The hotel lobby was nice, but the rooms were only so-so. The entire floor reeked of cigarette smoke. We were put in a ... handicap accesible room, which didn't bother us, but the shower completely flooded the bathroom. I don't see how that can be safe for some who is handicapped, let alone someone who is not. When we let the front desk know about the flooding, they said they were aware, and with an attitude, said they would move us to another room. There were two empty water bottles left in the room from the previous occupants, which made us question how well the room itself was cleaned. The shower took over 10 minutes to get warm, let alone hot. The front desk did not seem like our complaints were valid or worth their time. The location was great, but parking was expensive.

Hotel was located right at the front entrance to Universal, so it seemed outstanding. The web site mentions multiple ... restaurants, a bar in the lobby, a bar by the pool, a Starbucks in the lobby and a free shuttle to Universal. Make sure before you book this hotel you check to make sure what is open this 'season'. We went end of Sept and it was in the upper 80's low 90's each day. The restaurants were only open at certain times. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and nothing was open. The bar in the lobby didn't open until later, the Starbucks had closed for the day, there wasn't anyplace obvious to eat or grab a cocktail. The shuttle only runs 3 times in the morning to the park and 3 times later in the day returning from the park and you need to give them 24 hrs notice. We wanted to go to City Walk to have dinner and we had to take a cab there and back. While the website was totally accurate and the hotel staff were very friendly, I'd never stay here again, or at least make sure I called first and asked what is and isn't open this 'season'. I keep emphasizing season because when I got upset at how dirty the pool was, the pool bar not being open at 3pm when we went for a swim, we were told it was a seasonal thing and they reduce staff. I'm okay with any business adjusting hours based on seasons, but think that should be very clear in their website add.

Close to Universal entrance, to far to walk, so make sure you have the shuttle reserved for when you want to go and come back.

Not as good as expected
Larry of Ft. Lauderdale Aug 26, 2009
Pillows on the bed were dirty. ..smeared with red lipstick or nail polish or something else. Electronic key system ... unreliable as I've ever encountered. Same system used for the self park...poor and unreliable. Paid Orbitz $8 more per night than the Monday-Tuesday rack rate of $69 per night.

Will never stay here again. Had to call desk/door for assist in raising parking lot exit bar every time out. First ... explantion "computer is down", then "sorry, we have a new crew at the door". Crowning glory was addition to bill of "self parking charge - $12.00 per day + tax".

Easy, Convenient, Great Location
Andrew Aug 12, 2009
I was in Orlando for one night while traveling on business. The location of this hotel is great because it is right off I-4, ... only 1 exit west of the Turnpike. It is literally right across the street from Universal Studios, a 5 minute drive to International Drive, and only 15 minutes from Disney World. There are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance, just past the parking lot. Speaking of parking, there is plenty of it. I highly recommend this hotel for personal and business travel, with or without kids.

Everything costs Extra!!!!!!!!
Good Time Fun Chaser Aug 10, 2009
The location is great. I don't like all of the extra charges for outside self parking, room safe, internet access, as well as ... the promise of shuttle service to the gate at Universal. Pretty soon they are going to charge extra for towels and showers. By the time you add in all of the A-la-carte things, you would have been better off at one of the other hotels that don't charge for everything.

Double Tree Parking Dilema
Neil Aug 4, 2009
We did not spend a lot of time at hotel since we were more interested in seeing the Universal Parks, we also went to Sea ... World. I thought the $12.00 charge per night for parking was outrageous considering we were a staying guest. Also the parking situation was the most non user friendly thing I believe I've ever seen. The cards would deactivate and you wouldn't know it til you arrived at the gate, then the people behind would get upset because you can't get the gate up, then you would have to either go inside get card activated again, or hopefully someone in line would be empathetic, and get out and swipe theirs to get gate open. You'll still have to go in so when you return it will work. It was a complete $12.00 a day nightmare. When we arrived the room was a non smoking room, but someone previously had smoked in it and the smell was just horrible. After the first night I requested everything be changed in room to reduce odor.

Good Hotel with hidden parking charge
No where to park. Jul 15, 2009
I had to park in front of the "No Parking" sign before check in because all the parking lots are gated and you can get in ... unless you have a guest card. Good clean room. I did not know they were charging $12 for parking untill I got there. $12 for parking in Florida, that is crazy. They were having a staff meeting when I was ready to check-out, 8 in the morning, when everyone who is on a business trip is checking out.

City Walk at Universal is great spot with great places to eat, drink and people watch, with Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville my favourite for good food and drink and a free floorshow ( not Vegas but still entertaining ) it's a bit longer than the short walk you are told from Doubletree so take the town car for 4/5 dollars
