I reserved a non-smoking room and when I walked into my room I was greeted with an unpleasant and stale smoke odor. I called ... the front desk and they confirmed that I did reserve non-smoking. Unfortunately, they were booked solid and there was nothing they or I could do. No apology, no remedy, no discount. Nothing. No continental breakfast and overnight parking is $16 per night, which I did not know about. This place stinks! When I asked for a restaurant recommendation, I got Chili's. Are you kidding? Why would I drive to Richmond to eat at a restaurant that has 15,000 franchises all over America? Also, there is now a mysterious $100 charge to my credit card that I have to call them about... Don't stay here.

I was surprised that the pool was only seasonal and that I had to pay extra $16 per night for parking and only with valet ... service. I could not access my car anytime to pick something up from my trunk. This was very inconvenient! The heating in the room did not work. The management somehow missed the cold weather. It took three calls to the desk to convince them I was not just to stupid to put the thermostat up. There was no maid service during my stay.

Hadn't considered extra cost of parking garage and valet- with extra $16 daily rate plus tips with every pick up and delivery ... of car, our bill became much larger than planned.

Not consistent for Doubletree

I have very mixed feelings about this hotel. I had 2 instances at the hotel for which each time the hotel handled promptly ... and with smile. The air conditioner in the room rattled and the door security latch did not effectively secure the door. I did not report the slow flush and slow drain in the bathroom. I felt that housekeeping should have reported to maintenance the issues with the toilet and sink. Although the latch was fixed the door it still did not close flush. As a result I slept with a chair by the door.

The hotel is in a great location and decently priced but the carpets in all of the common areas were disgustingly dirty. They ... need to be replaced. The room was clean, but quite small - especially the bathroom - the room carpets need a good cleaning. The valet parking rate seemed high for the location.

Outside of the hotel looks average or worse. But inside is very nice. Our room had a couple of problems (missing a ... shower head and light in bathroom was out), but the hotel changed our room within minutes. All in all a very nice hotel. Nice location, a short drive from all of the downtown historic attractions.
