Doubletree was grand!
DEYellow Nov 10, 2009
The hotel experience was great~ the rooms were clean and roomy enough. We had a small balcony with seating for 2. The ... restaurant on the main floor was very nice, and we enjoyed breakfast there twice. The price was average for hotel dining. There was a pool, jacuzzi, and an outdoor bar area, which were all nice. Shuttle was dependable, and ran consistently through most of the day. I was surprised that the hotel charged for on-site car parking - it was $10/day plus tax. That has never occurred in my travels before this trip.
Traveler type: Couples
Unless you want the experience of driving to the Keys, plan to fly into Key West International and use shuttle services. You can rent a bike or scooter, or use shuttles or taxis. Parking was difficult at best in town, and was very expensive. Taxi's were surprisingly reasonable (roughly $15 from Duval St. to hotel). It would not be feasible to walk from hotel to downtown Key West.

Never been to Key West so guessed about the hotel. Package price was good w/airline. Very friendly staff and food was good. ... Had to pay extra $10 for balcony but worth it. Close to beach and downtown. This was a great trip.

awsome vacacation
lisa Aug 27, 2009
We stayed 8/21- 8/26/09 and had an awsome time. The hotel is not right in the middle of the action of Duval street but in a ... quieter location. The hotel shuttle provides an excellent service-bringing you into town and back every hour. The staff is very friendly and give you facts about the island (most of them have lived there for some time). The consearge desk staff helped us find the best charter boat to check out the dolphins and snorkle (this was the highlight of our trip). The pool area was kept very clean. The rooms were not huge but we were not in our hotel room very much, they had the neccesary things. The hotel resturant was not very good... high prices and below average food.
Traveler type: Couples
In town on the pier but our shuttle brought us right to the door!!! Turtle Kraals has excellent food- had the ribs and they were excellent!! Also their key lime pie was very good (I think they use a little Tequila)

What a joke
Upset fiancee Aug 4, 2009
This place is a joke, don't let the tag of "resort" fool you. This is a glorified motel six. The pool is the only thing that ... is nice about this place. We booked through orbitz and asked for a nonsmoking room, and we paid extra for a balcony and requested a view of the pool. When we arrived, we were told the hotel was full, and we had no room. But they would look for one. No problem, it is key west, plenty to do.. so we came back later. They only had a smoking room, but promised to give me a new room the next day. We ended up in a room that smelled like an ash tray with a balcony view of the parking lot. No problem if i am visiting or on vacation. But we came down to get married. So I had to deal with a fiancee that was very upset. The room is very small and the little couch has stains all over it. Some looking very much like "romantic discharges." The next day they didn't give me a new room as promised so I had to ask them about it. They looked around on the computer and they gave me new keys... to the same room.... more discussions lead to a new room. So after moving and dealing with this for an hour I almost miss my boat cruise and I end up with a small room with another stained couch. Plus, you can't watch tv and walk around the room because you have to open up a cabinet to see the tv and that leaves no room between the bed and tv. When I check out, I find out they charged me ten dollars to park there... where else was I supposed to park???? This place is a joke. Never once did they apologize or make me feel like a customer. They were polite, but not considerate or apologetic.

It was our first vacation with our daughter who is 7 months old and we were concerned about the hotel stay, cleanliness ... etc.The hotel was very clean, they had the crib ready for the baby when we checked in.The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had to call room-service few times for hot water to prepare milk for the little one and they were very happy to assist us.The front desk staff were so friendly and even let us do a late check-out.We ordered room-service and the food was good and reasonably priced. It is just minutes away from the airport and down town. The hotel has a shuttle every hour to down town which is very helpful.I would highly recommend this place to all visiting Key West.

The Doubletree Delivers!
Thrifty Adventurers Jul 6, 2009
The Doubletree met and exceeded our expectations. It is far enough from Duvall Street that it was restful and relaxing but ... close enough to reach anything you needed within 5 minutes or less. The room was spacious for our party of 4 adults and very clean. The hotel definitely gives you the Key West feel- it is tastefully decorated. The pool area was very nice. There was a live steel drum band over the weekend playing poolside. A nice selection of food and drinks were offered poolside. The concierge was extremely helpful and knowledgeable in helping us plan an excursion for boating and snorkeling. She acted more as a friend than a salesperson. The waitstaff in the restaurant were very friendly as were the shuttle drivers. We will be back to Key West again and we will definitely stay at the Doubletree!
Traveler type: Friends
The hotel shuttle service is invaluable. The shuttle ran every hour and had two drop off points that put you close to the action on Duvall Street and near the attractions. The drivers were knowledgeable and friendly. This way you don't have to hassle with parking.

Staff and facility were great. Especially the pool steel drum player. Party animals till 2:00am both night but it is Key ... West. Very disappointed with Orbitz .com Advertised free breakfeast but did not book with hotel. Doubletree honored promotion anyway. Pay $10 extra per night for a 3' wide balcony facing the parking lott. Pool balconies are much bigger. I wish Orbitz would have specified.

We usually stay downtown Key West, so this was somewhat inconvenient to get back and forth freely. The shuttles that are ... provided run every hour and sometimes were full and we had to wait for a back up.(Which didn't take too long however) I think if they ran every 1/2 hour it would be an improvement but it still is a 1/2 hour ride round trip to town and back. Otherwise, the hotel was a great place to stay, more spacious than the ones in town. I would recomend this hotel with the limitations of getting around to town however.

I had a very nice time staying at the Dooubletree Grand Key Resort. The staff was friendly and courteous. The concierge was ... VERY helpful and made some great suggestions for day trips and activities. Take advantage of the shuttle service; it's a 20 minute ride to Old Town. The gym is small and somewhat cramped.
