DesertRose is truly a rose in the desert
The Happy Traveler Nov 17, 2009
The Desert Rose Resort was a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. The staff was very cheerful, attentive, friendly, ... helpful, and competent. I cannot say enough of how welcome they made me feel. I was in Vegas with friends to attend shows and see all of the sights of the city. Found that there is much walking involved in that! The suites at this resort were very comfortable and especially clean, so, after a long day of walking, it was a great place to unwind. The continental breakfast was as good as offerings at other hotels where I have stayed. They also have an afternoon reception a few days of the week. Another way to relax. This resort needs to be very proud of their staff, as they make The Desert Rose such a nice place to stay.

Put on your walking shoes! While The Desert Rose is just off of the strip, EVERYTHING in Vegas is a loooong walk! Carry a bottle of water along with you to avoid high priced water, although, there are a couple of drug stores located right on the strip where you can purchase water and snacks at a reasonable price. Check on-line for coupons and discounts for shows and purchase tickets on-line for the best deals. Not worth the time stopping at the tics for less places.

Great Location
ElCajon Stephanie Nov 16, 2009
The Desert Rose was a very nice place to stay. They are literally a short block from the MGM. The property was clean, and ... attractive, although for a gated "community" (I think this resort is a time share), we got a lot of flyers for food delivery services stuffed under our door. The staff was friendly, but at check in they stumbled over what step to take next, and almost forgot to give me a parking permit. Then at check out they tried to tell me I had a room that required payment at check out even though it was prepaid. I'm watching my account in case they try to bill me for the "balance due" they claimed I had. Overall, my husband and I would stay here again because the location was awesome, the room was like a home away from home (1 bedroom suite), and although the staff wasn't perfect, and other guests let in delivery drivers, I have no real complaints about it.

Dan Marino's Restaurant located in the casino next door has very good food. The service is a bit slow, but very nice, and the food made it worth the wait. I ordered the prime rib dip, and got an actual chunk of prime rib on a ciabatta roll, very nice, and well priced!

Your own apartment in Las Vegas
JTHonolulu Nov 14, 2009
We love the Desert Rose and stay there often when in Vegas. It is an older resort (apartment complex) that has all that you ... could want while away from home. The only complaint we had was that room 2307 on 3rd level was directly under the air unit on roof and it was noisy so we asked to be relocated and moved the next day. Ask to stay on first or second floor if you stay here (ahead of time) at least by a month or so. While in Vegas we saw a Cirque show and Santana the Hotel is right behind Tropicana so we walked to the other hotels- MGM, NyNY, Excaliber. We also had a rental car to go pick up groceries Whole Foods . The full kitchen is really nice .

Driving & Construction... OMG... they are putting in new sewers right now and the city sure smell like it. Every road is tore up, the GPS unit went crazy... and you sure don't wish to walk up and down the strip, the smell is nauseating. Renting a car is a joke unless you plan day trips. Right now, with all the construction, driving is a joke. Cones of Death everywhere!!! We went to Fire Canyon just 1 hour west of LV and it was fantastic. The road backs takes you to the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. I HIGHLY recommend doing that (take lunch with you, there are roadside BBQ'S in the park

We went to Ellis Island for dinner in spite of reading mixed reviews. The food was above average - the $6.99 steak-dinner-special (not mentioned on the menu) was excellent value for money and really well executed. $1.50 brews are also great. Check it out.

WE BOOKED THE HOTEL ON LINE AND IT'S THE BEST VALUE WE'VE EXPERIENCED IN OUR SEVERAL TRIPS TO LAS VEGAS. WE SPENT TIME WITH ... FRIENDS AND HAD THEM OVER TO OUR ROOM. WE WOULD NOT HESITATE TO STAY AT THE DESERT ROSE ON OUR NEXT VISIT--WISH WE'D HAD MORE TIME FOR THIS STAY SINCE WE ENJOYED OUR ROOM AND THE STAFF.

This is a great hotel for families, don't have to worry about walking through a smoke filled casino to get to your room! Taking everything into consideration, that is price , accommodation and hotel amenities, the only things letting this resort ... down are the small pool and the bland continental breakfasts. The breakfasts are adequate but lack variety especially when you are resident for more than a few days. We had a very good trip and I would certainly book this resort again. I should add that I found the staff more than helpful . That is all the staff from our room maid to the reception staff.

This was our second stay at the Desert Rose. We love it! Great location to the strip without the hassle of parking garages, ... walking for miles to get to your room, too many people, long lines. You get my point. Breakfast is great when you're able to get up in time for it. :o) Having a full kitchen saves on eating out all the time. The water pressure is great and you'll never run out of hot. We had a great time!

Monorail, monorail, monorail. Vegas' best kept secret IF you have easy, close access to it. We tried it before and it wasn't very helpful because we were staying downtown and had to bus to get to it. However, if you're staying on or near the strip (or at Desert Rose) take advantage of it. Walking the strip just wears you down because everything looks closer than actually ever is and the Deuce is painfully slow since so many people get on and off every half block that it feels like forever to get from one end to the other. Monorail! Get a 1 day ($13 for 24 hours) or 3 day ($28 for 72 hours) pass.

Use the monorail in Vegas. You can get to all the main sites, and the cost is very little especially if you get the all day pass. Cars are air conditioned and comfortable. Cabs are very expensive.
