Moldy and smelly!
CMJ Oct 12, 2009
When we arrived, the lobby and downstairs was beautiful! However, once we got out of the elevator onto the 2nd floor, it ... reeked like urine and mold... once we opened the door to our room, the smell hit us like a ton of bricks. A huge chunk of the wall was rotting away from water damage, it smelled like mold and mildew, and it was just unbearable. We went straight back to the front desk where the staff immediately moved us to a different room. The 2nd room only smelled a little like mold, so we decided to just suck it up for the night and deal. The staff was great, the rooms were just awful.

Nice surprise
Jean Sep 11, 2009
I have stayed in this hotel before and went back because it offers loungers which recline and are so comfortable after a long ... drive. What a pleasant surprise to see how the rooms had been renovated. The bed was comfortable. The down pillows and down comforters with high thread count sheets were so luxurious. The bath tub was refitted and spotlessly clean. Really nice. Free breakfast was also nice, although I missed the waffles they used to offer. All and all very pleasantly surprised and happy with so much luxury at such a nice rate.

hotel smelled funny, like it was very damp. Needs a lot of renevations, wallpaper peeling off in bathroom etc. pool was ... disgusting, there were hairs floating in it and a big pile of hair and dirt in the middle. overall just not very clean, but very cheap.

reasonable for the price
JP Aug 31, 2009
This hotel does not deserve its old bad reviews. Granted, it is not in the best location but it has very easy access from ... Interstate 90. Staff was polite and helpful with directions to downtown Albany, which is only 10-15 minutes away. Central Ave which was once the main drag for restaurants still has its share of decent places. A great Vienamese restaurant, for example. The price is very reasonable and the location is the tradeoff. The hotel room was not filthy or smelly as older reviews suggested. I would stay there again. A good alternative to Wolf road area if you want to save some money and can deal with the location. A older hotel but still a decent hotel.

What a dump
Sadder but wiser Apr 22, 2009
I told the front desk when I checked in that I would need a shuttle ride to the train station the following morning. They ... said "no problem." In the meantime I found my room to be very shabby, e.g. dirty carpet, wallpaper pulling away from the walls, newspaper duct-taped in the cracks along the windowsill to keep the wind out. The food in the restaurant was horrible. The "business center" consisted of one desktop computer that wasn't working. The next morning I had to go down to the front desk to request caffeinated coffee since the packets in my room were both decaf. Front desk clerk said he couldn't find any at the moment, but would send some right up. It never came. I also reminded him that I needed a shuttle ride. He said okay. Checked out and found that the shuttle was just about to leave to drop off guests at the airport. When I reminded the clerk I needed a ride to the train station, he looked at me as if I'd just announced I was giving birth to an alien in the lobby. "WHAT?" The shuttle driver took pity on me and did take me to the station in the end. I was extremely pleased to LEAVE this very dumpy, ineptly run hotel.

SIMPLY AWFUL
none Mar 19, 2009
AWFUL!!! Was woken early up after working late at night by the sounds of a sawzall and hammering, incredibly uncaring ... behavior. Went on and on, even as I left. While getting dressed, the maid just walked into the room no knocking, just walked in. Front Desk Manager did not address the problems, asked when I would be in town next, presumably to give me a break on another room. This hotel tried hard to tell me what it thinks of its guests, and I got the message.

Middle of the Road Hotel
Maureen Dec 6, 2007
This is a good middle of the road hotel. THere is nothing super but no complaints either. The bathroom had nice ammenities ... but was pretty plain looks-wise. The breakfast offer a nice variety of items but they should really work on providing a good cup of coffee. It is very convenient to I-90 and seems to be finished its renovations.

Accomodating
Rebecca Jun 3, 2007
The Clarion was very helpful. I needed a place to stay at the last minute and I know they probably hate customers like me ... however they helped me with everything i needed and in a very timely fashion. I didn't have to wait in line for check-in or check-out and everything was very neat and organized. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Its near both Crossgates and the Colonie Center malls. Up the road there is a nice pool hall called the Golden Cue which i would recommend for something different to do.

Debra May 24, 2007
The Clarion Albany was very easy to get to from the airport. I had meetings in downtown Albany and it took about five ... minutes to get there from the Clarion. Very easy to get on the highway and very easy to get off. I would definately stay there again.
