Memphis roadtrip
Dan Oct 4, 2009
Overall- poor. Location of the hotel was excellent in relation to Beale Street and Rendevous. The good new stops there. Our ... room had a HORRIBLE smell. And into the second day of our visit to Memphis, the bathroom plumbing backed up. The coffee maker had no outlet, so coffee had to be made in the bathroom. The room we were put in was directly above alley, off of a very busy street, so sleep was difficult. Remote didn't work. The room was outdated, repairs slapped together ( plaster, paint, fixtures, etc. ). We were from out of town. And while we didn't expect the Ritz Carlton, we were sorely disappointed and disgusted with this room.

Wonderful staff, poor accomodations
Unhappy vacationer Sep 9, 2009
The staff was absolutely wonderful but unfortunately the accomodations were not very good. Hopefully it was due to the ... renovations that were in progress but we were only there for 3 nights and we had to ask to have our room changed every single night. The air conditioning in the first two rooms was almost non-existent and it was a very hot weekend. There is absolutely no air conditioning in the halls or elevators nor was there even any air circulating in the elevators via a fan. Hopefully this will change once the renovations are complete but I do not want to go back again to check it out. I give 5 stars to the wonderful staff but only one star for the accomodations.

JAC Sep 7, 2009
The location was great. Right across the street from the Redbirds park, but work was being done on part of the building, ... rooms were outdated, room over alley garage, so you heard cars being parked and horning everytime they took it to the garage. No ice machine working on our floor, had to go up to another floor. Noisy in hallways, no insulation.

Great hotel and location for the price
Bigh Sep 7, 2009
This was the second time I stayed at this hotel. It is located within walking distance to Beale Street, Main Street, Auto ... Zone Park, FedEx Forum, and many other Memphis attractions. I booked this hotel because I knew what I was getting. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I used the exercise room each day I was there. A pool would have been nice, but hey. There is no dining facility at this hotel but Denny's is just next door with an entrance from the hotel. The bathroom was in execellant condition, and my room was cleaned and stocked with clean, fresh towels every day. Bed was comfortable. The Benchmark suits my needs when I'm in Memphis, and I will continue to use it. You get your monies worth here.

If you plan to stay in the downtown area, there are many tours available from the hotel, so I would suggest taking a cab from the airport because a car is not really necessary, and parking cost $ 15 - $ 20 a day.

Mary Aug 16, 2009
A big group of friends and I decided to visit Memphis from Little Rock for the weekend. Price wasn't too bad considering it ... was Elvis week, unbeknownst to us. The linens were not the best and you could tell the hotel was very old, but it was only a few blocks from Beale Street. Not a bad place to go if you are only in Memphis to frequent the Beale street area. If you want a classy place to stay while on vacation, find another hotel. Also, parking was non-existent, so they had $15 a day valet parking.

TNT Aug 16, 2009
Great location, next to the famous Peabody Hotel and Beale St., but that was about it for me. Only one elevator worked and it ... felt like a heatwave everyewhere in the hotel, bedsides the room. Staff was friendly and our hotel did overlook the Redbirds Stadium, but I would not recommend it to anyone. If I ever go back I would stay at the Peabody, it really would not have been so much more, because I paid 30 buck extra for parking and it was only valet so of course you had to tip.

THE MAIN STREET TROLLEY
Casey Aug 12, 2009
THE reception area was nice. the elevator smelled like someone threw up in there even though it was clean. the bathroom sink ... was peeling place could use some paint, but it did appear to be clean The wifi wasn't working right. The peabody was nice except someone took a high dive off the roof during my stay across the street-no reflection on either place. I would say the overall value was good, the Denny's restaurant , attached, was good and the area around the hotel was clean and relatively free of 'street beggers' Fridays restaurant across the street was a positive

J.B. Aug 2, 2009
I'm of average male height (5'10") and had to take a shower on my knees because the head came out of the wall at my ... shoulders! The location is awesome for the price. It was just 3 friends and all we needed was a place to crash. Do not expect much from this place. Use one of the local parking garages ($6 maximum) 2 blocks away. la Aug 2, 2009
The Benchmark is in a great location about two blocks from Beale Street and across the street from Peabody Place. There's ... lots of foot traffic even into the evening so the area feels safe. Also, the service staff is very nice and very helpful. The rooms are a little dingy but nothing out of the ordinary. I think it simply reflects the fact that this is a somewhat older hotel. There aren't a lot of amenities but if you're a low maintenance traveler who would like to explore Memphis instead of spending lots of time at the hotel, this is a good place. I would stay here again.
