Unbeatable charm
westie Nov 1, 2009
My daughter and I (Mom) were on a college tour in the South. Tulane was on our list. Mom has been to NOLA many times and ... has stayed in the French Qtr but never as nice, convienient and quiet as this! Our room was amazing (King Suite). The staff was great. We didn't eat bfst there but we did partake of the coffee which was excellent (Starbucks). I will definitely stay there again as my first choice.

Great location and a quaint hotel
Bill Sep 20, 2009
The location is ideal for the French Quarter. Our King room didn't have a tub--only a shower. The room smelled musty and ... was a bit small. The parking fee is exorbitant at $30 per day for a small SUV. The staff is very friendly, which was a plus. I wish I had complained at the time and asked for another room.

Try to save at least one day for the garden district and museums away from the French quarter (if that is where you are staying) and buy a streetcar pass that is good for the whole day ($5). It is easy to find stops convenient to all the attractions and the locals are very friendly.

Beautiful, intimate Old World feel
The Grants (grandma and great-aunt) Jul 27, 2009
The hotel and rooms were so beautiful and comfortable that we had to force ourselves to leave to explore the French Quarter. ... The only problem was that we couldn't check in on time. Check-in is at 2:00 PM and the room wasn't ready until almost 4:00 PM. That's a lot of time when you have just come in the airport and you are hot, tired, hungry, and want to get to your room to freshen up before you go eat. More bothersome than that, however, was the fact that the front desk clerk took a bit of an attitude with us when telling us our room wasn't ready yet. I guess we looked rather blank and she took it as looking at her like it was her fault! I wouldn't break a leg trying to get to the Continental breakfast, either. The internet pictures made it look like something really special. In reality, it is very, very basic. All in all, however, this was a great hotel and we would definitely return

Never in your life stay here!
Disgruntled guest Jul 8, 2009
We were there 3 days and each night we had a different room. The first room was so hot, we were brought a FAN to cool us ... off! The next room smelled of mildew and our linens were damp and moldy to the touch. Our third room was soooo hot that we had TWO fans put in! I was not compensated for the trouble and I was supposed to receive a call back and I'm still waiting on an apology. I paid almost $700 for 3 days and this is what I got. I thought you got what you paid for? Not in my case. I should have stayed in a Super 8! BTW, while I was checking out I noticed that EVERYONE had an issue.

We drove there, but did not need to use our car the whole 4 days we were there. We walked to everything except for one day ... when we bought a streetcar pass and went to the WW2& art museum Later that evening, we rode the St. Charles streetcar all the way to the end and back (beautiful mansions with the lights reflecting off the leaded glass doors). Be sure to see the Mardi Gras exhibit at the Presbytere on Jackson Square. I thought the aquarium was not that great, but I am from Florida so am used to Sea World, etc.. Also, it did not help that every preschool, summer camp class was there at the same time and very crowded! We enjoyed walking around the French Quarter, but Bourbon St. is a little tacky and the Hurricanes at Pat O's are really overrated (tasted like watered down Hawaiian Punch). We did not have a bad meal the whole time we were there and tried to stay away from the expensive places. Recommend the Acme Oyster House, the Gumbo Shop, Masperos, Cafe Du Monde, pralines from anywhere, and SnoBalls from the little stand in front of the Riverwalk shopping.

We prepaid for a delux room twin or king-size bed. I called about a week before to request two beds. When we arrived they had ... only one-bed rooms and no delux. The price stayed the same. They blamed Orbitz, saying that there are only so many delux rooms at the price and that Orbitz shouldn't have written our reservation in the way they did.

What a wonderful hotel
Cathy W Apr 22, 2009
After our 5th trip to New Orleans, this was by far the most pleasant of hotels. Designated as a Historic place by the ... Preservation Guild, it will meet your needs. A plus is that this entire hotel is smokefree! Start with a simple Continental breakfast in the courtyard by the pool, then step out to the fantastic streets of the French Quarter. You will be within walking distance to everything (don't forget your comfy tennis shoes). Later, wonderful hot showers, fresh cotton bathrobes, beautiful four poster reproduction antique beds... We were on the Street side, where you could hear some night life- but after busy days of Quarter activities, we fell fast asleep regardless.
Traveler type: Couples
Everything is nearby: The Riverwalk, beignets, The French Market, Art shops, wonderful restaurants. Please remember to pack comfortable shoes, as the French Quarter streets are all very old, uneven brick streets. Not very wheelchair or stroller friendly (but this is one case where it would be hard to change, as you would lose the flavor of the historic district's charm).

Need working airconditioning
George Sep 12, 2008
We were there between storms, Gustav and Ike, and the staff appeared tired. The air conditioning was not up to par. The ... room was warm, we complained to the desk and they said they would look into it. Nothing. Called again and talked to maintenance they said the room would only be 20 degrees cooler than outside, with temperatures in the mid 90's a room in a hotel such as the Bienville House only having rooms at 75 degrees was unacceptable. The heat and humidity outside was oppressive, not much better in the room. This was our first fall visit and too close to summer. Our previous stays were fine but they were in early spring when the air conditioning was not so important. On our last night after TWO calls, the shift changed and the request was not passed on, we were supplied with a fan that helped us to sleep. Three of our four nights were not up to par. At a hotel of this class I would think air conditioning would be a given.

Good hotel, but parking expensive
Gregory Sep 7, 2008
The hotel stay was nice. The bathroom was huge and beautiful, but the bedroom was a little cramped. Parking was expensive and ... confusing. It sometimes took the valets 30 minutes to get the car and they would tell you they would bring it to the front, but then it would not be there and you would have to walk around the side to get the car. Parking was really the only problem we had with the hotel.

Great hidden gem!
Tina Aug 9, 2008
The Bienville House is a wonderful place to stay in new Orleans. Classified as a boutique historic hotel, the amenities are ... superb and the value was outstanding. Located conveniently to the French Quarter and several fine restaurants, it is enough off the beaten path to find quiet and solace from the fracas of Bourbon. We checked in quickly and our room was ready early. Parking was a bit pricey, but worth it given that it was covered and protected. I will definitely go back!

Loved this hotel! Stayed here during a Tulane University visit and the good reviews were absolutely correct. Easy cab ride ... from airport ($28 + tip for 2 of us.) Location excellent w/in walking distance to everything including the street car which took us where we needed to go, river walk, IMAX, jaz clubs, excellent dining, Harrah's casino, etc. Nice, clean, safe area. Hotel staff was cordial, professional and went above and beyond. Room was clean and the a/c was nice and cold. Continental breakfast and cookies and lemonaid @ 3pm were nice touches. Will happily stay again when we visit our son!
