it's all good...
Lori Mendenhall Aug 21, 2009
this place was perfect, as it's oceanfront! they kept it very clean considering the amount of sand that gets into the rooms ... unavoidably. the staff was very friendly and helpful, although one gal could have been better about specific directions to things like the lighthouse or the airport. Virginia Beach is a great place to bring the kids, it's safe, the ocean is lovely, and there is lots of free entertainment.

the one restaurant we ate at that was on the main strip was not too good (George's). it was ok but I was not impressed. once you go a block or two in we found some much better food. there is even a grocery store 3 blocks from the beach which has a lot of good stuff to stock your mini fridge with. EconoLodge's mini fridge was very helpful. the kids liked the free breakfast but I found it minimal.

We went to the beach & enjoyed. We were very impressed with VA Beach. I really liked having a bike available for "free." We ... didn't have to drive. The only thing this hotel lacked was a good place to dry swimsuits & beach towels. We had to make do using the chairs on the patio.
Traveler type: Family
There is free live family entertainment on the boardwalk. We saw a free juggling act & then a magician. The town has put lots of money into the tourist infastructure and it shows.

small, but cute oceanfront hotel
Patrice Aug 12, 2009
I would highly recommend this hotel. However, if you want a big high-rise, it's not for you .But we loved our 1st floor room ... steps from the Boardwalk and beach .We had a patio to sit out on, then grass to walk across to the Boardwalk and beach. The pool was very small, but adequate. The continental breakfast was lacking in fruit, but had cereal, bagels, and danishes. The only drawback was the terrible parking situation. It was an EXTREMELY small lot that was hard to get in and out of, and you were only allowed one car. But the proximity of the beach was wonderful. I was glad the fridge also had a (cold) freezer to freeze bottled water .I would stay here again. Good location, too!

Dine at Laverne's! The crab legs steamed with old bay seasoning are awesome. Got the steamed clams, and the watermelon martini, too! Stay away from Waterman's---pricy,small portions.

Great Hotel
Michelle T. Jul 21, 2009
We felt it was a great location; we had a very nice stay and had great access to the beach from the hotel. The room was clean ... and we had access to restaurants and shops. They even allowed us to check out an hour later with no extra charge because we were enjoying our selves on the beach so much.

The hotel was in a great location with plenty to do within walking distance. We wished we could have stayed longer but we are planning to go back.

Expensive for amenities
Matthew Jul 8, 2007
The Econo Lodge on the Ocean was adequate, but I have stayed at many other motels which are much nicer for much better ... rates. The parking is terrible, rooms are small and I just don't feel that it is worth the cost. It was in a great location and nice being right on the ocean.

I got what I paid for
Sarah May 29, 2007
I stayed at this oceanfront hotel on Memorial Day. The location was great. Right on the boardwalk and near all the shops ... and restaurants. The rooms were clean but severely outdated and they showed a lot of wear and usage. Free wireless internet was a pleasant amenity, continental breakfast was adequate, and he pool was small, but clean. The staff was by far the shining quality of this stay. All were pleasant, welcoming and very accomadating. Parking was 1 space per room and I did not encounter any difficulties, although larger vehicles may find some challenge with the space size.
