Wonderful hotel, great location.

Travel Junkies Oct 19, 2009

We had a large, very clean, nicely decorated room with kitchenette (micro, fridge, sink, cabinets, coffee maker, cups & ... glasses), table & 2 chairs for eating, and a sitting area (large sofa, coffee table, chair and ottoman). For the kitchenette, you can request additional dishes or utensils from the front desk. There is a separate vanity area with lighted makeup mirror & hair dryer. Bathroom had plenty of room to store items. Complimentary toiletries were A+. Beds were extremely comfortable with plenty of pillows. Parking was very convenient in a garage attached to the hotel but pricey at $20 per day with unlimited in and out. Hotel is close to metro, shopping areas, good restaurants. There are 2 food markets very close by (one just down the street and one around the corner). They do give discount if you have family member attending local university but you must book direct with hotel. The $9.95 breakfast buffet was nothing special. It looked like what we've had in many chain hotels; however, the room it was in was very nice. After the first morning, we shopped at the food market close by and had breakfast in our room for the remaining days.

A Small Apartment - Great Location

FunFlorida Adventurer Sep 30, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Great time in Montreal. Hotel is older and was like having a small, comfy apartment in the city. We had a huge corner room ... with a kitchenette - extremely comfortable. It's right off St. Catherine Blvd. where we walked to restaurants and the center of the city. We chose to take a taxi to Old Montreal vs. drive. It is too far to walk. The breakfast is in a lovely dining room and was okay at $9.95 per person, but we typically had breakfast in our room. A grocery store is within 1/2 block. Free internet was great and parking cost was only $18 a day. The halls had a little musty smell, but we didn't notice it in our very clean room. It was a little dated, but very comfortable and we would stay again.

great location in Montreal downtown

EK Travellers Sep 21, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Hotel is located very close to the centre of Montreal; staff was friendly but first gave us a room lower as described in the ... booking (we were 3 people and needed 2 separate rooms for sleeping). But after short discussion we received exactly what we had booked. Room was great (also view, 2 toilets!), sofa-bed not so comfortable. We also had breakfast in the hotel (9.95CAD) and this covered altogether very well our expectations. We spent great days in Montreal!!!

Not well located

CalKen Sep 2, 2009

Calling the location of this hotel "downtown Montreal" is a huge stretch bordering on a lie. Really in the Atwater area. ... Drive or expensive taxi ride to downtown or Old Montreal. The few blocks around the hotel are seedy although not dangerous. No bell-hops; do-it-yourself for your bags. The "business center" consists of one PC in a small room; expect a long wait. The room was huge, almost a mini-suite.

Very friendly staff, rooms were clean and big, had a great view of downtown montreal. Its a bit of a walk from the hotel to ... the center of downtown, maybe 10 to 15 mins, but we didn't mind at all. They let us park 2 cars for one room with no problems. All we really did was sleep here, so didnt spend too much time in the room, but it certainly exceeded our needs. Would recommend and would stay here again.

Excellent value large rooms great locale

Counting Hedons Aug 31, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This is a great hotel that offers very large rooms at incredibly affordable rates. The location is also very good being ... right off of Rue St. Catherine. Driving up from the Boston, the hotel was easily locatable a few miles off the main highway. The staff was very nice and the rooms were clean. Parking was under $20 a days with direct elevator access from the underground lot. This was our first time in Montreal and we had a wonderful time and absolutely loved the city. The location put us right by some of the most lively areas in the city. We ended up spending most of our time in the Vieux Montreal so someone who knows that is what they're interested in might want to look for a place closer to that area (though it will probably be a noticeable premium), although the Guy Concordia Metro is only about 2 short blocks from the hotel and gives you easy access to anywhere you'd want to be in the city. However, for someone more interested in night life, this hotel couldn't be beat. If you there for a romantic occasion, be sure to take advantage of the champagne upon arrival. It really sets a nice tone for the stay and helps to relax, especially if you happen to be driving a while from New England or Western Canada.

The Europea restaurant is about 5 blocks away and we enjoyed dinner there our first night in town. The staff was very accommodating given that we were walk ins and Chef [...] kept sending us intermezzos/amuse bouches, all of which were very interesting. Every table also received a breakfast loaf to take home. The price is on the high side, but over all well worth the experience. The second evening we ate at Modavie which is supposedly an italian restaurant (don't expect spaghetti and pizza) that serves excellent lamb and has live jazz after 7:30 every evening. I went with the l' agneau a la Grecque, while my wife had the portafiglio with crab and lobster(???). Each was outstanding and [...] our server was exceptional.

Excellent location, downtown but not too congested. The room and the ambiance was tasteful, but not overdone. Parking was ... apparently supposed to be charged seperately, and wasn't supposed to be free as advirtised. They allowed it in our case. However, even at the $20 per day for parking, this hotel is still a good deal at the Orbitz discount rate.

This hotel is located right in the heart of the downtown district. It is walking distance from terrific shopping and easy ... access to the Metro. We had a car and parked in the hotel parking - it was included in our rate. The staff was terrific-helpful in every way. This hotel is a sleeper-our room would have cost 3 times the price in NY or Chicago. We would definitely return.

The Hotel du Forte was chosen based on price; unbeatable for a nice, quiet, clean, well located place. I was in a king ... superior suite; had a sleeper sofa & kitchenette(good size fridge, microwave, bar sink & some utensils. The front desk can provide you with place settings.bring your own corkscrew). Located across the street is a great and reasonable ($) supermarket and down the road from fodor rated Le Paris resturant (good). Long walk to the old city but right on the main thoroughfare (st.catherine) so its not long before your in the heart of montreal & the underground city(approx. 3 blocks).

Money savers hint, Short Walk

Since we had a kitchette, we took advantage of a grocery store within 1/2 block to get food for breakfast.

Shopping hint, Short Walk

Montreal is a shopping paradise!!!! And because it is very 'french' you can expect much ;-) on every day (because lots of shopping possibilities inside). BUT - do not expect to much from harbourfront after labour day, almost everything was closed (esp. tour d'horloge)...

Miso on Atwater and St. Catherine (about 2 blocks away) has great sushi at a decent price.

Shopping hint, Long Walk

Relatively close to Montreal's "underground city", that is Place ville Marie, Place Bonaventure etc.

Dining hint, Long Walk

Shopping hint, Short Walk

There is an indoor mall hidden in the heart of the downtown. There is access to the mall through the ground level stores (St. Catherine's and Peel streets).

Dining hint, Short Walk

Many small AFFORDABLE resturants (all ethnicities) that are open late. Warning:second cup is worse than Starbucks and costs the same!

Sorry, we cannot perform that search at this time. Either the pick-up or drop-off location needs to be an airport.
