Wonderful accommodations!
Bridget Nov 9, 2009
Really beautiful surroundings, very nice room and overall accommodations. Walk to beach was approx 1.5 miles and you had to ... be able to walk up/down steep incline, but overall a great place. Staff personable and very willing to help give directions, look up information, etc. Pool very large and beautiful surroundings. A great resort to stay at!

Excellent, Beautiful Stay
Diane Sep 30, 2009
I enjoyed a beautiful stay, staff and service were great with excellent attention to detail. Such beautiful property, ... landscaping and intimatacy I could have been in another country. I created a regular routine of jogging to Black Sands Beach (great workout just walking up and down the hill!). As a New Yorker, I also enjoyed the food and wine (lots of wine).

Great place, except for the weddings -- at least one per day on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend - the ... one on Sunday, with about 280 guests, seemed to have included guest passes to the pool for locals too. The pool area, which was otherwise large enough for hotel guests, became overwhelmed, noisy, short of chairs and towels - I sort of felt as though I was crashing their party.

The staff didnt really know the special promotion that they are offering with Orbitz, I had to explain a few times about the ... package that I'm getting - either a room upgrad or free breakfast. I didnt like the fact that the check out time was so early and the front desk wouldnt allow half an hour to an hour late check out.

A GREAT VACATION !!
Susan & Eddy 25 Anniversary Aug 9, 2009
We arrived at Estancia La Jolla from 3 days in Los Angeles. When we arrived before noon, we were greeted warmly, checked in ... and began to enjoy our experience immediately. The room was beautiful, the Orbitz upgrade included free breakfast daily, which could total up to $42 a day. The location was a little north of the town of La Jolla, but as long as you had a car, that turned out to be a blessing. The concierge recommended Jake's Del Mar restaurant for lunch, which was right on the beach. The food was great and the view was perfect. When we drove into La Jolla, I knew we had made the right choice to stay at Estancia. While the view of La Jolla Point was beautiful, it was kind of crowded, low tide smelled, and I couldn't imagine enjoying staying "in town". We ate several meals at the hotel, and the food was first rate. The pool and jacuzzi was BEAUTIFUL, the staff very attentive and friendly, and we enjoyed chatting with the restaurant waiters, chef, and restaurant manager. For NO good reason, we were treated like VIP's. I would recommend this hotel to families, couples, corporate meetings and anyone who wants to enjoy first class service,a beautiful setting, and close proximity to San Diego. We drove in to San Diego to see a Padres game, Coronado Beach, the San Diego Zoo, golfed at Torrey Pines (my husband walked on, rented clubs, and teed off at 3 pm on a Wednesday with NO wait)!! And we relaxed at Estancia.

On the back of the Hotel map, there is a walking map. We ventured to Black's Beach, which is a 1.3 mile walk to the "head of the beach". When you arrive, be ready for the other part of the adventure! It is probably almost a mile D-O W-N a steep paved road to one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen! Bring a water bottle, because it is very private, and nothing as far as public facilities. BUT, if you are hearty, you will be treated to quite a view. Good luck climbing back up the hill. Just take your time.

Not a Family Hotel
Mark Jul 15, 2009
The hotel had beautiful surroundings and gardens. It was more of an adult resort. Very quiet, nice place, not recommended for ... family vacation. Parking was $25.00 a day and convenience charges of $9.00 per day per room was too much, this was for internet and I don't know what else. These were mandatory charges, not optional, cost for a week $300.00. Overall very overpriced for what you get. Also pool closed at 10pm a little early for parents wanting time to relax after a day of sight seeing. Also no vending machices for soda or ice.

The hotel and staff were superior. Clean, plush, and gorgeous grounds. The price was great until the mandatory valet ... parking fee ($25/day) and the $14/day hospitality fee were factored in. Even so, it was worth it, but I would have prefered to know the full price up front.

Estancia La Jolla Hotel
Fmac May 11, 2009
I'm a professional photographer. I went to La Jolla from Colorado to photograph my clients. I wanted something close to the ... beach so I could enjoy the sun, surf and sand while I was there. This hotel looked to be the perfect location, between La Jolla and Del Mar where I would be photographing. So while the hotel was first class in every way, there were a few small things that bothered me. Upon arrival, I was told there would be a $25 per day charge for parking. (My fault, it was in the fine print but I didn't see it.) Upon check out, I was told there would be a $12 per day resort charge, (which wasn't in the fine print). To their credit they dismissed the resort charge when I expressed my displeasure. With taxes that would have added another $50 a day. If I had to do it over (and I will when I return) I'll stay closer to the beach with a view of the ocean for what amounts to the same price.

Beautiful hotel with wonderful service
Love San Diego Apr 23, 2009
My husband and I stayed here in the end of March 09. The property is absolutely beautiful. I am a garden/flower lover and ... every aspect of the hotel was completely picturesque. Most often, we felt as though we were the only guests because we rarely saw other people on property. Breakfast was included with our Orbitz deal and was wonderful. We were also upgraded (without asking to be) to a garden courtyard room on ground level. Our room door was surrounded by more beautiful flowers and the smell upon entering and exiting the room was great. Room was very clean and comfortable. Staff was all very friendly. Only annoyance was the mandatory $25 valet fee, but after receiving an outstanding rate for the entire trip on Orbitz, one could hardly complain. Pool was beautiful also.

Watch out for hidden costs!
retrorich Feb 14, 2009
the place is beautiful and can be very private but there are hidden costs that aren't always divulged prior (was a little ... annoyed at Orbitz for this) They were priced at only $150 which is a great rate but with a non optional valet at $25 and a resort fee of $14 then you're quickly back at the $200 range of hotels in la jolla that have better service. I wasn't terribly enthused with the front desk clerk, the servers nor the phone operators. The night one for the wake up call was downright surly. Its definitely not geared for business nor anything you bring that uses electricity (ipod, computer, cell phone)--you'll be searching in vain for outlets that all seem to be taken up or are behind all the heavy furniture!

My review of Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa
Nga Sep 10, 2008
This was my first stay at the Estancia and it was a great experience. Every member of the staff was friendly and helpful. ... From the valet staff to the concierge to room service, everyone took the extra effort to ask us how are stay was and offered assistance should we need it. I briefly mentioned to one of the staff that are stay was part of a short getaway from work and school. The last night of our stay, we found cookies on a dinner plate(I can only assume they were warm when delivered--we came back to our room late that night)and bottled water in our room w/ a personalized note hoping that our getaway was good. It was a nice additional touch. The restaurant served excellent food at the usual hotel prices. You can sit outside in the balcony overlooking the courtyard during the day if you eat at the Adobe or you can eat near the outdoor fireplace in the evening time at Mustangs and Burrows. The location (just across UC San Diego)was very convenient. The hotel is just about 5-10 minutes from La Jolla Shores (kayaking and snorkeling)and the Cove. On the down side, there is no small shop within the hotel for sundries (apparently they had it at one time) but a CVS is about a 5 minute drive down the road. In terms of the room, extremely clean and quiet. I looked at the corners of the bathroom and the room drapery...impressively clean.

Lynn Sep 9, 2008
The Estancia had gotten good reviews, but we were nonetheless pleasantly surprised when we arrived to such a gorgeous place. ... The staff could not have been friendlier or more attentive, the rooms were large, clean, and well-appointed. What was most appealing were the lush plantings and soothing sound of fountains. We were visiting the San Diego area, but were happy we stayed in quieter La Jolla. It is much more charming and close to good walks, shopping, and beaches, even though not as convenient for trips to the sights, zoo, etc.
