The Da Vinci is NOT a superstar hotel, you do not feel like a million bucks when you walk in, the shampoos are NOT name ... brand, and words like minimalist modern or chic do not apply. If those things are important, and I totally understand that they often can be, this may not be the hotel for you. If, however, you're on a budget and in a city like NY just need a clean bed, shower, and high speed internet it's perfect! It was clean, friendly, and very easy. The location cannot be beat! Bathrooms were just redone in all marble and quite lovely. It was perfect for my brief stay in which what was outside the hotel was so much more important than what was in it!

The hotel had at least 4 large steps to enter the only entrance to the hotel. The rooms were so small (and we saw two on ... different floors) that a wheelchair and a rolater could not enter the room (anyone with large luggage would have a terrible time entering and staying in their rooms). One of us had to squeeze in and move some furniture around (including putting a desk chair on a bed) in order to gain enough inches to push the wheelchair and rolater in. We had to keep the wheelchair and rolater in front of the door, blocking our exit, while we were in the room because there was no room to move around in. Fortunately, there were two men attendants that were able to carry the wheelchair and rolater up the stairs and help me and my companion into the hotel. I and my companion in the wheelchair were very dissatisfied with the size of the room and the inability to go to the its restaurant (that offered a 15% reduction for hotel patrons) because it was not accessible either. I would not stay in this hotel again just because it was not fair and open about its conditions.

DaVinci Hotel was a delight to eye and the pocketbook. Conveniently located on the corner from Carnegie Hall, The Late Show ... and wonderful restaurants, it made a wonderful impression. We plan on staying there again when we return to NYC. This hotel is for travelers who will be busy with the many sights and sounds of NYC. The bathrooms are impressive and the rooms are well cared for by the staff. EAch day after we returned from our busy schedule, it was wonderful to find our cozy hotel waiting for us.

Great Bargain for NYC
Anonymous Aug 29, 2008
The room was what we expected - nothing fancy, but clean and very affordable. Just room for a bed, a TV stand, and a couple ... of dressers. The Italian restaurant and lounge downstairs is exceptional. Excellent wine list, complimentary pizza for patrons at the bar, experienced bartenders, and a solid Italian food menu with the best Italian food I've ever had. We will stay there again. The neighborhood is safe and within walking distance of Broadway shows - no need for a taxi.

Basic but Cheap!
Cathleen, Dublin, OH Aug 5, 2008
The DaVinci Hotel is a tiny boutique hotel located just outside of Times Square. The location was great for site-seeing as we ... were very close to subway stops and bus stops. The rooms are small (as should be expected for the low price!) and basic. It needed a fresh coat of paint but it was livable. My only real complaints are that there was a roach on the stairs in the front lobby (probably to be expected in NYC) and that our room had some issues with hot water. The sink always had hot water but the shower fluctuated between cool and luke-warm. Not pleasant after a long day of walking and site-seeing! If I could be guaranteed that the water would be temperature appropriate, I would stay here again because of the price and location.

Excellent Location
Cynthia, Washington, DC Apr 19, 2008
This hotel is in the perfect location. We walked to Broadway shows/Times Square, the Today Show/Rockefellar Center, Central ... Park/Zoo, 5th Avenue/Disney store, bus stop, 2 different subway stops for different lines, and Carnegie Hall. Breakfast was perfect: rolls, muffins, donuts and coffee, served in the small, but comfortable, lobby. Room was a bit small for 2 people and the window opened to a very dark space. But we weren't in our room very often. Bathroom was recently renovated with all new tiles, fixtures, lighting. Refridgerator in room! Staff was friendly and helpful. Reminded me of B&Bs of Europe.

We found Crown Deli and Sushi Bar on Broadway. It had just about everything. 2 of us ate there for $20 (3 times!). There are tables upstairs and one night we sat at a counter overlooking Broadway. Food included: buffet bar, deli sandwiches, yogurt/fruit station, deli, sushi, soup, wine, beer. It also sells snacks, medicines and toiletries.

Charming Hotel Near Theatre District
Anonymous, Seattle, WA Apr 6, 2008
Very charming. Our room had an old fireplace and lovely molding around the windows. The bathroom was a bit small but clean, ... updated, and elegant with floor to ceiling travertine tile. Everything was immaculate. The continental breakfast was adequate but not great. Our room was a little noisy as it faced the street, I would imagine that most of the rooms face the courtyard and are probably not as noisy.

My review of Da Vinci Hotel

Great location and good value for money. Some of the guests on our floor were very noisey, coming in at all hours and talking ... in loud voices in the hallways. Some sat on the floor outside their romm, smoking and joking at 4:00 am.

The DaVinci hotel was better then expected. It was clean and had a great location. When in NY City you do not spend a lot ... of time in your room so what I felt was most important was the location and cleanliness and this hotel was great with both.

Sufficient, comfy, and clean but no 5-star
Anonymous, Orange County, CA Aug 15, 2007
The staff was very pleasant to us, but we walked in on some employees arguing with each other at the check-in counter and ... they were very loud. They didn't stop right away when they saw us either. The room was rather plain and not a beauty, but it was comfortable and clean and all we needed. I would recommend this place because it was a good deal with a good location for us, and we were happy with it, but don't expect matching, beautiful decor or any extras.

small room, good service
steven Apr 29, 2007
Probably the first thing I noticed about the room was the small storage space available. My wife agreed to live out of her ... luggage. At first there appeared to be no hot water. Room service came to the rescue and explained that a valve near the floor in the bathroom had been shut down. When this valve was turned on, we had hot water. The workings of the heating, ventilation, and airconditioning systems were also explained. The bed was comfortable. The Da Vinci Hotel is in an excellent location, convenient to the Metropolitan opera as well as the theater district.

Great Place to Stay in New York
Kyle, Erie, PA Feb 27, 2007
I was just looking for a place to sleep with a great location. When we arrived at the hotel I was pleasantly surprised by ... the hotel's lobby and how nice it was. When we got into our room we found that the bathroom door had no handle on it. I went to the desk and the clerk personally walked upstairs with me to check it out and promptly stated that this simply would not do and immediately put us in a different room along with an upgrade. I was very impressed. This hotel is clean, but there is nothing too fancy about it aside from the lobby and the fabulous bathroom in every room. If you are looking for simply a clean place to stay reasonably in NYC you can't beat it. There is inexpensive parking right accross the street. The location is great it is right off Broadway you can pretty much see Times Square from teh corner. It is within walking distance of all that NYC has to offer in the Manhattan area. It is also very close to the Lincoln Tunnel so you dont have to drive too much through the city, which can be a hazard if your not used to it. Overall I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for an excellent and inexpensive hotel option in NYC.

There is a great Hookah Bar just a short walk away on East 60th street in the 300's. Very authentic, a little pricy but a great atmosphere and very friendly to westerns. Bring cash..the ATM in there is expensive to use.
