The only real good thing about this hotel was the price and fron desk clerk. The room was located in the very back of the ... hotel and some young people were in a room right next to ours. They had a party and were noisy into the early morning. The room was small and dirty. The batroom had mold around the toilet and in the tub. Bed cover was stained to the point we just folded and asked it not be placed back on the bed.

Dining was O.K. for being off of a busy street.

We stayed there because it was close to the West Ashley bike & multuse trails that my husband had read about. I almost ... didn't book because one other guest had complained about Palmetto bugs. They were right. About bedtime, we saw a bug in the room about 3" long. We were unable to whack it. Front desk had no suggestions on how to exterminate it but moved us to another room. This is an older hotel that has been remodeled. Some mildew in the bathroom of our second room--otherwise pretty clean. Ask for a room in the main section of the hotel by the pool. The rooms are a bit larger & have two sinks. The staff was extra friendly & the grounds were very well maintained. Lots of pretty flowers. Even though it was cool outside, we enjoyed the pool. Last swim of Indian summer! The bike trail is a bit dangerous where it winds throug the 'hood. I think I saw a drug deal going down & a couple of teenagers tried to run us off the trail with a motorcycle. Still, I wouldn't be afraid to try it again. All in all, an interesting & different low cost motel that was a close drive to all that the Charleston area has to offer.

This hotel was close to downtown market and battery as well as the plantations. Our non=smoking room had a smoker next door ... and the smoke smell filtered into our room - this was a bit unplesant. He kept his room door open a lot. Good room for the price.

Charleytown Sep 21, 2009
Request and confirmation was for a king or queen bed. Staff on duty gave us a twin double bed room stating that they did not ... guarantee the type of bed requested when reservation was made through a third party. It will make me think twice when using Cheap Tickets (or any other on-line reservation service)to reserve a bed at ANY Best Western. Otherwise, stay was fine.

After checking in at the hotel, my friend asked me if everyone in Charleston was "this nice." The staff was super friendly ... and helpful. It seemed like the hotel had been newly remodeled. The rooms are quite spacious and very clean. We were really impressed with the whole place for the price. It is a good location, too. I used to live in Charleston and visit often. No other motel is better. Trust me!!!

First, there was the great rate on Orbitz. Then, the hotel allowed us to check in early (they actually happily did so!). The ... front desk personnel was fantastic, very friendly, very helpful. The location is perfect for access to downtown Charleston - less than 5 minutes. The rooms are very modern, very clean, newly renovated (2009). Could not have had a better experience! Not So Hot
Kristen Jul 29, 2009
I chose this hotel because it was in our price range and it had so many reviews saying how clean it was. I think those ... reviewers must have stayed at a different hotel! We spent less than five minutes in our room and saw 3 HUGE roaches! Disgusting! We promptly went to the front desk to tell them about the problem and request a different room and were told that the hotel was completely booked and a different room wasn't possible. The man at the front desk tried to give us a can of bug spray and send us on our way! I was in absolute shock! I told the man that was not acceptable and that he needed to find another hotel for us. He did find another hotel for us down the road and we had a very pleasant stay. Our vacation was wonderful after that but BEWARE the roaches and the terrible customer service!

Visited downtown every day. The hotel location was great! Out of the way, yet within minutes of all the tourist attractions. ... Great shower! Unheard of 10' deep pool with 2 windows beneath the waterline looking into the hot tub. The hot tub was out of order at the time of our visit, but how cool is it to have windows under water? Personnel at front desk and at free breakfast were fantastic. Couldn't help but leave a large tip.

This was a real money saver for us! All in all, we will stay at the Sweetgrass Inn on our next vacation in Charleston!

The Center Street Cafe/Kitchen in Folly Beach, South Carolina, was fantastic! For $8, southern-style lunches such as chicken fried steak and fried pork chops included three sides! There were good restaurants a short drive from the Best Western Sweetgrass Inn. Quite a few can be found right on Highway 17, some even a brief walk south of the hotel.
