Excellent service, convenient location
Lucky Traveler Oct 11, 2009
Booked this hotel for three nights for a conference. The location can't be beat for access to Polanco, Chapultepec, and the ... Auditorio Nacional. Access to the reservation desk requires stairs, which I thought was odd. Bell hops were available to help, but I still think it's difficult to have to carry your luggage up and down stairs. The hotel is very spread out with nice space for bars, restaurants, etc. My room had a balcony, which was great, but I could hear a lot of noise from the fifth (top) floor. Room service is great, and all of the staff are super friendly. I had no problems with my stay at the hotel.

A fantastic hotel

The hotel is in a great location: near first class museums, art galleries, important historical sites such as the Chapultepec ... Castle. There are fantastic restaurants, gift shops and an American Express money exchange office inside the hotel. You really don't have to leave the hotel. We did go out of the hotel and visited the Teotihuacan pyramids, centro historico and the Castillo de Chapultepec. It was a fantastic vacation.

Terrible Internet service every time
John L Aug 7, 2009
The TV did not work when I arrived. A main ceiling light flickered for three days. Each tiny bottle of water in the room ... costs $3.50. Worst of all - the internet service was terrible. I have stayed at this hotel four times and the internet service is always bad and unreliable. Technicians come check the connections and can never fix it - even their Ethernet is bad. I'm taking this hotel off my list because of this.

Almost Flawless Stay at the Camino Real
TequilaSunrise May 26, 2009
The hotel was gorgeous and in a fabulous area, right near Chapuletec Park. The rooms were very clean and well maintained, ... service was overall friendly. It was nice being in a hotel with a Mexican feel vs a generic institution like a Marriott etc. However, it was both a bit of a hike to the subway and confusing to get to due to a highway in the middle of the Park that made crossing a nightmare(and I actually have a great sense of direction in cities). The only other drawback was a problem we had with room service. To make a long story short we were sent the wrong Champagne (ie $100USD more than the price/size listed). After numerous calls to room service, the manager and finally the head of guest services we were offered a compromise. They took care of the problem, eventually, but it did take awhile to get there. I am glad they did because everything else they did was perfect and I would stay there again in a heartbeat. Please note, though, tourists, it is kind of far from Centro which is where many of the big attractions are. It is, however, very close to the Anthropology Musuem. Also be advised, the pool closes at 7, and there are free ATMs in the lobby.

If you can, dedicate a lot of time to the Anthropology Musuem, simply one of the largest and most wonderful I've ever been to- and I live in NYC where there is no shortage, but this was amazing!

Poor beds diminish experience
Daniel Jan 4, 2009
This hotel had large, clean, lovely rooms in one of the best locations in Mexico City. Unfortunately, the bedding was truly ... terrible. The beds we experienced were very hard and yet sagged under one's body weight. The result was poor sleep and significant back pain. Further, the pillows were rather uncomfortable. My pillow was rumpled, I assume due to laundering, and was thus even more uncomfortable than the other pillows. But excepting this problem, the hotel was quite nice.

The Camino Real, Mexico DF gave us a room that was less than what we paid for. The matresses were very hard. Our room was as ... far as one could get from the desk and was on the street side with accompanying Mexico City traffic. This will be our last stay at this Camino Real.

Grand Hotel Mexican Style
salvador Mar 18, 2008
The room was large with outdoor terraza. I could hear the birds singing outside. It was a nice surprise in the heart of ... Mexico City. The marble bathroom was impressing. the pool was large and beautiful and the service was nice but somewhat expensive, very typical of grand Mexican hotels of this caliber. The fitness room reminded me of the best hotels in Asia such as the Shangrila in Singapore, and the Regent in Thailand. I ordered pasta from Vici?s and it was the best room service food I ever had. Again, on the expensive side but worth it. On the deficient side, no ice on both of the ice makers on the 3rd floor and no towels left in the room after cleaning. I called and no towels. I had to look for the maid and she gave me some towels.

Camino Real Mexico City stay was very pleasent because the hotel really is an oasis in the middle of a very busy and noisy ... modern city. The large scale of the spaces make it seem you are in your own personal hacienda. I was in the hotel when it opened and keep coming back after 40 years. The architecture is modern today as it was in 1968.
