Another great Dreams experience
Gizzy Nov 3, 2009
We stayed at Dreams Puerto Aventuras for 6 days and 5 nights. We did not participate in excursions, we mostly hung around ... the beach and pool areas. Last year we went to a Dreams in the Dominican Republic and loved the staff and cleanliness of the resort. Dreams PA was no different. The staff consistently tells you that it's their pleasure to do whatever you ask. No one seemed to linger for tips (except the Gray Line transportation guy) or expect anything for completing our requests. The rooms are cleaned atleast once a day and typically twice. I was a little disappointed that there was no tub in our room because I like to take baths but the shower was clean and the toiletries are very nice. We could have used a couple more drawers but made do with the closet. The food at Dreams is good, not great. However they do generally get special requests correct and room service is always another option. I was very excited for the Gohan sushi bar. It didn't really satisfy my sushi craving-- everything tasted pretty similar and the menu included no other appetizers or entrees, just a selection of about 10 sushi rolls. That was slightly disappointing. Our favorite restaurant was probably Portofino but lunches by the pool were the way to go. They were always cooking something delicious from burgers and dogs, to chorizo and chicken on the grill. They even had an additional entree on a separate grill such as paella, seafood pasta or fried rice cooked right on the beach. We also enjoyed the activities. There was beach volleyball every day as well as snorkeling and kayaking tours most days. The staff also did stretching and water aerobics which looked fun but we did not participate. It's nice to have the option of doing the activities with an enthused entertainment staff. We did go on the bike tour at 9am one morning. That was great. After we knew our way around, we walked back to see the nearby dolphins and sea lions. Being at Dreams on Halloween was another pleasant experience. They had a "mayan sacrifice" with professional dancers and amazing costumes. They even offered pumpkin carving and had the entertainment staff dress up. They were great! Dreams isn't perfect but it's a great place to relax no matter what your destination may be. For me, the cleanliness and service make up for the mediocre food. Our Dominican experience had it's own positives (pool) and negatives (no town to walk to) just like this resort did. My next trip might be to an adult only Secrets resort to see how that measures up!

Since upgrading from a Sunscape resort to a Dreams resort the rooms have vastly improved. I first stayed here 2 years ago ... and the rooms were terrible. The service was excellent then and still is. The only bad experience we had while there was one night at the Seaside Grill the service was bad. Every other restaurant we visited the service was top class. Special thanks to[...]who made my birthday memorable and went out of his way to remember our names and make the rest our stay excellent. I wish I could have tipped more. The only other downside was our checkout. We requested a porter in advance to help us with our luggage(at 4 a.m.), but no one showed up. And my sister in another room did not receive her wakeup call the morning of our departure.

Don't trust the wake up call service here. Twice during the week we didn't receive the calls.

Rooms with 2 double beds have a tub with only half a glass door (by design), but when you take a shower it floods all the ... bathroom. Very messy. Could have done a "Dreams" excursion into playa del carmen to go to Coco Bungo or something like that which was available in Puerto Vallata. Food was good in most places. Service was either excellent or not good. Mostly excellent.

Honeymooners Oct 26, 2009
We went here for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. The service was amazing. The hotel was only at 40% which could have ... impacted the great service we received. The food was fabulous. I only had one chewy steak the entire time. Due to being at low capacity 1 restaurant was always closed during dinner. The only other disappointment was that the sushi bar was closed for construction. While there we went scuba diving, shopped, and swam with the dolphins at the nearby marina. We would also recommend Gringo Dave's for steak and lobster (walking distance). We will return in the future!

Very nice hotel...just remember it is a FAMILY resort. There are kids around. I had a family next to me who woke me up ... every day at 6 a.m. :( Also staff acted like they didnt know how to exchange american money for pesos and ripped us off. Always try to get them to give you american money back when possible. Oh and the buffet food was not very good...but if I can put those things aside I would say it is a beautiful hotel in an excellent location. We were there for a wedding and it was a perfect wedding day!!!

There were a few people complaining about this hotel in the reviews but I just don't know why. Most of our meals on our 6 ... days there were great, the service was top notch, and our room and the reast of the facilites were great. No need to go anywhere else snorkling either...great at the hotel. Although Xelha was wonderful! If you have a rental car..go to Tulum and purchase your Xelha tickets there, 10-20% off. Can't wait to go back next year, probably take the kids next time because we overheard some kids that were staying there ranting and raving about the explorers club.

We scuba dived, ziplined, snorkeled which were all very enjoyable and professionally done. We did a Coba tour which could have ... been better but it had nothing to do with the hotel it was booked seperately. This trip was excellent and we wouldnt have changed a thing it is very worth the money. It was definitely worth the money. I would suggest at least a seven day stay to get the whole experience.

I went down for a friend's wedding & the resort was beautiful! It was really nice that it was smaller than other places, so ... the people that went down for the wedding could find one another easily, but you never felt crowded. There were plenty of restaurants to choose from & there was an adults only pool if you want some quite time. The employees were wonderful & funny. Overall, it was a great trip & I would recommend this resort!

We went to this resort for my daughters wedding, there was a total of 21 of us. We all had an awesome time! The staff was ... very friendly and helpful! The food was delicious and it was even better that there were no bracelets and you could go to any resturant at the resort as many times as you want! The rooms were great with very nice amenities and updates, the view we had from our room was incredible!! The wedding and reception was perfect, the food was fabulous as well as the wait staff and musicians. There were plenty of activities for both adults and children to keep everyone occupied. You wouldn't even have to leave the resort if you didn't want to. I would recommend this resort and any in this chain! We can't wait till we can go again!!

This hotel was super clean and had great food! I didn't get a bad steak all week. They cut like butter! Everything else was ... superb. The service, the cleanliness, the location. Just a great place to relax and worry about nothing. I usually could find something that just did not appeal to me about a resort, but this one I couldn't and the price was right too.

Fight for what you paid for.......
T & S Aug 11, 2009
Dreams P.A. is a good place to stay as long as you are content staying in and around the resort. If you like to go off & take ... in some of the local happenings, you have to take a car/taxi for a minimum 30 minute ride ($14.00 USD, RT per person). You really can't walk out of the resort area and get anywhere. There are shops in Puerto Aventuras but they are strickly tourist shops! Dreams P.A. was really nice. But, when we checked in, we were told they had upgraded us. We ended up in a room right above the family pool! Very Noisey! When we told them we didn't not want the 'upgraded room' we were told there was nothing else available. After several minutes of telling them it was not acceptable (arguing), they magically came up with the room type we had reserved! We heard this same senario from several other people while we were there. Seems to be the norm for Dreams. So if you go, stick to your guns and you will get what you paid for! The rooms are nice, the service is GREAT! Even the food is good, not as repetitive as a lot of other all-inclusives. The adult pool was a fun place to hang out, sign up for the bike ride with [...] and take a snorkel mask with you!

Dreams Honeymoon
Honeymooners Aug 9, 2009
The staff have to be the friendliest, most helpful, happiest I've ever seen. You can tell they take pride in what they do and ... make make it a priority to ensure your stay is excellent. We were on our honeymoon, so we splurged and got a "Preferred" room. It was well worth it. Our floor had its own personal bar and bartender, who was a great guy who we ended up spending a few hours with at the end of every night. For couples, the only watchout is that this is not an adults-only hotel. We didn't mind, but we did hear other honeymooners complain about all the kids. The perfect thing is that there's an adults-only pool, so you can easily get away from the little guys. There's a great bar right on the water called BARacuda with an amazing view and more friendly staff. The buffet restaurant had so-so food if you wanted something quick, but the ala cart restaurants were very good -- especially Oceana (if you're lucky you'll get Raul as your waiter). We stayed at this hotel when it was Sunscape about two years ago. We loved it then, but now that it's a Dreams, it's a thousand times better. It was a great trip...we highly recommend!
Traveler type: Couples
If you don't feel like paying the $100 to go on a snorkeling excursion, bring your own gear (or borrow it from the hotel). The beach has a decent reef for being right off the hotel. We saw baby barracudas and many other beautiful fish without ever leaving the resort!

The rooms at the resort had very comfortable beds for a good night sleep. They had a lot of rooms with a great view of the ... ocean. Most of the staff is very helpful and did their best to accommodate you. The problem was the food was far less than adequate. We ate at all the restaurants and none of them tasted good. My wife and I are not picky eaters but this was the worst food we have had on our vacations. It probably did not help that on Monday we ate chicken at El Patio and both came down with food poisoning. We were left to have stay close to our room for the rest of our vacation because we did not know when we were going to need the restroom, which we were sick until we left on Saturday. Another plus was they did have good snorkeling in front of the resort. The beach area itself was small and the beach only went in front of 3 resorts and then turned into a rocky area. That was a disappointment for us because my wife and I like to go for longer walks on the beach. I would have to say we will no longer stay with Dreams or Secrets based on our second experience with them because all the restaurants are the same at all locations.

Great Family Spot..Would go back again!
MrsF Aug 3, 2009
This was a great hotel spot in a growing area. It beats the Cancun area because of the more secluded location. We rented a ... car and drove the hour and a half from the airport. Great place for a family lots of activities that are included to keep things fun. We have stayed in a couple of all inclusives and the food here was good compared to other resorts so that was a pleasant surprise. The staff was super helpful and nice. We had an awesome time. The only negative I have is if you want a more quiet room I would try to stay away from the adult pool. They get pretty noisey and you can hear the whoops and hollars in the room. If you have small children, I would ask for a more quiet location.

We drove to Aku-Mal (sp?) which is about 10 miles south (could be an easy cab ride). We brought our own snorkel gear and to the Aku-mal Bay where you can swim with the sea turtles. It was a super cheap trip and easy to navigate. It would be over $50 per person to take an guided trip but this place is so simple to find we only paid a $3 parking fee.

We had a wonderful time going fishing at Capt. Rick's right down at the Marina. We could walk over there and after we caught our fish, Gringo Dave's cooked it 3 different ways for free. We just paid for veggies and rice. It was the highlight of our trip. We caught 2 sailfish, a skipjack tuna, a wahoo, and a barracuda. It was great!

The beach has a coral reef with many fish that like to be fed and they will come right up to you in the water so you can save time and money by snorkling for free at the resort.
