We celebrated our anniversary at the hotel, enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Sea Breeze Grill, and took long walks every ... morning on one of the most delightful beaches we've ever visited anywhere. The staff were welcoming, curteous, and sincere in their desire to make our stay memorable. Our room was fabulous: large, elegantly appointed, huge bathroom, lovely terrace to laze on, just a few steps from the beach. This trip was a long weekend in paradise!

Great stay at Elbow Beach
Sofiabella Sep 26, 2009
Our stay at the hotel was very nice. It is really a romantic place and the most romantic island we know. The food was ... terrific and the service was great as well. We got upgraded to a premier room so that was great. Our only complain was that the staff started cutting grass at 8am in the morning and our room was right next to a private road so we head the traffic whenever we opened our balcony door.

Excellent Room- Best Beach!!!
Frequent traveler Sep 14, 2009
Had a great trip! Was sent champagne from the staff to celebrate our anniversary- nice touch. Can't beat a 2 hour flight ... from Boston! This Resort has the best beach and amenities. Attentive staff at the beach helped with towels, umbrellas, chairs, etc. It was our first trip to Bermuda- and although we prepared ourselves for sticker shock, we were still amazed about the cost of everything (not just at the resort- the whole island). The food, while very expensive, is top notch- we didn't have a single dish that wasn't perfectly prepared. Our room was spotless, renovated, with a 5 star bath and view. Staff were friendly. I would recommend 100%.

Gracious, Wonderful Retreat
Mary Aug 12, 2009
Though this hotel is not new and cutting edge, it is personable, gracious and lovely. It's not perfect, but the staff makes ... up for any shortcomings you may feel. The main hotel is not updated so try the cottages which are newer and more fresh. Also, the room service was some of the best I have ever had and the spa out of this world. I travel very extensively and truly have not had a hotel spa and room service this good in years. There are a couple of restaurant groups represented here. One is very good (room service as an example) and the other is lacking. The Mickey's restaurant at the beach is only okay for food (however, great for ambiance), but the Veranda Bar and Seahorse Grill are very nice for food.

Not ready for prime time
Fun in the Sun Aug 10, 2009
We chose this hotel due to its good location in Bermuda and past reputation. We actually stayed there several years ago and ... had fond memories. It is high priced but we thought it would be worth it to get the remembered service and meals. what we found though was a meer shell of its former self. It is also perplexing given that they are now part of a high end Hotel group, Manderin Oriental. Our basic issue is that we did not feel that we got our money's worth and could have done better for what we spent elswhere on the island. the htel had a disorganized feel about it. the staff was not sure what was going on and we received conflicting information from the desk several times. In addition, we found other at the hotel that experienced the same feeling about the place. It is a shame since they do have one of the best locations in Bermuda and a great property on which to run a first class operation. i can only assume that the economic downturn has made them have to cut corners. Still managed to have a good time though.

Make sure you carefully weigh the value of the european meal plan versus the American plan where you get meals included. If you do not want to venture out much, the meal plan may be well worth it. there is a great little breakfast or lunch place, The Paraquet, just down the street if you do not want to pay for the overpriced breakfast or lunch meals.

Bermuda - Great Family Vacation Place
Satisfied Vacationer Aug 10, 2009
One of the memorable vacations we have had. The hotel has a beautiful private beach. It is also close to the bus line that ... makes travelling around the island more affordable than hiring a taxi for each outing. For the fearless, renting a moped is the best way of traveling around the island. Bermuda is a great place for a family vacation made more enjoyable by the staff at Elbow Beach Hotel.

Great Weekend Getaway!
Paula in Need of a Getaway Jul 28, 2009
The hotel was very quiet and restful. Every lounge chair, whether at the pool or the beach, had umbrellas to shade you from ... the strong Bermuda sun. Beach and pool servers were always available to refill a drink or move your chair. Very few children (on the island in general) enabled us to have a moaning and crying free getaway. Restaurants were adequate for the size of the resort, but not top rate.

If going to the Dockyard to shop and walk around, inquire about when the cruise ships are coming in. Avoid those days because it gets really crowded. If you can't avoid those days, go very early. Cruise ships got in around 11:30-12:00.

Great Vacation Spot
Paul Jul 21, 2009
We just got back from a 4 day vacation at Elbow Beach and loved it. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the beach is ... superb. We did some snorkeling off the beach and saw lots of fish. The staff at the beach and pool were very friendly as were all the locals we met. The wait staff at the Veranda Bar were excellent. There were a couple times where the bartenders were a little abrupt/unfriendly (Mickey's Beach Bar during the day, and the Cafe Lido). We rented a moped from the Cycle Livery and the family that runs it were awesome. They were very friendly and took the time to give us a thorough training session. We went out to the Dockyard but it was pretty deserted and many shops weren't even open until 10:30am and none of the restaurants were open until 12:30. We would skip this next time. We went into Hamilton at 9am on Friday which was a mistake. There was a ton of traffic and it was very difficult to find a place for the scooter. We had our best lunch at the Reef's. beautiful setting and very friendly staff, great food reasonably priced (at least relative to Elbow Beach which had very expensive food - $19 for a burger).

Approach with Caution
Dan Jul 21, 2009
We stayed at three different, similarly priced hotels while in Bermuda and found that Elbow was very dissapointing, and ... eventually checked out early. It is a beautiful location and has a great beach, but the room we stayed in was damp, musty, and had deferred maintenance. We tried working with hotel staff to move to a more well cared for room, and they were not particularly friendly or helpful. The hotel had low energy--- it felt like a hotel that the owner had decided not to invest in pending a renovation. The pool/spa amenities were pretty mediocre. The property may have other rooms that have been remodeled and cared for, but approach with caution.

WORST ROOM OF MY LIFE!
M&M Jul 21, 2009
We stayed in the main hotel which was a HUGE mistake. Our room had a dehumidifier in it which leaked and caused the carpet ... to have a large wet stain for our entire stay. Because of this the room STUNK HORRIBLY. We tried to get a room change but the hotel was booked solid. I DREADED returning to the room at the end of the day. The hallway carpets should have been replaced YEARS ago. I felt like I was in a cheap motel walking down the hallway. The bathroom was very small; the door hit the toilet as you opened it. There is very little counter space in the bathroom; i had to keep most of my toiletries in the nightstand. Manderin Oriental should be ashamed. If an executive were to walk in that room they would be horrified..... (When booking we thought we couldnt go wrong because the hotel is a Manderin Oriental...we were VERY WRONG) Worst room I've ever stayed in in my life. The gym wasnt that great. Water was not available 1/2 the time I was in there. On a positive note: The staff is very nice and the beachfront is beautiful. The food at the restaurants was very good. Apparently a large section of the hotel has been upgraded. Unfortunately we did not have the opportunity to check this out. I, personally, would not go back. My feeling is if they let people stay in a room that i wouldnt let an animal stay in would i take a change that the rest of the hotel is spectacular....? If we hadn't pre-paid we would have checked out in a second.

Linda Jul 11, 2009
When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that they did not have our reservation and they here totally booked. The manager ... came over and told us Orbitz cancelled our reservation. We had our confirmation from Orbitz and after about 1 hour they told us that they had a room for us, we were very happy with the hotel, not Orbitz. Our week was wonderful with bermudaful weather, we love Bermuda and will always go back. But we were ready to leave for the airport, we booked through Orbitz round-trip transportation and our ride never show up, we had to pay for a taxi to get us to the airport on time, once again the hotel and the wonderful bermudian people fixed the problem that Orbitz cause. The hotel was wonderful, their beach is one of the best we have been at pink sand and clear, clear water. Bermuda has some wonderful restaurants, the hotel restaurants are all very good, but travel to other restaurants are all part of being in bermuda. During the day traveling by bus is one of the best ways to see the island.

A Bit Disappointed Jun 29, 2009
We have been all over the Carribean, and Bermuda is truly unique in it's history, natural beauty, and weather. This, and a ... really helpful doorman, saved our trip. Elbow Beach is a Mandarin Oriental hotel (and charges you for it), but the rooms in the main hotel are damp, a bit moldy, and totally outdated. The king bed was really just 2 twins pushed together. The air conditioner dripped all over us every time we passed under it on the way to the bathroom or the door. If it hadn't been for the majestry of the island and the pleasant nature of most of it's inhabitants, we would have walked away from our anniversary trip fairly disappointed.

Bermuda has fabulous restaurants. A few of our favorites were Mickeys, Blu, and Silk. Most everything can be reached by bus during daylight hours. Meals are really expensive, so try these places for lunch, or skimp on lunch and splurge on dinner.

Elbow Room, great beach..watch your room
Bermuda crew Jun 15, 2009
Great location, good looking place, staff was mostly helpful and friendly. Many servers were pleasant, but not attentive. ... [...] the door man was great, suggested a great running path to take. Room was located in 4th floor of main building, unhappy with odor/musty smell. Smell was bad enough that room had a stand alone dehumidifier that ran constantly and had to be emptied after 2 days. Room was old looking, view was great! We spent a lot of time at the beach, which was beautiful, the best in Bermuda, after 4 previous visits to other properties. The grounds need a little sprucing up, no attention to detail for items that at one time looked very important/pretty and maintained. Examples: flags not flown from staff each day, masonry/steps breaking up in places, flowers and trees need trimming. It is disappointing that management would let such a gem of a property run down. Restaurants were nice, food was good, but a bit over the Bermuda price range. Desserts were poor, no home baked goods equal to home. We went out to places we had eaten at before, a bit cheaper. We would go back, BUT make sure the room was newer and price was lower/consistent with room quality.
