Downtown Portland has plenty of on-street parking, along wih surface lots. I saved plenty by not using valet, and most of the time I parked on the street, right on 4th Avenue, just outside the hotel. The meters are free after 7 PM, until 8 AM the next morning.

Great Location at the edge of Downtown
Ken Aug 20, 2009
This hotel is located at the edge of the downtown district, in OldTown, but everything is within walking distance: the ... Riverfront, Saturday Market, numerous restaurants/bars, Pioneer Square. Keep in mind Portland's blocks are only 200 feet long, whereas a normal city block is 660 feet. Your map might indicate 9 blocks to Pioneer Square, but in reality it's only about 3 normal city blocks. Voodoo Donuts is right around the corner on 3rd Avenue, and it draws a crowd. Yes, there are panhandlers, homeless, weirdos, strip clubs, but they are all over the downtown area, not just by the Embassy. They were harmless, but stay at an antiseptic airport hotel if that bothers you. The Max light rail is about 1 block away. The sign painted behind Dante's (a nice little cabaret club on 3rd Ave & Burnside) says "Keep Portland Weird". Nice restaurants or bars we walked to: Dante's, ThirstyLion Pub, Kell's, Huber's, Rockbottom, Powell's bookstore.

Bait and switch
tired traveler Aug 16, 2009
Had reserved a King/ non-smoking room. When we checked in at midnight were placed in a TINY room with only a double bed and a ... view of the roof vents. (the kind of room that you should at least apologize/explain to the customer BEFORE they see it)We were too tired at that point to haul our luggage back down stairs. In the morning we did ask to be switched. We packed up our luggage and moved to another room that reeked of smoke, so we once again went down to the front desk and asked for a different room and a rate reduction for the prior night. ($169 for the tiny room w a double bed is ridiculous) We were only given $10 off but were at least placed in a very nice room. If the woman at the front desk had said, "I am sorry, but this room is our last room available" or made some type of acknowledgement that the room we were getting was not what we had reserved, OR given us the upgraded room that we were given at 10AM the next morning, we wouldn't be upset. The location was central and convenient except for all the one way streets in downtown Portland.

Hotel Review
Win family Aug 16, 2009
It was a grand hotel, with not so grand help. It was not warm, it was noisy, and the in room cups were dirty. The gal who ... made our omelletes and the security gaurd who calmed down drunk and disorderly, next door guests, and the door man were the best part of this staff. We would not stay here again.

Embassy Suites Portland Downtown
Jeff Aug 16, 2009
Very convenient to all activities in and around Portland. Within easy walking distance to the Sat/Sun market and all ... high-end shopping stores. Easy driving to surrounding area, including malls. Great valet parking - pay the hotel and DON'T park in the garage yourself unless you plan to leave your car there. It's a 18.00 every trip in and out! Very expensive - hotel charges 28.00 a day and you can the car in and out as many times as you wish.

Beautiful Hotel!
cmk Jul 4, 2009
The downtown location was fantastic. Very Central with lots of shops and cafe's. We had a King suite that was extremely ... reasonably priced for the quality of the hotel. Beautifuly redone old world charm of the lobby and room. The only drawback is that the hotel does not have complimentary parking. There is a lot across the street that hotel guests can park in. It's $18.00/per day or $28.00/per day vallet, but this is not uncommon for downtown hotels and this hotel is worth the parking fees.

Great location, wonderful room!
tlawish May 22, 2009
The hotel is beautiful and centrally located in the heart of Portland. Just blocks away from the Saturday Market and Voo-doo ... Donuts. The beds are comfy, and everyone is very friendly. the restaurant served really good food. The free breakfast is a great benefit. My only criticism is of the nightly manager's reception. After waiting in a 30 minute line for one free drink (not worth the wait), the chips and salsa are really disappointing. Skip the reception. The rest of our trip was a great one!

We went on the Haunted tour of Portland. It starts just afew blocks from the Hotel and is entertaining and a great way to get a little exercise, but not the most exciting thing I'd ever done... felt silly actually calling out to ghosts, asking them to appear.

Loved the architecture and the building's charm. Rooms were large and had everything one could need. Beautifully decorated. ... Bed was extremely comfortable. We were there for a nearby wedding. Very convient location and wonderful free breakfask the next morning before we left. Wish there were staff milling around the lobby to help with questions.

Small Space
Disappointed weekenders Mar 8, 2009
I have never stayed at an embassy suite where I did not have a suite. The room we had was so small I felt like it was a ... closet that had been converted into a room. If the curtains were opened it showed a lovely view of the pipeworks of the buildings heating and air conditioning. Cannot say anything good about the room other than it was clean, and that is important. If the room had been less expensive maybe I would have excpected to get a smaller room but it was no less expensive than any other Embassy Suite I have stayed at. Will avoid that particular hotel the next time I go to Portland.

The downtown Portland Embassy Suites is a beautiful old renovated hotel in a good location to restaurants, shops and ... entertainment. We were very satisfied with everything from the friendly, helpful staff at the front desk to the large, comfortable room. We enjoyed both managers' happy hour and the breakfast the next morning.
