Best Location In Maui
Eddie & Cassy Mendez Nov 4, 2009
We love Kamaole Sands!! We have stayed there 9 times in the past 5 years. We love being able to walk to a great beach,Kam 3 ... and also drive 5 minutes to Waliea, Makena & La Pruose Bay. Each condo is different, so if you buy thru a package deal, alway go for the upgrade. We paid $6.00 extra per night for Garden view & when we checked in, WOW we also got an ocean view, we couldn't have been happier:) The condo also had boogie boards, beach chairs, ice chest, etc. all things you always want on a beach trip but don't have access to. Tons of great places to eat are within a 5-10 minute drive. We love Khiei Cafe for a big & good breakfast. South Shore Tiki Lounge is great for music, drinks and food. Aroma d' Italia, next to Foodland is THE BEST, ask for Warren, he always takes very good care of us, just tell him Eddie & Cassy, from Phoenix, sent you. You also must take the beautiful drive down past all the Wailea resorts, past Big Beach (both entrances) and on your left hand side you will see(and smell) Makena Grill, you will see Marissa there most days, she works 11'ish till 4'ish, She has the most amazing food @ her small grill, get her amazing salsa on anything you order.

This was a Condo Resort that we stayed at last year, this time we wanted a Garden view, we arrived late at 9pm due to Plane ... delay. The first Condo was not what we expected, it was on the 2nd floor and our view was of the back side lawn and road, there was scaffolding up at the outside for workmen doing repairs. We complained and were given another Condo on the first floor overlooking the lawn, we liked this one,The staff were very courteous and helpful during our stay.

Good Bad and Ugly
notsosure Oct 26, 2009
Although the location of the room was great- close to everything including the front desk, pool, parking spot and beach- plus ... we could see the sunsets from our lanai- after only three days there they started repairs on some lanai's right next to us. It was extremely noisy as they were drilling through concrete plus they set up scaffolding which totally took away from our view. The construction dust covered all of the furniture on the lanai. The room itself was outdated and not very clean. The mattress on the sofa bed was in desparate need of being replaced. We had to call the plumber a couple of times as the plumbing was not working properly. We asked for a late check out free of charge due to having to put up with the construction adnwere told by the manager that this was no problem and would be looked after. At one o'clock we received a call from the front desk staff who rudely informed us that we were to be out of our room by noon- we then had to explain that the manager had approved our extension etc. The pool area was great as well as the Maitai parties on Weds. Also great access to internet. The grounds are beautiful and extremely well maintained. They need to have a better way to communicate with the owners especially when they decide to do construction on their unit and do not discuss this with the property mangaers.

We originally had a condo overlooking another building so paid $20 more a night to have an ocean view. It was perfect!! We ... hated to leave. The beach is across the street and driving around Maui is so easy. We met many nice people there. The evenings were so peaceful. The grounds are extremely beautiful and perfectly manicured.

They had a travel consultant at the hotel and she was most helpful. Instead of driving, we took a tour of the Hana Road and it was well worth it. It would never have had such a knowledgeable or good time if we had driving alone.

Great Location, Great Condo, Great Trip!
PamE Oct 12, 2009
This was a great trip! Our 2nd trip to Maui in the last four years and we were very pleasantly surprised with our condo. ... Had stayed in Kihei before so knew the area was good. This condo was really nice. Grounds were beautiful, location is fantastic - right across from great snorkeling at Kamaole Beach III. Our unit 10-107 was great. Partial ocean view, just up from the beach. Had been recently upgraded in kitchens and baths. Kitchen was well stocked, although the pots and pans were a bit over used. We were a little uneasy about the rooms before we arrived since we had read some bad reviews, but each unit is individually owned so you just never know. I made a point to email/call the hotel directly with our concerns and to verify our late check-in, so perhaps that helped. Have a nice pool and jacuzzi. Several Fantastic BBQ areas so no waiting for one to free up. Huge gas grills and eating areas that are brightly lit. Internet access in the lobby which makes checking in for your flight a breeze. Free newspapers and an on-sight travel planner for your excursions. Caught a Molokini Snorkel trip right at the Kihei boat ramp instead of driving 30-60 minutes to other locations, we drove 2 minutes! Smaller boat (approx 20 people) so more flexibility and friendly staff that took interest in each of us (SeaFire), plus it was cheaper. Less travel time means more snorkeling. All in all would definitely stay here again. Can't wait to go back someday to see the whales!

Go to Costco and Walmart for food first, then the grocery stores. Groceries are very expensive. Buy a styrofoam cooler and pack food for the day trips. Then you can eat what you want, where you want, for much less. Save your money for a nice dinner. Pay it forward ane Leave the cooler at the car rental for someone else.

Not So Great.
Not So Fast? Sep 27, 2009
Our retreat to Maui at Kamaole Sands is a spacious getaway for two. But beyond spacious there's nothing left good to say. ... What appears to be well tuck on the surface lies an allergist hell. Stay away if you have allergies. Due to our luck, the maintenance on plumbing was serviced every morning of our stay. Six in the morning is the wake-call from the plumbers talking outside our room. Work started at 7am with shoveling dirt and the echoes of their talks bouncing off every wall of our room. Their work top-off with a mid-week shut-off of all water supplies for half of the day as posted the night before and hours beyond. So if you like a noisy and dusty room this place is for you. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our stay.

There is a $15 "resort fee" that is not included in the cost of the condo. They charge you when you check in. The resort fee ... is for entry gate electronic card, pool gate codes, parking permit, Maui newspaper, Maui magazine, local calls, "Cyber Cafe "access card, Wednesday Mai Tai Party invitation. All stuff that should be included in the cost of the condo or at least the fee should be disclosed before you book the condo.

This is our third time staying at Kamaole Sands. This unit was not up to par compared to the other units we've stayed in. I ... payed for the garden/ocean view and we were given a 2nd floor unit with trees blocking our view. The carpet had a lot of stains and desperately needs an upgrad.

Hotel staff lectured me about trying to check in early. Previous conversations with staff stated i can check in early without ... paying a charge. Arrived on Maui at 7ish and called to see if i can check in. Front desk said i can come in at 1100 and when i showed up they said they told me it was 1200. Front desk lectured me about their policy but overall let me check in early. Maui has no ALOHA!!

So relaxing...
Portuguese Guy Sep 7, 2009
The location was great. The landscape was well maintained. The pool had two hot tubs. One was for those who like it hot ... and a warm one. The BBQs were very nice. They were cleaned everyday. The beach across the street was amazing and peaceful. The room provided boogie boards, ice box and umbrellas. We left our snorkel and flippers behind to complete the set. The only things I didn't like were the (fist day) complimentary breakfast (Everything was gone even thought we got there on time?) and that the living area and lanai had a rug floor. All the pictures showed tile floors? Over all still a great deal. Lots of fun. There was an addtional $15 fee during check in.

Make sure you shop and book all reservations (boating, helicopter, luau and tours) in Lahaina. Look for Front Street. Everything is almost 50% off compared to Kihei and Maui. Be sure to take the road to Hana! There is no need to pay for a snorkel trip. You can see nice fish in back of the Grand Wailea beach. The discount card provided by the Hotel is a great grocery place. It's a mile or so down the road.

My wife's first trip to Kihei. She loved it. Close to the beach, and quiet pool to sit around. We had a room near a busy ... side street so it was a little noisy, but not bad. Room was great. I was surprised by the $15 charge for the parking, internet, newspaper, extra stuff. Not bad-but unexpected. Being from AK,we would have liked an air conditioner in the bedroom for sleeping but the fans with the windows open worked well. We would go back again.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay @ Castle Kamaole. Although our condo unit (Bldg 3-108) had kitchen utensils, it did not have ... any basic condiments - sugar, salt, oil...we had to purchase these items prior to using the on-site BBQ. The floor felt a little dirty/gritty, the pillows were yellow w/ many stains and one of the blankets was so worn out that it had a few holes. However, the landscaping, pool & fountains were so beautiful. Please note that there is a mandatory $15.00 charge for checking in. Wonder why guests have to pay a fee just to check in to their condo.
