Nice views, No beach
BIG SEXY Sep 9, 2009
I really enjoyed not having to worry about what we we're having for breakfast since breakfast was furnished by the hotel. ... Happy hour was nice but they should try serving chicken wings and nachos instead of popcorn and pretzels since you are drinking liquor. It is really in a good location but just wish it were near a beach but you can't have everything. We went on a couple of cruises while we were there, the Sunday brunch cruise was excellent.

This Hotel is in a Great location. You can walk to many interesting areas of downtown San Diego. The room was very clean ... and the service was as expected. The free breakfast is a great feature. This hotel only has valet parking, and they tend not to answer the phone at the valet station.

Lot's of noise
Kathi Jul 27, 2009
Second trip to this hotel. Found it very busy because of convention in town and very noisy with children running up and down ... the halls. Also located very close to train noise. Parking expensive and quite a long walk to the gaslamp district. Other hotels are better if you wish to be in the heart of the Gaslamp district. Air conditioner very noisy and room was cold when on and hot when off.

A Night to Remember
SD Expatriot Jun 28, 2009
My wife and I booked at the Embassy Suites to enjoy a little time to ourselves (our four kids stayed with family). I lived in ... SD for seven years and know the area pretty well. Downtown SD is more exciting and more alive than ever, and the hotel is nicely situated near Seaport Village, San Diego Bay, The USS Midway museum, Horton Plaza and the newly revitalized Gaslamp District. We dined in Pacific Beach at our favorite restaurant, Lamont Street Grill, beached at La Jolla and Coronado's Silver Strand, strolled the shops in Seaport Village and enjoyed the views of the bay. Other reviews warned about the pricey parking (about $28/night), but we couldn't find any reasonable, safe alternatives. They also charge for internet access (another $15/day). These added charges eroded some of the price advantage, but all in all it was worth it. The breakfast, with buffet and made-to-order offerings, was included and was delicious, and the evening Manager's Reception with complimentary beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) helped tip the scales back. The two-room suite was spacious and very well appointed. From granite countertops, small fridge and microwave to a nice balcony, we loved the room. We would return, but I'll leave my laptop at home! Thank goodness for smart phones.

Coronado's Silver Strand beach is a wonderful place to enjoy the sun and surf. Take Market Street east away from the bay and get on I5 South. Merge into the lane for the Coronado Bay Bridge (no longer a toll!) and cross the Bay, enjoying the best views of the city anywhere. Turn left on Orange Ave. and follow towards the Hotel Del Coronado. Turn right before you reach the Hotel Del and look for free street parking. Walk to the prettiest white-sand beach in SD! The drive is less than 15 minutes and the views are priceless.

We were visiting San Diego because my husband had a conference at the Hyatt, which is literally down the block from the ... Embassy. We stayed 4 nights at the Hyatt and then 3 nights at the Embassy. The Hyatt's lobby is beautiful but that's about it. We loved the Embassy. The rooms were very big and the complimentary breakfast and cocktail party were very nice. We would definately stay there again. The hotel is very clean. My daughter had plenty of room to run around. And the location is great. We even took the train to Anaheim and walked from the Embassy to Amtrak. It took less than 5 minutes. Very convenient. All I can say is this is the place to stay for families, singles, couples, etc.
Traveler type: Family
If you eat dinner at the restaurant during the cocktail party hours, you can keep walking back and forth from your table to the "bar" and drink for free. We asked to sit on the "outside" part of the restaurant and just kept walking back and forth and getting our complimentary wine. It saved us money and it will save you money too. Don't be embarressed, as no one said anything to us. :)

I have stayed at Embassy Suites before and this was one of the reasones I chose this hotel. It had all of the amenities that ... I needed and was convenient to the downtown asrea. The room was a little dated. The wallpaper was coming off of the wall by the window, the phone cord didn't fit in the phone properly, therefore, causing static and the sound on the TV was also a problem on certain channels. However, the room was clean and the staff were courteous.
