The Dylan Hotel for The Perfect Midtown Manhattan Hotel Location… Located in the city's vibrant core in midtown Manhattan, the best of New York City is just outside our front door. We're only a short walk from Grand Central Station, Times Square, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Empire State, Fifth Avenue Shopping and the great restaurants of Manhattan. Only a few minutes away from New York's Jacob Javits Convention Center Surrounded by excitement. Cradled in comfort. That's what a stay at the Dylan Hotel in New York City is all about. Dylan's interiors, by Jeffrey Beers, mark a deliberate departure from both the too stark and overly hip designs prevalent in the high-end boutique market, all in the 107 rooms of the hotel. Beers has created a timeless look for the property that redefines opulence for a new age while preserving the landmark-quality architecture of the 1903 Beaux-Arts structure. The hotel features rich tones like amethyst, jade, emerald, opal and amber. Fabrics are soft and luxurious. The grandeur of the Dylan's public areas is evident from the moment one passes through the entryway.

Dylan was a dissapointment
Texas Joe Nov 4, 2009
There was a construction project right outside our window and the noise was horrible right up until one oclock in the ... morning. The staff should have offered us a room off the street but they only wanted to let us know that the construction was not their fault. This is a terrible lapse of management, the hotel was not full at all and it says that management is not at all attendent to guests. We will never stay at the Dylan again. We have traveled to NYC often over the last 12 years and intend to continue doing so but have learned a hard lesson on relying on the hotel management to be aware of the local conditions.

Spacious room, nice staff, but...
MooboyNYC Aug 16, 2009
Friendly and helpful staff, spacious rooms with high ceilings, and complementary Internet access made this a pleasant stay ... for us. The hotel has an interesting history a nice motif, and lots of good ideas, but falls short on the details, though most of the details didn't affect us much. The bathroom was large, but the marble bathroom floor was dangerously slippery, both when dry and wet. The phones didn't work (had cell), the smoke alarm was chirping (they removed it), the iron didn't work, knobs on furniture were loose, only one bar of soap (we could deal), only two pillows (they provided more on request), one towel hanger missing.

Great Experience, Great Location
Lynn D. Jul 20, 2009
After Orbitz booking, I checked at other sites & was a little worried about this hotel. I had read bad reviews about the AC ... not working in the summer. Turns out it was only in the lobby. I shouldn't have worried! Each room had individual controls. Service people were great & helpful. Location was superb! From Grand Central Station, you have many, many options of different trains, so transportation was great. Also, the stop for buses going directly to JFK & LaGuardia are only 1/2 blk away. We had a fabulous time & found the hotel to be lovely. Not too fancy, but who wants to stay in the hotel if you go to NYC? We will stay here again.

Overall this was a good experience - nicely appointed, clean room. It was much smaller than on my original stay. Staff were ... very accommodating in getting me into my room early. Room had access to a great patio - unfortunately it was rainy & cool so couldn't take in the views! Only real disappointment was that the bed had no headboard and no reading lights.

The hotel is in a good location and handy for Midtown attractions and Broadway. The staff were very helpful, especially the ... concierge who handled the valet parking. For central NY, the room size was reasonable and the room was pleasantly quite without any excessive traffic or city noise. Breakfast in the adjacent restaurant was ok, but nothing special. I would use this hotel again.

Good Location
Sarah Dec 7, 2008
My stay at the Dylan Hotel in NYC was relatively comfortable. I was only in my hotel room for a couple of hours over one ... night but the accommodations were more than adequate. The room was somewhat small but it was clean and quiet. The hotel is also very conveniently located 2 blocks from Grand Central where you can get the subway or easily catch a cab. I did not have much interaction with the staff other than at check-in and check-out but they all seemed friendly and helpful.

When I checked in they were not able to get us in early but when it was check in time they were able to upgrade us to a king ... size bed for free. Well maybe it was free. A very nice hotel and the staff was great. The only thing that was a problem was a 4.30 charge for something that they cant explain maybe it was for the mints that i took from the check in desk.

Great location, decent amenities
Elizabeth Mar 1, 2008
The Dylan hotel is just a block or so from Grand Central Station, and two blocks from The New York Public Library. You can't ... do much better than that. Rooms are large for Manhattan hotels; there was a large shower but no tub. The bathroom sink was poorly configured and splashed regularly. Closets and bureau were about average. The restaurant is a steakhouse, Benjamin, and is very expensive for dinner. Lunch and breakfast are high average for such a well-located hotel. It's disappointing that the room-service dinner menu has so few reasonably-priced options, meaning the entrees are all quite expensive. Do yourself a favor and patronize the excellent food options on the lower level in Grand Central.

Basic not boutique hotel in a great location.
melanie Feb 24, 2008
Great location, but no real value for money. Decor somewhat tired. Room very basic. Its the old Chemists Club building and ... though it tries to incorporate little quaintnesses of a pharmacy, it lacks character. Facilities very basic. More of a business hotel where all you need is a well situated room. Great steakhouse in the hotel.

Wouldn't pay full price but worth bargain price
Cheryl Jan 27, 2008
We were lucky to find a great bargain price for this hotel. For what we paid, it was fine, but I probably would not pay full ... price. The room was nice enough, and spacious by New York standards, but some of the furniture looked a little worn. The room was also a bit warm and we could not get it cooler. A small incident regarding a problem in the room was hard to resolve because the person sent up to check did not speak english. The location near Grand Central is convenient since there is a direct shuttle there to Times Square, but there isn't alot right around the hotel itself. All in all, it was worth the bargain price we paid, but not worth the rack rate.

HIdden treasure
Peter Sep 22, 2007
The Dylan Hotel is barely noticeable as you walk by, but that's one of the best thing's about it! Coupled with the Benjamin's ... Steak House, this W like hotel is housed within the old Chemist's Club, a theme that is used in the room themselves in subtle ways. The Pyrex beakers for glasses in the bathroom make for a unique touch, for example. The rooms, while not what I would call spacious, are comfortable and relaxing, and the staff were only to willing to help with all of the things we asked of them. The location, 41st & Madison, is ideal for the tourist, being close to almost all the major sites. Being an ex-New Yorker, it was also just far away enough from the hustle to enjoy an early morning walk to get breakfast without fear of being trampled to death. Considering how much you would pay for a hotel with all the Dylan offers, this is value for money for sure.
