Excellent location. Room was very small for the class of the hotel, the bathroom too. They were both clean and the furniture ... was new with a nice LCD screen. The room was quiet except for the heating system that was very noisy. Staff was friendly.

Uncomfortable and needs work

Indie Traveler Nov 16, 2009

If there was some work done on this hotel, it could be a real gem. Pros: The location was super; 2 blocks from the Lancaster ... Gate tube station. Many pubs and shops close by. The room we had was large for London; "king" size bed, chair, table and wardrobe and plenty of floor space to put our luggage. The lobby is clean and nice. Cons: The "king" size bed was 2 twins stuck together and for a couple on vacation, not acceptable. The walls, rug and furniture seemed run-down, and not in a charming way. The ceiling in the bathroom was not finished--it was a little creepy wondering what could be lurking up there. The shower was unable to produce anything but hot (read: scalding) or cold (read: freezing) water so it was an adventure trying to have a warm shower. In addition, we had a front room with large windows and noise of people on the street at 2am woke us up. The free breakfast looked like a nice spread but the rolls had mold on them! I definitely would not stay here again.

Trip hints from our users

Money savers hint, Short Walk

Waitrose grocery, across Cromwell road from the hotel, was an excellent place to secure sandwiches, pastry, fruit, salads, and drinks. Save your money for a nice dinner, create a picnic lunch from the store, and eat it in one of the many parks near by, or in your room. Hint# 2- If you are going to be in London for any length of time, and plan to use the tube or bus, make sure you buy an Oyster Card for daily or weekly rate. This will save you huge amounts of money, and save hunting for change. The Oyster card will compute the lowest possible charge for the entire days use of public transport, and save you tens of pounds per day over single fares. Buy the card at any tube station.

--SFChiGuy, San Francisco CA Nov 9, 2009

Money savers hint

Buy an Oyster card for the London transit system. It's good on the Underground, buses and docklands railway.

The next block over is the Dehli Brasserie Indian restaurant. I eat here whenever I am in London. It is wonderful.

Great Hotel, Great Location

SFChiGuy Nov 9, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This modern, spotlessly clean hotel, had free wi-fi, friendly staff, very small but well appointed rooms, excellent bath, ... good air conditioning/heat, fluffy towels, and a perfect location. The hotel is across the street from the Glocester Tube station on the Picadilly Line (direct to Heathrow and central London). There is an excellent upscale supermarket (Waitrose) directly across the street, which was great for quick meals or snacks, and was near restaruants, fast food, cafe's, an excellent french bakery, and Starbucks. The excellent restaurants of Earls Court are a 12 minute walk, or one tube station away. Victoria and Albert, and the Natural History Museum are a short walk away, and Harrods Department Store, and many beautiful shops can be reached by the bus stopping in front of the hotel entrance. The central location means that you spend very little time getting to your days planed adventure, and you can return to your hotel for quick rest and head out again later, without losing a large part of your day traveling for an hour on the bus or tube. Having stayed three times in London this year (2009), I would rate this hotel very much on a par with the much higher priced business hotels in Paddington and Knightsbridge, and elsewhere around Hyde Park. I highly recommend this hotel for both leisure and business travelers

Clean, cheap, friendly

cab0419 Oct 9, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

I travel to London often for business and usually stay at one of the larger chain hotels near Hyde Park or Marble Arch. ... However for this trip I was looking for something with easier access from Heathrow and at low cost. At the Cromwell I was expecting a typical tourist hotel with small rooms. I did find the small rooms but was pleasantly surprised by the very clean and modern decor. The staff was very friendly. I had one small problem with the bathroom lighting which was quickly fixed as soon as I reported it. Since I was arriving in the early morning and had a mid-day meeting, I requested an early check-in by e-mail. My request was quickly acknowledged and the room was ready when I arrived. Although the Heathrow Express to Paddington is a convenient way to central london, the Picadilly tube line from Heathrow stops at Gloucester Road station which is only 1/2 block from the Cromwell. The free wireless internet access was also a plus. I highly recommend the Cromwell for business or personal travel.

Nice hotel, staff and location

London Visitor Oct 8, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

First I must say that I am in London often, so I understand that hotel rooms are small. Knowing this I somewhat disregarded ... other reviews complaining about the size of the rooms. However I must agree with them now that I have stayed here at the Cromwell. The staff was SUPER friendly. The rooms were new and refurbished and immaculately clean, and the location is wonderful. The free Wi-Fi was a huge plus for me. However, the room was so incredibly small that I could hardly move around to get ready in the mornings. Luckily, I was alone. I could not imagine more than one person trying to maneuver in there. I also had booked a double room. Thank goodness, because I cannot imagine how small a single would have been! Overall, the hotel was very nice. In fact I feel guilty for complaining about ANYTHING. I know that when you are in London, you do not spend much time in your room. However, it does not need to be so small that you cannot function. Unfortunately, my room was. Maybe they are not all so small. It may be worth asking about.

[...] Like: Location, shower, toilet, flat-screen tvDislike: Small room size, elevator wouldn't go all the way to the 5th ... floor, so it becomes difficult with luggage. They tried to slap a late check out fee without informing me or giving me any warnings, but I talked my way out of that. Make sure you call them the morning of your departure and request a late checkout, that's what saved me.

Small room, but very quaint..

First time European travelers Sep 30, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The Cromwell was a nice suprise, and conveniently located in the Kensington area. It's 2 minutes from the Gloucester station ... (metro), and very easy to find. Staff was very nice, and took care of everything we asked them to do. Room was clean, but small..who cares, you're there to sleep after sight seeing all day! Had wireless internet, though at times it was spotty at best from the 3rd floor. The lift didn't work half the time, so we had to take the stairs. Overall, a good standard place for base of operations. Awesome location, and very close to restaurants. Take the metro everywhere, it's easy, and worth every penny! Also, if you want to take a sightseeing bus, make sure and take "The Original" bus line. It dropped us everywhere we wanted to go, and was always there within 10 minutes of waiting. This was our first time in London, and we enjoyed coming back to the hotel at night. Don't expect romantic, but rather safe, conveniently located, comfortable, sleeping quarters.

If your there more than 3 days, try to take a tour to see Stonehenge. We didn't have time to do this, as it would've taken all day. There is a lot to see in London, and I would reccommend taking a sightseeing bus (remember "The Original" is the best tour) to go everywhere.

I am a frequent visitor of London and have become quite fussy about the hotels I stay in. This was my first stay at the Best ... Western and I loved every bit of it. The single room was tiny, but then again I knew what I was in for. The rooms are contemporary and clean; the bathroom modern and spotless. The Wifi internet access was good and the flat screen television worked perfectly. Friendly staff as well. I've found my favourite hotel in London and will definitely be staying there again.

Great location - clean rooms

London Enthusiast Jul 28, 2009

I picked this hotel because of the good price and proximity to the tube. I didn't even appreciate until getting to London ... that I was on 3 different tube lines at the Gloucester stop which was super convenient for everywhere I wanted to go. Staff was very friendly, the room was clean and had great AC. Wish the room had a tub, but that was no big deal. Elevator doesn't go to the fifth floor, so be aware if you have any mobility issues to make sure you are on an accessible floor. I would happily stay here again.

Clean and pleasant

Laura Oct 21, 2008

Would recommend to a friend!

Very convenient hotel; quick walk to the Underground station; the room, although on the small side, was pleasantly decorated ... and very clean. Also appreciated the free internet access. All around, I felt very comfortable at this hotel.

Too close for comfort

James Oct 14, 2008

Staff seemed friendly enough. Although what I thought was complimentary cup of coffee for my wife and me when we first ... arrived, turned out to be a $10 bill. The room was clean, but very, very small. There was barely a path around the bed to get to the toilet. To put a desk in there was just silly and pointless. Because of our luggage, my wife had to crawl over me to get out of bed (which actually was not that bad for me). I did like the location and the neighborhood of the hotel, but I thought, overall, that the cost of the room was a little too much, even for London, given how cramped and basic the room was.

Buy an Oyster card for the London transit system. It's good on the Underground, buses and docklands railway.

The next block over is the Dehli Brasserie Indian restaurant. I eat here whenever I am in London. It is wonderful.

Recreation/Attractions hint

If your there more than 3 days, try to take a tour to see Stonehenge. We didn't have time to do this, as it would've taken all day. There is a lot to see in London, and I would reccommend taking a sightseeing bus (remember "The Original" is the best tour) to go everywhere.

"Ask" is the name of the Italian restaurant directly across the street from the hotel and they had the best Italian food. A little pricy but worth it.

Definitely visit Paul's Salon de The kiddie corner to the hotel. Breakfast, lunch, or afternoon pick-up. Sublime.

Eat your breakfeast at Paul. You can see it from the hotel and they have the best pastries in town

Shopping hint, Long Walk

Harrods is right up the road from the hotel (as are the Natural History and V&A museums). A short walk by NYC standards, but probably a long walk for most.

buy a day pass for the Tube around the corner in the station for zones 1 and 2 only. You never need to travel further.
