Good location, Unfriendly staff

This is indeed a beautiful, old hotel with all the trappings of a European hotel. It's location near all the Lincoln Park ... sites is great. The room we had, a suite, was a bit "weathered-looking" but was large and very reasonable. The housekeeping staff, bellmen, were very good. Our one complaint was the desk staff. This is a hotel that is only 20% hotel units. The rest are long term rentals and the staff seems to cater to those renters (there is no room service or tourist brochures, etc. but that was ok) We were treated rudely upon our early arrival before check and when we needed assistance with a housekeeping matter...the desk clerk would barely raise her head to acknowlege us. Having stayed at all sorts of hotels in the windy city, this one is special but the fun is taken away by this problem with customer service. Still, this is a beautiful old hotel, with an exquisite restaurant!

There's really a great deal of eating establisments to choose from, but this IS Chicago, so all you gotta do is take your pick! The Continental Breakfast inside the hotel is really good if you seek something simple and light. If you want something more hearty, just take a short stroll south down Clark Street until you come to Armitage-right on the corner is The Original Pancake House, and it is a GREAT place to indulge your gastronomical desires, and the prices are simply incredible!

A true gem of a landmark here in Lincoln Park, The majestic Belden-Stradford Hotel has first-class service, a staff that ... exemplifies professionalism to the next level, and comfortable, quiet rooms that make you feel right at home. A short walk across the street puts you into Lincoln Park Zoo as well as Lincoln Park, the Chicago Botanical Society, and the Chicago Historical Society. Of course, you can catch a bus, taxi, or cab from there and be downtown in a matter of minutes. The amenities are really good, with decent satellite TV, a great Continental Breakfast, and convient laundry/dry cleaning facilities and a fitness center all indside! The price is quite good as well, considering similar establisments costed nearly twice as much! An 11-day stay with a flight package (I was visiting from Japan) cost me only about $2550, but it's strogly advised you get your reservation in early. I am already planning a return trip and am looking forward to staying here again!

Cheryl Nov 4, 2009
This was our first time at this location but we really LOVED the spaciousness of the rooms. They were fantastic! We were ... not as familiar with the Lincoln Park area as downtown but will definitely return again. It is a terrific value for the location and was fun to be in a new spot! We were only in town for one evening to see a concert but the staff was most helpful in giving directions to the concert venue. We were just sorry that we were unable to take advantage of the lounge and restaurant; they were closed when we arrived in early afternoon. It would have been nice to have been able to stop in there prior to our concert. Maybe they were not open until later since this was mid-week. They were also closed when we returned from the concert.

[...]. Although I was travelling alone, I enjoyed a suite- as much space as I live in at home but with full service. The best ... continental breakfast I've ever seen is complimentary for guests. The location is terrific- nearby takeout from good restaurants a block away or walk over to a grocery store just a few blocks away and prepare your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen. I didn't have an opportunity to dine in the French restaurant on the site, but anyone who heard I was staying at the Belden-Stratford knew about it and raved so next time for sure. The staff was helpful and accomodating.....a pleasure for a weary traveller. CTA public transportation by bus is just a block away too so everything in this beautiful city is accessible via this well-run system.I'll be back, without a doubt.

For the money, this was a great room. The building is very nice when you walk in and the location is great if you're looking ... to spend time around the Lincoln Park area. The room was nice with a small kitchen area and plenty of room for a couple. The bed was a little hard, however, and the valet service was very poor, but everything else was great.

we stayed 4 nights at the hotel. great stay. very good service. received during this time 2 packages without any problems. ... rooms very clean and big. we had a queen bed standard room. in fact it had 1 livingroom with eating corner and computer corner and fantaqstic view over the lincoln park and lake michigan and the skyline including hancock center. 1bedroom with tv. 2 bathrooms. 1 inlcuding shower and jacuzzi. if you book this hotel you dont need a car at all. just buy a pass for cta and you can reach everything very fast.bus 151 which brings you to hancock center, sears tower, milenium park and michigan ave stops 1 min from the hotel. if you like walking you even do not need a bus pass. we walked on 1 day over 10 miles from milenium park and grant park to soldier field than to navy pier and hancock tower and from then home.forgot to mention free wireless internet in the room!lincoln park zoo just acrooss the street. fantastic city.fantastic stay
