Great location. Not so great rooms.

Doc Nov 10, 2009

I stayed here five years ago and enjoyed a great experience. Not so on my recent stay. The room I had was over King Street ... and was very noisy. The halls had stretches of tiled floors which added to the noise when people walked on them. There was a mysterious on and off machine "woo-wooing" all night long. The staff talked loudly when begining their shifts between 5:00 and 6:00 AM! Definately not worth the money even with [...] discount.

Great place to stay!

Best location you could want. Walk out the door and you are at Market Street, restaurants, great shopping just about anything ... you want, just walk to all of it. Took a horse and buggy ride that went right down to the battery district and toured the historic district. Carriage picked us up right out front of the hotel and dropped us off there. Great experience. Drinks in the bar while watching guest move around the lobby and grand stairway. First night there we strolled down Market Street only to discovery a great restaurant on the water. Great walk and wonderful food and stroll back to the hotel. Will I go back, no doubt.

Night away from the kids...

15 years and still married... Aug 19, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel was nice, but the room wasn't ready when we got there and we had to wait almost an hour before we were able to get ... in. We also ate at the restaurant for dinner and the food was quite salty. It wasn't worth it for the moeny $$$$ we paid for it. I wouldn't recommend going there. We did enjoy the room and it was quite nice. We had a nice view and everything was clean. I would stay there again, but I wouldn't eat at the hotel.

4-6 blocks of walking. The Oak Steakhouse was superb! Reservations a must as it is very busy. The food was fantastic with huge portions. I had southern buttermilk chicken which came with 8 pieces. So good I took home on the plane with me! My husband had osso bucco which was delicious. On the pricey side but well worth the quality. Seemed to be a local favorite too.

Great Location

Josh Jan 1, 2009

The Charleston Place is located in a perfect location for exploring historic Charleston. This hotel has both old world charm ... and all the modern amenities. Rooms are more than adequate for the price. Room had full size wardrobe with plenty of hangars and a nice desk/work area. We didn?t have a lot of contact with the hotel staff (not the fault of the staff just a late check in and early check out) so I can?t really give a fair opinion.

Beware of feathers if you're allergic

Rachel Aug 7, 2007

Would recommend to a friend!

We stayed at this hotel for our 1 year anniversary. The room was nice in a standard sort of way and the bathroom was fairly ... large. There is a scale in the bathroom and it weighs lighter than what you really are...maybe so you don't feel as bad when you eat all that Southern food in Charleston. The room service was overpriced in my opinion for a simple breakfast but I guess you'll find that anywhere. My only major critic was the service: My husband is allergic to feathers so we require rooms to be feather free. I called ahead and asked for no feathers and the lady said nothing was feather and that she would request foam pillows. So, we arrived and thought everything was fine until my husband starting sneezing and getting stuffed up. He called and asked if the comfortor was feather and the guy immediately answered yes. We asked that someone come up to change it and about five to ten minutes later, a young guy knocked on the door. He brought three blankets, none of them nice or luxurious for that matter. He said almost everything they have is feather so I could take my pick from those three. He then handed the one I chose to me and said here you go. WE had to change the bedding!! I thought that was ridiculous. I guess 3 star hotels and five star hotels are willing to change the bedding but the 4 stars won't? Other than this fiasco, we had a great time being downtown.
