The place is not bad. It can be noisy if one leaves the window open. This place has its own charm, the amenities were nice ... and the staff very friendly and helpful. A bit pricey like everything else in Santa Barbara. Some of the people walking down the street are questionable. A nice place to stay without a Hotel atmosphere.

If you don't mind walking the restaurants are close and shopping is a bit farther but worth it. Any way you can cut it we still had Fun.

Do yourself a favor and book a whale watching trip with Condor Cruises in the Santa Barbara harbor! We went in July when there are blue and humpback whales and it was absolutely amazing! Best part of the trip for sure!

Nice & Quaint

This motel was furnished very nice. I liked the setting and the personal service was great. For such a small hotel, the ... amenities were good. I especially liked the fact that they had a good breakfast, an evening snack & cookies! These little nicesities is why I chose this hotel over another that was listed for about the same price.

Quaint little place
Chris H Jul 15, 2009
You get what the pictures show: the rooms are cozy, the bathroom is really nice, and the location to the beach is great. ... It's Santa Barbara, so one should expect to pay a little more for a "normal" room, but I was still more than happy with what this place had to offer. Plus, the ceiling fan in the room actually came in rather handy on warm nights. Also, there isn't a whole lot of parking, so when the hotel is full, you might have to park on a nearby street, but very nearby. If anyone claims this hotel is in a "bad neighborhood" as I have read before I came, they are completely mistaken.

Really is in a great location for seeing the ocean-side of Santa Barbara, a couple of blocks from the beach/harbor and half ... way between the wharf and the harbor so positioned nicely! Nice touches for visiting, wine and cheese tasting and cookies and milk every afternoon/evening. Only downside is that Castillo street is a fairly busy through-fare and traffic can get noisy.

mid-way between the wharf/State street and the harbor, great dining in either direction.

My review of Colonial Beach Inn
Sherrill Jul 24, 2008
We only stayed one night at the Colonial Inn in Santa Barbara. The hotel has nice decor but you could barely move around in ... the bathroom and there was no counter to place your items, they had to be either on the back of the toliet or on a counter outside the bathroom. It is right on a busy street and parking was very limited in the parking lot. I would not return because of the bathroom, but otherwise it was fine.

Super clean. The room was very comfortable. The staff was super helpful. The continental breakfast was generous; the ... afternoon milk & cookies was a nice touch and included quality local wines; the fruit basket was constantly replenished. The location is very close to everything Santa Barbara has to offer -downtown, RESTAURANTS, State St., the wharf.

This was my wife and I's first time to Santa Barbara and we had a great time. The Colonial Hotel was perfect for a quick ... cheap get away. No frills just a great place to lay our heads at night and just far enough away from state street to not get the rowdy crowd yelling and screaming all night long.

The Colonial Beach Inn was very welcoming. Not only to the eyes but also in everything. Very nostalgic and simple. Staying ... there makes us feel at home. I highly recommend it to anyone who would like to get away for the weekend. Shopping stores, restaurants and the beach is just walking distance away. We absolutely loved it and will come back again.

Our hotel are surrounded by shopping store/malls, coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, book stores, spas, beach, and etc. The hotel gave us free colorful, very useful map of the city and they also included a guide book of almost all the things you could do and have fun.
