Location was terrific. Hotel is just - I guess what you get for $150...??? Horrible. Diminished my visit to Charelston. ... The carpet was so gross I wouldn't walk on it barefoot or without my flip flops. Staff was very friendly. Place just needs a serious overhaul. Restaurant downstairs had quite possibly the worst coffee I have ever paid for! Take my word - stay one less night, pay a little more money - don't stay here!! They were paving the parking lot in the morning on the WEEKEND! Do you know what kind of sound that makes??? Not one you can sleep though - or even sit in your room and endure!!!

This is an aging motel in a great location. We were there for four days and never moved our car from their free lot. The ... rooms are appealing but small. They lack electrical outlets and in bad shape. I never could find their wireless connection but used another hotels without problem. Just slow.

Met our needs
Midwest wanderer Oct 29, 2009
The hotel was in an excellent location and that was our primary focus. I felt the staff was OK at best, seemed disinterested ... in us and our enjoyment of the city. The rooms were small and not very clean, but the price was right and they had irons, boards, hair dryers, wi-fi so it was fine. The Toast restaurant was fine for breakfast. All in all, I would stay there again because it was essential that we be in a good location in the historic district.

Nineteen Sixties Revisited
Spanky Oct 24, 2009
Location is great for seeing downtown Charleston, near to shopping. One parking lot was being repaved while we were thee so ... parking was somewhat haphazard. Our first visit to this Days Inn was 40 years ago, and it had not changed too much. Still clean, still relatively small, and the desk clerk, the one person with whom we came in contact, was freindly and helpful.

Could not have asked for a better location. Convenient to all the shopping, restaurants, entertainment, etc. Everything is ... within walking distance. The only complaints we had were the bathroom and barking dogs. 1st the bathroom: couldn't regulate the water temp whilte taking a shower; one minute freezing cold, the next scalding hot. At first I thougt my spouse was pulling a joke on me but he wasn't even using the water. Then it was his turn to take a shower and the same thing happended to him. Barking dogs: we had 2 dogs in the next room that barked constantly at night. Wasn't aware that this was a pet friendly hotel, didn't say it at all on the website!!!!!

Wanderer Oct 11, 2009
I was warned that hotels and parking were expensive in downtown Charleston, so this hotel was comparatively reasonable. Our ... room had all amenities (microwave, fridge, coffeemaker) but it was so crowded, each appliance was stacked on top of each other. A huge slice in the wallpaper, loose step-guards on the stairs and dirty stair-rails were detractors. Bed and recliner were comfy. The great feature was its perfect location by many popular tourist spots. You could walk or ride a trolley everywhere. While the hotel room was not as big and clean as we would've wished, it was fine for the price. I read other reviews about the unfriendly desk staff. The two times I talked to the reservation agent by phone, she was not nice. But when I checked in, the office clerks and maids were courteous and helpful.

Before you get to Charleston, think of which attractions and tours you want. There are many ways to tour (walk, horse carriage, boat, bus) and many companies offering similar tours. Go to the official Visitor Center on Meeting and Ann Streets. It's worth the time to plan ahead and discuss what you want with the clerk so you won't be at the mercy of the endless street vendors trying to sell you tour tickets. Driving is not enjoyable due to the narrow roads, horse carriage tours, crowds of walking tour groups, one-way streets, parallel parking and expensive parking. Plan to walk or ride the trolley.

Charleston Vacation

The stay was enjoyable, the room was small but not unbarable. The noise from the construction across the street was not ... noticible, we stayed at the back next to the pool area there was no noise from other guests. The room was clean and very nice. Dining at the resturant on site was fantastic, the service was excellent, and the people were very helpful in our touring of Charleston. You can stay anywhere in Charleston for more money but why. The location is the best I have ever seen. The hotel staff were very helpful in all matters.

Take the carriage tours you can get better pictures than on the Grey line tours, I highly reccomend the walking Ghost Tours. Dinning in Charleston is an experiance depending on your taset. Check with the locals as to the best for the price and food selection. Don't overlook the little overlooked and less traveled places to dine and shop.

Good location but old and dirty. We were in an outside room overlooking the street and it was very noisy also. Was nice to ... stay in downtown but I would stay at a better hotel further out in the future because traffic into downtown was not nearly as bad as we thought it might be.

Great location for the price. We travel to Charleston and have stayed in 2 to 5 star places and the Days Inn downtown was ... great for the location. We spent most of our time walking around the city so when we were at the hotel we just needed a clean and quite place to sleep and we found it.

The room was clean and the hotel in a great location. Parking provided by the Hotel. If Hotel lot was full, hotel paid for ... parking in other lots. Hotel front desk staff not particularly friendly, but not mean either. The only problems with the room was a smell, almost like the room had flooded and not properly dried. It was a mildew/mold type smell. Also, the mini fridge was freezing everything that was put in there, but it really was not that much of a problem. Only for the location would I recommend this hotel.
Traveler type: Couples
I recommend just leaving your car in the parking lot and just walking around Downtown Charleston. Many beautiful homes and parks to discover. I was not overly impressed with the food we received while on vacation, but may not have gone to the right places. Our next visit should prove to be better informed. Also recommend not going in the heat of summer. The downtown area tends to smell like urine.
