I was made to feel a bit stupid. Like I should already know how to place a bet etc... There was also a large population of the over 60 crowd(scooters zooming around).

We stayed at MGM Grand last visit and decided to stay downtown at the Golden Nugget. We enjoyed the Golden Nugget and would ... stay here again. It was very friendly and clean. The pool and the street were easy to get to and you didn't spend half your day trying to find your way. Did not appreciate the time share deal that we did by mistake...we were told it would only take 1-2 hours of our time. We left the hotel at 11:00 AM and were not brought back until 5:40PM...first and last time we will do this..lesson well learned. Other than this, we truly loved staying at the Golden Nugget.

My First Las Vegas Trip
Making up for lost time even past prime! Oct 27, 2009
I stayed in Las Vegas for the first time in my life to attend my daughter's wedding. Unfortunately I only had two short days ... this stay, but I would have used the pool as well as the SPA services and amenities if had stayed longer. I did use the Salon services and was very pleased. I had chosen to see Blue Man Group through a booking package, but The Golden Nugget offered a great comedian act that I may have chosen to see. Las Vegas, in general, is a great vacation location. The Golden Nugget offers family friendly amenities and is a great location for the "Freemont Street Experience" and Light Show.

The Golden Nugget was clean, comfortable and the service was excellent. I had a problem in my room and they had someone up ... to fix it within 1 hour. The linens in the room were top-rate and the bed was very comfortable. My only complaint is that I was in an ajoining room and the noise from the other room woke me up every day. The people in the other room were not overly noisy, it's just that the ajoining doors were not well insulated against the noise.

This hint is for the waitress we had on Thursday, October 8, 2009 in the Cafe. She didn't speak real good english and she was not knowledgeable about the different wines. Example: I asked her for a wine list and was told i would have to purchase the whole bottle and that they didn't sell it by the glass. ANY WINE. so as I looked around every other table had just purchased a glass not the whole bottle. So I asked her about the house wine and she told me the same thing. I could not have just a glass I had to purchase the bottle and they didn't have a wine list.
