Makahuena at Poipu is on the southernmost point of the island of Kauai and offers the rare opportunity for viewing both sunrise and sunset from its oceanfront location.
This oceanfront all-suite condominium consists of beautifully furnished one, two and three bedroom suites with full kitchen, and offers swimming pool, sundeck, jet spa, and tennis court and barbecue area. With Keoniloa Bay and Shipwreck Beach to the East and Brennecke's and Poipu Beach to the West, Makahuena is within walking distance to some of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
Beginning March 15, 2009, Castle Resorts will provide mid-stay housekeeping service for stays that are 7 days or longer, which includes changing of linens and towels, vacuuming, and cleaning of bathrooms as well as kitchens. As a result, this properties will not be offering daily maid service in lieu of this mid-stay clean. Daily maid service will be honored for any reservations that are booked prior to March 15, 2009. Guests who are staying less than 7 days can purchase additional housekeeping services at nominal costs. Extra towels and amenities will be provided in each unit prior to check-in. Guests can request for replenishment of the bath amenities (shampoo, soap, toilet tissues) at any time without charge. There will be a small fee for the replacement of towels/linens.

Late check in was super easy. The condo was much larger than we expected, with great amenities and clean throughout. The ... breeze kept us cool - the temperature was always perfect despite no AC. The beach is not really convenient walking distance (we did walk to it though) - probably a 15 minute walk. But still convenient and a quick easy drive to the beach when we took our cooler and snorkeling gear. We used the gas BBQ for a cookout one night. My wife and I both loved it and will stay there again.

We were on our honeymoon & this location was a perfect location. We got great views on the Makaheuna's cliffs of both ... sunrises & sunsets! We saw dolphins swim by the cliffs! The grounds are immaculately maintained & the pool & jacuzzi are very clean & centrally located. The first condo we stayed in was a partial ocean view on the 1st floor. This was a nice but outdated space w/ some nonworking power outlets & really loud bathroom fans. We asked for an upgrade & [...] & [...] were very nice to move us to a fabulous 2 story condo on the 3rd floor w/ full upgrades & a sweeping ocean view for a little more money. We're definitely coming back.

We didn't find any great breakfast options in Poipu. I'd recommend eating in for breakfast, stopping by Puka Dogs for lunch, and going to Keoki's Paradise or Roy's for dinner. All 3 are located in the Poipu Shopping Center. Keoki's and Roy's have 3-course dinner menus for those who arrive before 5:30/5:45 PM. I highly recommend them for quality and cost effectiveness. If you're in Poipu for a few days, I'd recommend getting lunch at Mark's Place or Hamura Saimin Stand in Lihue. They're great local favorites.

Comfortable Condo - Walking to Beach

We really liked the Makahuena Condos. Our unit, 1403, had a partial view of the ocean from the deck and master bedroom. It ... was an easy 5 minute walk to the beach. Everything we needed for a day in the sun was available (extra towels, cooler, mats, boogie board, etc). There was a full entertainment center in the living room and a plasma TV in the master bedroom. Free cable and internet were available. The kitchen was well equipped with dishes, small electronics, and nice appliances. We would definitely stay there again.

Ocean waves pounding against the cliffs seem to rock you to sleep each night and the sunsets are amazing over the deep blue ... Pacific ocean. You'll find yourself within walking distance to Poipu & Shipwreck Beach along with fabulous dining and shops nearby. This facility is very centrally located for whatever your adventure of the day may be. Mahalo!!!

Awesome views and sunsets

The Castle Makahuena Condominium Resort at Poipu, is a great value for the location. The beach wasn't as close as I ... expected, but a short car ride did the trick. The resort's pool and spa were down for maintanence the majority of time we wre there, which was only 3 days, so it put a bit of a damper on our poolside relaxation, but we found plenty of other things to do. We were in a 2 bedroom ocean front condo which was very spacious and was right on the cliff so you not only got an ocean view with beautiful sunsets but also a magnificent display of waves crashing on the rocks sending sprays of water into the air. BREATHTAKING! Overall our stay was very nice, the price was great, views incredible, bed a bit saggy but clean and well kept. It does show signs of aging but I think they are in the process of taking care of that.

There is a Roy's restaurant in the Poipu shopping center which is maybe 5 min away and also equally close in the opposite direction is the Grand Hyatt with their Tidepools restaurant, VERY ROMANTIC!
