Only about 15 minutes from San Juan airport, the 151-room Diamond Palace Hotel & Casino enjoys a great location in the Condado area of San Juan. A great value in this tourist enclave, the property is a short walk to the beach and many local restaurants, bars, and nightlife. Enjoy the convenience of nearby shopping, including a drugstore across the street, as well as new retail stores opening in the area. Rooms are standard and offer a great value; however, they feature original oil and watercolor paintings by Puerto Rican artist Orlando Santaella - more than 200 in all - adding a unique & local touch to every room. Whether you are traveling on business or for vacation, the Diamond Palace offers a great value and location.

Roaches Greeted Us!
time2play Nov 3, 2009
Nothing good has changed about this hotel since I stayed here a few years ago. I stay because its dirt cheap and near the ... night life. Thats the good side of things... The bad is that the bathroom had several dead roaches on the floor when I checked in, the floor in the bathroom had pee on it, the elevators were not working most of the time, the breakfast was worst than ever, the casino is shut down, the lobby stinks like mold and dead animals, the restaurant is overpriced and the balcony doors do not open. Now if you are lookin for a place that allows escort type guests back to the room and is in a great location then stay here... it's tolerable for a few days.

Perfect location
cruise traveler Oct 11, 2009
I visited this hotel 2 years ago to play in the casino, that's why I booked this year to stay in the hotel because of the ... casino and the location is perfect for shopping, restaurants, and 24 hour Walgreen. I was very disappointed when I arrived at the hotel, because the casino was closed, it was under renovation. The hotel isnt very clean, and there's roaches in the room. An overnight stay is okay, but I dont recommend staying in this hotel for more than 1 night. The elevator takes too long, and it seems like they dont really clean the room very well.

The hotel is old. We can't ask too much for the price we paid. It seems to be a problem with the water pipes. We asked for a ... change of room because the shower was broken, and we had a good night sleep. It needs some renovation. Staff was okay.

The elevator was tied up by the maid service in the morning causing us to wait for more than fifteen minutes and since it ... would take much longer it caused us to walk down the stairs to the lobby from the 11th floor. On two occasions the maid came into the room without knocking and on the last night they didn't leave any fresh towels in the bathroom.

Diamond Palace Hotel Review
Ruben Garcia Sep 8, 2009
Although the hotel was used as a place to sleep at night only, the breakfast crew was something less than ordinary and that ... we had to pay overnight parking. The parking aspect should be included in their description. The good thing about hotel that it was close to Old San Juan and the beach.

When in Puerto Rico, I suggest for anyone to go to El Yunque National Forest. The only rainforest in the U.S. It is very beautiful and the cascades are wonderful. It is quite a bit of walking to go the the main attraction, El Salto De La Mina, but it is worth it.

3 friends who like to travel Aug 31, 2009
We arrived about 2 hours before check in and asked if we could park in the attached garage and walk around the area. The ... staff was friendly and willing to let us check in early at no extra charge, but we were told the parking garage is not for hotel use (although the garage had the hotel name accross the entrance). We were told to park around the corner (half a block down, then half a block the other way), and did so. We told the parking attendant that we were staying in the the hotel and he told us to take a ticket and park (poor English). Once inside, our 1st room had a wet carpet under the air conditioner on one side of the bed. We called the front desk and someone was sent up quickly to take us to a 2nd room, but the air conditioner in this room did not work at all. We kept the 3rd room, but later realized there was mold growing on the wall and wall art (stayed anyway because we didn't expect to see a better room here). When we left the parking lot, the attendant charged us full price for every hour that we were there instead of a discounted hotel rate. We were later joined by a Puerto Rican friend who translated and found out we payed double what we should have, and was charged the correct amount each time afterwards (only because each different attendant had to be told by our friend). The casino was closed when we arrived, but we assumed it would open later in the afternoon. We found out that the casino was 'closed for work', but never found out anything else and it was never open while we were there. The staff was friendly enough, and the location was decent with several restaurants within a few blocks walk and the beach a block away. But due to the poor condition, lack of casino and off site paid parking, we would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The best restaurant in the area (Orozco's) was only a couple of blocks away, and several other decent restaurants were close by.

Unless the hotel gets a total remodel. I will not stay there again. The aircondition barely worked, Smelly Mildewy room, ... Found drugs on our night stand. Umongst other things found in the drawer. The staff was nice except at breakfast. This hotel has so much potential if a total remodel is done due to being in prime location. By the way the Casino is closed.

Never Again Aug 24, 2009
I have never seen such a disgusting hotel in all my travel days. I used to work front desk in this area and never dreamed it ... had come to this. Diamond Palace should be condemned and Orbit should have no further deals with them. It was a source of SHAME and disgust for me as I was traveling with my 3 girlfriends who had never been to P.R. This room was filthy and had roaches running everywhere. There where exposed wires from the hair dryer and the smoke detector. I did see 2 other rooms and they were way worse. Elevator stuck 1 ft higher than the floor, no lights in the stairway ( we were on the 8th floor), no safety bar on door, the balcony had black fungus. I called Orbit that night and we checked out the next morning. No one sleept a wink. This place is not fit to be rented out to anyone. I have taken pictures of all these things and will make them available. Truly a shame that people have to see and deal with this type of hotels on their vacations. I will follow up with a couple of agencies hoping this doesn't happen to anyone else.

The Rooms are a good size, but the bed was caved in and was very uncomfortable. I woke up in the morning with a backace. I ... wanted to leave after the first night but we were not there for vacation. we were there to be able to go see a family member that is in the hospital nearby. The Casino is not open, its closed for repair for a couple months. There is no free parking. Very difficult to find parking in the area. All I really needed was a good bed to sleep on.

Do more walking away from the Condado area and dine at local restaruants. It is cheaper and tastier. More authentic in a sense. The tourist areas spots are much pricier. Watch the double tipping. Most rest. charge you gratuity right off teh bat, but when you receive your charge slip there is another area for tipping. You've probably already been charged.
