When Gansevoort South opened in February 2008, it brought the glamour of New York City's trend-setting Hotel Gansevoort to sun-splashed Miami Beach. Located at the north end of Collins Avenue-an area regarded as the next epicenter of South Beach-the original 1960s art deco property has assumed a completely new identity as a contemporary urban lifestyle resort. The lobby offers a one-of-a-kind welcome, with 27 varieties of fish and sharks swimming in a 50-foot-long glass tank. Upstairs, some of the largest guest rooms in South Beach average 600 square feet, most with unobstructed ocean views. The decor combines charcoal-gray suede walls with splashes of magenta and teal and playful pinup photos from the 1930s and 40s. High-tech perks range from wireless Internet and fax lines to DVD-CD players, 40-inch Sony flat-screen televisions, PlayStation3, Sony Dream System stereos, and iPod docks. The stylish, high-tech ambience continues in 45,000 square feet of function space, including a 6,500-square-foot ballroom and six state-of-the-art meeting rooms. Outdoor gatherings take place at the 10,000-square-foot Ocean Terrace; the Beach Club's tri-level, 40,000-square-foot tropical pool deck and dining oasis or the Plunge Rooftop, an 18-story-high retreat with a 22,000-square-foot deck, a 110-foot-long pool, and its own bar and lounge. Add two signature restaurants Philippe Chow and STK, the 42,000-square-foot flagship "David Barton Gym + Spa," and a full city block of luxury boutiques, and Gansevoort South ranks as one of South Florida's most fashionable meeting destinations. Guest rooms strike an alluring balance between elegant simplicity and everyday luxe, with clean lines and neutral shades sprinkled with vibrant splashes of color. Visionary architect Stephen B. Jacobs and interior designer Andi Pepper's custom-designed tables, sofas and chairs create spaces that sparkle with Fifties-era glamour and 21st century amenities. Amenities providing by the hotel are airport transfer, dry cleaning, room service, baby sitting service, room service-24 hrs, ballroom, gift shop, safe deposit box, banquet facilities, secretarial services, bar, gym / fitness facilities, high-speed Internet access, spa services (massage, facial, steam room, etc.), wireless Internet access, beauty salon/hairdresser, laundry service, lift / elevator, swimming pool-outdoor, business center, lobby, night club, non-smoking rooms, concierge, parking facilities-at cost, conference facilities, pets allowed, currency exchange, plunge pool, disabled facilities, reception, doctor on call and restaurant. Quiet, but fun!
Spoiled Oct 12, 2009
It is a beautiful hotel with an excellent location. The upstairs pool bar was tons of fun and they had a Monday Night ... Football party complete with several football players. The rooms were okay. Only problem is: no place for an indoor breakfast and the pool area was very hot!

This is the 3rd time I have been there and first found it by mistake. Now I go there for real because it's the best and I ... would recommend it to anyone. I wish they had a club I could join for discounts and referrals.

Lincoln Road is a short distance. I wish I had time to go the other way just to see. I loved it. So did my friends.

Good Facilities, GoodStay
jimi Aug 24, 2009
The stay was great. The pools are amazing. Roomservice could have been a little quicker. Also, I got an "ocean view ... balcony," but it was perpendicular to the ocean and deep into the heart of the U-shaped hotel near the corner. I could still see it, but I would have liked to know that beforehand.

A little too fabulous...
Long Weekender Aug 23, 2009
Sooo..I have mixed reviews. If I could, I'd give this place 3.5 stars instead of 4. Okay, it's definitely posh, trendy & a ... scene if that's what you're looking for. With that comes overpriced food & drink & poor service (ala 20% gratuity automatically included to EVERYTHING). i.e. $10 for a beer, $17 for a mojito, $8 for a grapefruit!!! I went with 7 other 20-30something-year-old females & we had a blast. The male staff was much friendlier than the female staff. One of the waitresses @the rooftop pool mixed up our tabs royally & we spent a lot of time trying to correct things like that. My room had no issues, but the other half of the party had ALOT with theirs...no cold water in the shower, leak from the fridge & then in the closet (soaked one of the girls' shoes). The compensation for all of this trouble was minimal to say the least...a couple of drink tickets, some stale muffins & juice one morning, etc. I'd probably stay again if I got a great deal, but we're considering the trying the W next.

Hotel rooms had loads of space, good location, busy hotel but still lots of space around the pool area. A walk into the main ... area or 5 min cab ride. Good location on the Beach with nice pool side bar. Hotel could have done with a bigger bar inside the hotel for residents.

Hands down this is an awesome hotel with great customer service. Every staff member I encountered was courteous and always ... asked how my stay was going. My only problem was the cost of food and drinks. It's best to visit the rest of South Beach for other dining options. The beach was immaculate and clean. Rooms are very spacious and quiet!!

Gorgeous Hotel!
JA Jul 6, 2009
The hotel is beautiful, rooms are very clean. The staff provides excellent service. The only negative was our room did not ... have a balcony when most others have a balcony. When I asked why, I was told because I booked it through Orbitz and not all rooms come with a balcony. We had the deluxe double bed, it does not give an option to choose a room without a balcony, in fact it says all rooms have them. Other than that, it was a great stay, the staff goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The beds in the room are extremely comfortable. The decor is beautiful and the hotel is in a great location on South Beach.

Gansevoort South Hotel Spa WOW!
Tom Jul 2, 2009
The loby is fantastic, it even smells fresh. There is a coral reef in the loby with three sharks and many reef fish swimming ... around. We enjoyed the roof top pool in the evening with a cool breeze watching TV. It was all great. You must try this hotel for your self.

Great Stay!
Mich Jun 16, 2009
I went there with 3 other girlfriends and had a fabulous time! The facilities were beautiful and the service was top notch. ... The only slight drawback is that the hotel is a little bit further away from everything else but on a few nights we really didn't have to leave b/c they had a great rooftop lounge and club within the hotel. All in all - I thought it was a great hotel and would definitely go back.

Unbelievably...BAD
Diem Oct 5, 2008
First off, they sent me to a room that was not clean. There were hairs on the toilet seat, grime in the shower and tub ... drains, and stains on my sheets. Although they sent someone up to clean, there wasn't anything from management to offset these mistakes. There was loud construction going on directly above us and across from us. If you are staying here anytime soon, I'd suggest bringing ear plugs. Gym STILL not open. STK STILL not open. Staff were generally rude, arrogant, and expected tips. I am still reeling over how bad this place is. On the day we left, we had asked for a late checkout over the phone. The guy said NO. As we checked out, this SAME guy was on the phone with another customer and gave the customer a late checkout until 5:45pm!!! And all we asked for was a late checkout until 1pm (their checkout time is 12pm). Again, bad beginning, bad end. When we got into our taxi, one of the doormen hassled the taxi driver for a tip. On our way to the airport, the taxi driver explained that the doorman said he needed a couple bucks from the driver since he doesn't make enough at the hotel. I've already told over 100 of my coworkers to never give this place a chance, cuz it sucks and will ruin your time in Miami! Please, stay at any one of the other nice hotels in the area.

Will be a great hotel, when it's actually done
Tristan Sep 28, 2008
Gansevoort will be great, but don't go now expecting it to be great now. Fab rooms (huge!), nice bathrooms, 2 very nice ... pools, great rooftop bar. But if you were going for the spa (with my friend and I were) or the much talked about gym, well- those aren't open yet. Even though we were told on the phone they would be open by the time we arrived. And the temporary gym located in a hotel room is not a particularly appetizing substitute. Other than that, pleasant stay.
