Filthy carpeting, unclean
Steve&Sue Sep 15, 2009
We came to Charleston to visit family. Was appalled at the condition of the carpet, but didn't complain. On Saturday ... morning we put a do not disturb sign on door when we went to breakfast. Took off sign by 10:30a. Our room was never cleaned. No one ever went back to check. When speaking with the check-in clerk at 3:30p to let him know it was never cleaned, he was very unfriendly and said that there was nothing he could do. Could not even provide us with fresh towels.

This hotel was in a great spot to visit the beach and Charleston. Our room had an odd smell, the carpet was really stained ... and always looked dirty and we didn't get our room serviced every day. It was an average hotel - not awesome but not awful either.

A good midpoint
Grandpa Jim Jun 28, 2009
The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly although, for some reason, the maids neglected the vacuum for several days ... until we complained of the problem to the management. The breakfast was excellent. The plumbing and other physical fixtures are aging and need repair/updating. The elevator which is essential because the stairs are difficult to locate carries a certificate that it is inspected by the "Department of Elevators and Amusement Rides" (seriously!)--it goes s l o w l y, jerks and makes all kinds of strange noises and the floor tiles are coming loose. If you stay here you are definitely paying for location because the hotel is on a par with venues that charge $50 per night less in other locations.

We went to the Isle of Palms beach which was lovely and walked around the city of Charleston while there. Our room was large ... which was nice however it was moldy/musty smelling and the furnishings were outdated with stained and dirty carpet. The walls were in poor condition and needed drywall work and a paint job. The staff could have been more professional and accomodating. The breakfast was large and pretty good although they ran out of food and there was not enough tables to accomodate all of the guests at breakfast.

Not bad for the price
Jethro Jun 15, 2009
We arrived at 1pm and the clerk said the room would not be ready for another 1.5 hrs. We came back at 430p and the clerk had ... to get on the radio and find out if the rooms were clean yet. We finally got in the room 45 mins later. We had a suite for 6 but only had linens for 4. After getting all settled, it was a clean and comfortable room. The clerk was great on giving us an inside track on a local seafood resturant (Gilligans) that was wonderful. The FREE deluxe breakfast was tasty as well, especially for a fixed budget. Overall, it was worth the rate and wait.

Basic maintenance needed
Pam, frustrated traveler Jun 10, 2009
We used the hotel as a base to visit the beach and downtown Charleston. The handle on our door was half off. The first day ... housekeeping showed up around 10am. We had just gotten back from breakfast and did not need housekeeping at that time. The second day we returned from the beach around 12:30pm and housekeeping had not been to the room. We needed clean towels and had to go hunt housekeeping down. One day housekeeping turned up and asked if we needed any service. I said we needed clean towels and the trash cans emptied. The housekeeper returned with clean bath towels and that was it. I had to ask for clean face towels and wash cloths. She informed me she would be back later with them as they were still in the dryers. All in all I expected better from Comfort Inns.

The address is not accurate as my GPS takes me an area of trees. The front desk told me the physical address is wrong as ... "many of the folks checking in said their GPS was wrong." There is no signage....NONE! I was actually on the telephone calling the property when I just happened to see the Comfort Suite sign through some trees. The property shares a parking lot with some retailers. All parking for hotel guests is behind or beside the property as the front parking is "reserved for retail only." Once inside, things were very clean, a plentiful continental-plus breakfast, clean rooms, quiet and spacious. Just a bad location. Maybe the location isn't bad, but with no signage anywhere, it makes it difficult to find if one is unfamiliar with the area.

Good Place for Christmas
Jody Dec 27, 2007
Having stayed in many different hotels throughout the Charleston area on various trips, we can say that our visit with ... Comfort Suites was neither the best nor the worst. The daily breakfast was okay. Instant Grits were used instead of the slow cook kind, and if you are a true Southerner, you know what a mistake this is! The rooms were very comfortable and offered everything a traveler needs. We did have to request our room be cleaned after it was overlooked. But that was handled in a timely manner. The location of the hotel was just great! Close to the beach, and shopping really makes the location a prime spot! We are planning a return trip soon, and would be pleased to stay here again!

If you intend on shopping, leave your car parked at the hotel. The Towne Center shopping area is right next door! Also, for a great lunch or dinner, visit the Main Street Grille right next door to the hotel!

Overall, the hotel and room were attractive and the location was convenient - relatively short drive to the waterfront and to ... the city. The room was nicely equipped with sink, small firdge and microwave oven. Plenty of room with separate sitting/kitchen area. Lots of nearby conveniences - restaurants, shopping. The complimentary breakfast buffet was very nice and satisfying. A little more attention could have been paid to cleaning tables as guests finished and left. The staff, though friendly, appeared disengaged. Signs throughout room encourage guests to reuse towels and linens. I was willing and prepared to do that. However, when I returned to my room in the afternoon after the first night, I was surprised to find the used towels had been taken and not replaced. The room had not been freshened, the bed was still unmade. Could be a fluke and is a very easy fix.

The hotel staff was very pleasant. Hotel is located in close proximity to several restaurants, a mall, a Starbucks, and a ... grocery store. Only 3 miles to the beach. Pool was nice for the kids. Rooms were spacious, clean - I liked the kitchenette area. The beds were very comfortable! They served a great breakfast in the morning. I would definately go back!

GREAT VALUE HOTEL
MILTON Jul 26, 2007
THE COMFORT INN ISLE OF PALMS WAS A VERY COMFORTABLE HOTEL. THE ROOM WAS VERY LARGE AND UP TO DATE. THE BATHROOM WAS ... SPACIOUS. THE ONLY TWO PROBLEMS THAT WE ENCOUNTERED WAS (1) THE LIGHT SWITCHES WERE CONFUSING. THERE WERE MANY IN THE ROOM AND I NEVER REALLY FIGURED OUT WHICH ONES CONTROLLED WHICH LIGHTS. (2) THERE WAS NO STORAGE AREA IN THE BATHROOM FOR OUR TOILETRIES. THE LOCATION WAS GOOD NEAR SHOPPING,RESTAURANTS, AND NOT TOO FAR FROM THE BEACH. ALSO THIS HOTEL HAD THE NICEST CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST OF ANY HOTEL WE HAVE EVER STAYED AT, NOT TO MENTION THAT THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT.
