Best on the island
Laurie Sep 8, 2007
We couldn't have asked for more. The condo we rented for six days at the Lanikai Resort provided the nicest accommodations ... we've ever had. The beautiful two bedroom, two bath unit was tastefully decorated with a fabulous second floor view of the pool and beach - best of all, we usually had the pool and beach to ourselves. Rather than being right on a busy road like many of the hotels, the Lanikai is set back with a green buffer between it and the road, so there was no traffic noise. We were able to park our rental car right outside our room, rather than needing to hike to the hotel from the parking lot or use valet service (or pay to park) as is necessary at some hotels on the island. No elevator didn't bother us as we are capable of carrying suitcases up a flight of stairs; however, if that's a problem, I'd recommend a ground floor unit. Each unit is different since they are owned and rented by the owners, but we couldn't have been happier with the location.

Stop at the Safeway for your groceries and ask for a Safeway card as you check out. Our cashier offered one to us and then deducted $23 from the total. (Be sure to get a rental car. You will need a guidebook to find local attractions; Kauai does not do a good job of providing signs directing you to sights.)
