An unexpected surprise!
hawaiigirl2009 Sep 9, 2009
We arrived very late at night and upon our arrival, the desk attendant greeted us and was very pleasant and helpful. If ... you're looking for a hotel in the middle of the action, this probably isn't the place for you. Once you walk inside the courtyard of the hotel, it's like a different world. Calm, quiet, and comfortable. Trees, a swing, and a gazebo await you. It's like a desert oasis! And the best thing is that it's easily accessible from Scottsdale Road and isn't far from the 101 in South Scottsdale. It only takes about 10 minutes to drive from the hotel to the SkyHarbor Airport terminals. The rooms at the hotel are a little dated, but the air conditioning was ice cold if we wanted it that way and the bathrooms have been recently updated with nice tile. The room was clean, homey, and comfortable. Housekeeping came daily to make the beds and remove our used towels and trash. The mattresses were the pillow top type and the down pillows made for a very comfortable night's sleep. The free Wi-Fi is a great feature as you can sit in your room or outside and send e-mails, do work, or browse the internet. The grounds were well maintained and the staff was very warm and made us feel right at home. The aviary was soothing and the birds are well cared for. Pool was clean and looked inviting. The restaurant on the grounds serves breakfast at reasonable prices with a good selection and helpful servers. I was truly impressed by this Best Western and definitely pleased with the value. Anytime we need to be in AZ, we will definitely stay at the Best Western Papago again.

There's the British Pub (bar & restaurant) in the shopping complex next to the hotel. You could walk there but being unfamiliar with the surroundings, it's probably a better bet to make the short drive. The food was good, plentiful, and reasonably priced. The staff there was really nice and made great suggestions on their menu offerings. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the Lounge at the BW Papago hosts a cocktail hour and also serves light appetizers.

Comfortable rooms, Beautiful grounds
Satisfied guest Aug 15, 2009
Stayed for 5 days, room slightly small for that length of time but clean and well maintained. Motel is older than 20yrs but ... grounds and rooms are well maintained. All rooms face inner courtyard with pool, gazebo and covered swing. There is a yard Chess Set with 2 foot size chess pieces. Grounds and pool were well maintained and beautiful. The court yard has an avairy filled with parakeets, finches and morning doves. Staff very friendly and helpful.Very restful. Close to shopping and many resturants on Scottsdale Blvd. There is guest laundry on site and when one dryer was found that did not work, the staff was quick to have the dryer repaired so the next time that it was needed, it was in working order.

Hotel is centrally located and many excellent restaurants and shopping areas are within a short drive. Hotel has breakfast restaurant on site until 10 AM each morning. Good breakfast menu selections.(not included in room price, but room price very reasonable)

Fantastic fun for the family!
Mom Jul 22, 2009
I loved the beautiful green courtyard view, usually we get stuck with parking lot views! We loved watching the birds and ... hearing them chirping in the courtyard. The pool was more perfect than any place I've ever stayed before, it was really WARM and clean!! Many other places we've stayed at had lots of bees and bugs flying around and floating in the pool, yours did not. The room was clean and comfortable, thank you for making this a great stay!! We loved that the room was sound proof and that there was a fridge included. The staff was VERY friendly! The only thing we would have liked to have in the room was a microwave. Everything else was perfect!!

This hotel has its own little paradise. There was a wonderful swing I could have sat in all day, just listening to the birds ... they keep out side. If you are stressd and need to relax their courtyard is the place to do it. It was very clean. The beds were not only there to give you a great nights sleep they looked so inviting. My husband forgot something in the room, they mail it to us right away after we notified them. A great location for family vacation. Afar cry from other hotels we have stayed in. Great value also.

Good hotel...kinda strange neighborhood
OnlyWayne Apr 22, 2009
The neighborhood is a little odd; for example, the parking lot we used shares space with a massage parlor, and there's a sign ... posted warning car thieves that a decoy car may be in the parking lot. We had mixed feelings about that! There's also a shopping center right next to the hotel grounds; it's more of a giant mini-mall, if that makes sense: No big retailers. We found a pub within a short walk that serves many dozen different specialty brews, although they do not brew them on the premises. The room was very clean and nicely appointed. You access the rooms via open walkways (not enclosed hallways) which all face inward toward a lovely lush, green courtyard. The restaurant was small but uncrowded, the food at breakfast (not included with room) was very good. Service the first morning was rather slow (which one might not mind if one was there basically to relax); when we finally got our food, we asked the server to process our credit card while we ate because we were ending up in a time crunch; the next morning, however, he expedited our service without a word from us!
Traveler type: Couples
There is a busy pub just a short walk away in the adjacent shopping mall -- you don't even cross a street. The desk clerk at the hotel said that any of the restaurants were good, except to avoid the chinese buffet -- we decided to not even ask what that was about!

It was a great value for the price and very relaxing. The room was supplied with a counter top refrigerator, coffee maker, ... iron, blow dryer, 2 bath robes, free wireless broadband, and cable TV. Marc Dec 22, 2008
This quiet and well kept facility is conveniently located for getting to Phoenix and the eastern communities. It was clean, ... quiet and comfortable, the only complaint was the somewhat small rooms for more than 2 persons. It had a mini fridge and coffee maker. Would have been nice to have a microwave. The on site restaurant is only open for breakfast, but there are plenty of options within walking distance. The rate makes this property an exceptional value.

It's comfortable. Good amenities. Internet service available without additional cost. Our room included a tiny refrigerator, ... ironing board, blow dryer, and coffee maker. Although the bathroom was a little outdated but it's clean. For the amount we paid for, it was more than we got in return. Location was close to historical place, Old Towne in Scottsdale, and also close to Phoenix Airport.
