Nice hotel in Recoleta
Emanuela Oct 8, 2009
My husband and I were there at the beginning of October, to work at the University of Buenos Aires (at walking distance from ... the hotel Wilton). In a safe area, the hotel offers everything you need: good buffet breakfast, free internet, and the gym & sauna (please, note: these are located at the top floor of the first of the two towers which compose the hotel Wilton, therefore if you take the elevator of the second tower you won't find the gym!). The hotel is very close to the historical bookstore El Ateneo (which used to be a theatre and still looks like), and to the good restaurant Buenos Aires Grill.
Traveler type: Couples
The bookstore AND restaurant "Clasica y Moderna" (in the same Callao Street), besides serving good, not so expensive dinners, offers a show almost every night (tango, flamenco, but also blues or Greek music) in a beautiful, fascinating set. Book early to get a good table!

Good hotel in a safe area
Emanuela Oct 3, 2009
Perfect location, in a safe area. Excellent breakfast, free internet and free gym and sauna. As for the latter, please note ... that the building is divided into two towers, and the gym is on the last floor of the FIRST tower. The hotel is very close to the beautiful Ateneo bookshop and the delicious Buenos Aires Grill restaurant (both on Santa Fe). Another place not to be missed is the bookshop AND restaurant Clasica y Moderna (in Callao street), which offers music (tango, flamenco and the like) almost every night in a fascinating setting.

If you wish to visit Caminito and La Boca from Recoleta, you can save a lot of money by using the public means of transportation, instead of a taxi: several buses will bring you directly to Caminito for less than 1 dollar!

Great Value!
College Junior Aug 29, 2009
Overall, I had a great experience at the Wilton. Upon check-in, the staff was extremely helpful, and service was available in ... very good English and Spanish. My reservation with Orbitz was recognized right away, and I continued chatting with the bellhop all the way up to my room and then some. He explained very well all the hotel's services and made me feel at home in my room. I particularly appreciated the easy-to-operate safe available in my room as one of the windows did not lock properly. However, I never felt unsafe. The hotel is in a great location, just off the corner of Santa Fe and Callao, two main avenues. Taxis were always readily available, and the fares for rides to Plaza de Mayo, Recoleta cemetary, and Teatro Colon were all inexpensive (10-15 pesos). I came and went as I pleased, and always felt very comfortable asking staff any questions I had. The room was always very clean, and everything worked well (except the one window). The lighting system in the room is operated by your room card, so upon entering the room you must place your card in a receptacle to turn on the lights. If you remove the card, the power to the room turns off, including the TV and air conditioning. I found this only slightly inconvenient, and overall I appreciated the conservation of energy.

To get a cab outside the Wilton, cross the street to the other side of Callao. Cabs can see you better and are in a much better position to stop. (You can still get cabs on the hotel side, but this is just a time-saver.) Callao is a good avenue to be picked up on as it moves quickly and heads in the direction of most major attractions in the city.

Buenos Aires Wilton Hotel
LA World Traveler Aug 3, 2009
This hotel is in a great location. It is a TWO star hotel at best. Obitz fraudulently advertises the hotel as having a gym ... and wifi. Both do not exist and Orbitz has to know that. The walls in the room are paperthin so if you have trouble sleeping the maids phone in the hallway will wake you up everyday at 8:00am and keep ringing all morning. Like it or not. The breakfast is plentiful but terrible. Eat somewhere else. The room had very old carpet and furnishings but the bathroom was very clean. At $75 per day, you get what you pay for. Just beware that what Orbitz advertises is a FRAUD. The photos were taken 20 years ago. Again, there is NO GYM AND NO WIFI...

Great Hotel, Great staff
CA Bets Jun 18, 2009
The location is great. The staff are very friendly. I would stay away from the rooms with views toward the front of the ... hotel. They are too noisy (and the staff recognizes it, my mom really wanted a view of the street). The breakfast is very nice. The same every morning but beats having to run out and find something to eat when the hotel serves the same thing you get at a cafe.

Great hotel and staff
Bill May 29, 2009
I was a first time visitor to Buenos Aires and was visiting my daughter who was doing a semester abroad. So I had my days to ... myself and went to clubs and restaurants in the evening with her. Buenos Aires is a big and modern city with plenty of things to do, particularly on the weekends when the street fairs in Recoleta or Boca neighborhoods are in full swing. I would compare Buenos Aires to a city like Milan...very urban, lots of night life, but not much in the way of culture. For that, you have to go outside of the city, and that requires an overnight trip that I didn't have time for. The Hotel Wilton is perfectly situated for just about everything you want to do in the city. I walked to Recoleta and to other neighborhoods, but getting to Boca and Plaza de Mayo required a taxi. The staff was very helpful and courteous, the rooms were spacious by European standards, the TV had many English language stations (with Spanish subtitles), the room had U.S.-compatible electricity plugs, and the breakfast was functional (a typical European style breakfast). My room had WIFI, but many of the rooms do not. The hotel does have two computers available in the lobby along with WIFI. The first room I had did not have WIFI, but the staff moved me when I asked for it. For the price, location and service, I don't think the Wilton can be beat. I really enjoyed my stay there and would recommend it to anyone. I travel internationally quite a bit and the Wilton was easily one of the best deals I've ever had.

Tango is the national passion (along with soccer, of course). We wanted to see a tango show, so the hotel staff recommended El Viejo Almancen, which is in the Boca neighborhood. An excellent choice! Authentic, entertaining, and much less expensive than many of the other alternatives I examined. The meal package, with wine, was also excellent. I mentioned to several locals that I went to El Viejo and they all said that it was the least touristy of the night tango shows and is something that they recommend to their friends. That was pretty high praise.

Heart of B.A. Shopping
Kristen Nov 26, 2008
The Wilton is in a very busy location on the corner of Santa Fe and Callao -- lots of shopping nearby, and not to far to ... Recoleta. Noise was not an issue for us, as our room was on the back side of the hotel. Breakfast is plentiful, and there's a friendly little bar next door for wine or beer and sandwiches. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially when it came to calling for a taxi. The one issue we had was when ordering a vodka martini in the hotel lounge. We got on shot of vodka and one shot of Martini & Rossi dry vermouth. We mixed it ourselves and went out for the next drink.

The Wilton is in a central location near the corner of Santa Fe and Callao. Near reasonable restaurants. Hotel breakfast is ... very good.
