Much better than expected

I spent a lot of time in Amsterdam this summer. I stayed at a few different hotels, most were more expensive than the ... Bellvue. The Bellvue was by far the best one. The rooms were good sized for Amsterdam, very clean, the location is amazing. I am a young woman who stayed alone and I felt totally safe the whole time and the staff was friendly and caring. Definitely my fave hotel in Amsterdam

Do your souvenier shopping or gift shopping at the markets instead of the gift shops. You will get cooler gifts and spend a lot less money.

In spite of best effort at research & advance request we were given smallest "standard room." It turned out to be the size of ... a large walk-in closet. We've stayed in several european hotels before but this was the smallest. Moreover, the ceiling of the bathroom shower was slanted (with the pitch of the roof) so that you couldn't stand up straight) while showering. This room should be removed from the list of standard rooms and prospective guests should be warned.

I thought the hotel would be old - just the opposite. Recently rebuilt - only the front looks old. Rooms clean and modern ... with plasma TV, private bath. Yes I was right on the street with trams, but the low level occassional noise was not a problem. Staff very helpful (made a restaurant reservation on request) and the location (a block from Central Station) was great. Bed was two singles pushed together so might be a problem for couples. In room wireless internet included and has elevator. Breakfast right next door (not included in my package).

Much better than expected
