Castle Hokele staff welcomed us with an immediate complimentary upgrade when we mentioned it was our 14th anniversary. We ... felt well taken care of and yet not intruded upon; a difficult balance indeed. They provided that our adult daughters' room (as we brought them with us) was very near and on the same floor. We did not have to request any additional services from the hotel. Anticipation of our needs was apparent. The hotel was an older building but well kept and maintained.

Hotel in great location. Walking distance to beach, shopping and many restaurants. Rooms are a typical 2 star room with a ... small kitchen. Bathroom could be a bit cleaner. Morning buffet wasn't very good. A good hotel if you are looking for a place to sleep in Waikiki. Not so good if you are planning on hanging around your hotel all day.

Loved Hawaii Aug 3, 2009
The hotel seemed to be clean but old. The lady at the desk when we checked in just after noon on July 14 was not friendly or ... helpful. She acted like we were really putting her out by checking in. One of the other desk clerks gave us bad info as to where to park in the DFS overflow parking and our car ended up locked behind the gate. After two hours wandering around with security, they finaly found someone who could get the gate unlocked so we could get on with our vacation. Very angry that we had to pay an extra $20 to park in the hotel where we had already paid to stay. Even if I would have been warned on Orbitz website it wouldn't have been so maddening. The parking structure is only big enough for smal compact cars with only 10 - 15 spots and they even sold all of those. There were a lot of us so we were in a big Suburban. It took us 10 - 15 minutes to get in and out everytime we left or returned.

I had read reviews on this hotel before I went so I knew what to expect. The shower did have mold, but I bought some Tilex ... Mold/Mildrew Remover and it worked great! I was glad I had packed slippers for my family since the carpet would turn our feet black if we walked on them barefooted. If I had not been prepared and expecting this I might not have been able to stay. However, the bedding (sheets) were extremely clean and smelled of bleach (which I thought was a good thing!). The kitchen was tiny but useable, and we were there for 14 days of which I cooked (easy things- tacos, hot dogs, ect) all but 2 days. The hotel staff was friendly. The pool was great, never busy, and very clean. The 'breakfast' is gross. I tried the free breakfast once and left after a few bites. The restaurant was dirty, I didn't want to even sit in the chairs. They were stained, ripped and had food stuck on them. I wouldn't let my kids put their hands anywhere but their laps and then we left! There is a IHOP really close and very affordable! The location of this hotel was great. We walked every where. Parking was $20/day, but even if you pay the fee and then leave your parking spot if there isn't one open when you get back then you lost that money and still have no where to park! Overall, I wouldn't stay here again if I could afford something better. This hotel did seem to be trying hard to improve~ Lots of painting, bug spraying (although I never saw one bug!), and general upkeep was being done while I was there.

To tell you the truth, I was not extremely happy with this hotel. I mean it was in an excellent location, the rooms were ... okay- not entirely clean, but good enough, and I liked the small kitchenette. But there's a lot that needs to be done for me to come back and visit this hotel again. I was not happy at all with the hotel parking. I think there were only 12 stalls, and it was very hard to park in with a large 7 passanger van. There was only one way in and out of the parking structure, so you had to back out into traffic. Luckily the road the hotel was on is a one way street. The shower stall was very small. Luckily I'm not a big woman. The sinks were too small to wash your face at. The a/c in our room was missing it's vent. There's just too much negatives to write down. I mean, if you are looking for an affordable place to stay it's okay here, but it needs a lot of work.

We were a family of 11 people and we were very busy with a 3 day event. Our movements were all hours of the day and evening ... and the parking situation was very inconvenient. Small and limited parking garage and the over flow was half a block away in a parking structure and the parking enterance was hard to find and complicated to figure out the in and out by foot too! Parkking should be free for the inconvenience.

The bathroom sink was dirty when we got there as was the shower. The shower door was extremly small and there was no where ... to put shampoo bottles. The beds were broken and the coils in them were squeaky. Asking for extra towels and getting them was like pulling teeth. There was also NO alarm clock in the room, and the parking fee was expensive.

Pros: location is very convenient; it's near to the beach, shopping and international market. Cons: the room is much ... smaller than what shown in the picture. "A fully equipped kitchen" is not what we expected: it has a stove, small refrig, microwave, some utensils, plates, cups and 1 pan, small pot but it doesn't have its own room with table and chairs. It's located right at the room entrance. Another thing we didn't like is their free breakfast which they serve us: few muffins and either water or tea. That's all! But if you want, you can pay $3.00 more for the buffet, which is more chinese style (rice, ramen, egg, tofu, roasted peanuts,kim-chi, etc.)

Upon check in, the front desk clerk (Derek) wasn't very friendly. Personally, his performance was comparable to a robot. ... Our reservation consisted of 4 guests, but when you need to call every night for extra towels because they kept replacing with just 3 sets, is irritating. The bathroom sink was also constanting dripping of hot water. The shower head needs to be badly replaced. The final clincher was the day of check out. I was very upset with the same Derek from the front desk calling @ 12:30 reminding us that check out was @ 12:00. I understand check out time but, it's not easy traveling with young children. And again upon check out, same performance, the not very friendly attitude.

The location was not that bad. It was more than a couple blocks away from the beach. Internet service was NOT FREE and ... holding internet that was not secured was a hit and miss. The parking garage COST 20.00$ PER DAY or you can park in a different garage for the SAME PRICE. Parking is very cramped. Park with caution. There was NO bath tub. The sink was so old that the spout barely stuck out for you to rinse your toothbrush. We were cramped in the room itself. 4 people, two full sized beds and we were stepping on each other to get ready to leave or just trying to get to the bathroom/refridge. The walls are VERY thin.. You can hear everyone next to you. We listened to a toddler cry for hours next door. Complementary breakfast consisted of little debbie dougnuts and muffins (little debbies too!) So you do not save any money by thinking you are going to get a decent complementary breakfast. We watched them open the packages before serving them to us on a plate. 3 dougnuts and 2 muffins. I guess you get what you pay for. Next time I stay anywhere I will look for and read the fine print.

I did like the fact that we had a couple of close restraunts to go to for meals. Make sure you have plenty of money cause it is expensive. What normally would feed us at IHOP/Denny's for a reasonable amount cost us almost double.. That is Hawaii for ya!
