Three Cheers for Banana Bay
Joyride Aug 9, 2009
Banana Bay was a delight...so peaceful. The views were enchanting, and the grounds were lush and tropical. We especially ... enjoyed all the exotic pets running around on the beach...including bunnies, doves, cats and iguanas. The relaxing atmosphere of this small resort was a welcome escape from the hussle and bussle of Key West. We also liked the location, which allowed us to rent bikes and scooters just across the street, allowing us to leave our car parked at the resort. Parking spots are expensive and hard to come by nowadays in this tourist packed city, but sightseeing by bike is loads of fun. We plan to stay here whenever we visit Key West!
Traveler type: Friends
Rent a scooter or bike and leave your car parked at the hotel. There are several rentals within a short walk and some will even deliver to your door. The narrow streets are hard for cars to manauver and parking is almost impossible. Bike trials are found all over the island, and it is a blast riding along the ocean or out on White's Pier. Also, bike racks are everywhere.

Not exactly what we expected....
SW Florida Aug 5, 2009
First of all, not exactly a "Resort". But probably the worst part of my stay was the check-in. The front desk attendant was ... not exactly polite nor was she in a good mood with me or anyone else waiting in the long check-in line. It all started when I was scolded by the front desk attendant for nearly letting her dog run out the door upon entering the office. From there it just went downhill. Ever run into someone who was having a really bad day...then when you wrap it up with them suddenly you feel like you are ALSO having a bad day? Thats what it felt like after I finished the check-in process. The rooms were clean but needed some updating and even a little work done. Some mildew stains here and there...nothing too serious. The property itself is very nice and has a great view and setting, however, its as if humans once visited LONG LONG AGO. It has a completely "abandoned" feel to it. The bar is empty, the pool is empty, nobody in the hot tub, nobody on the beach, nothing. It looks like a large celebration took place....about 5 years ago, and nobody came back! Whats more? To get to the on-sight gym you must walk through a large room that absolutely REEKS. The stench will tear away at your lungs if you stay there more than 10 seconds....apparently the room was flooded out and the thick musky funk hangs out strong. The best part is that in this very room is where your morning breakfast is set up!!! Nothing works better to stir the tastebuds!! Our group has been through a lot worst and the good time follows us everywhere and anywhere we go, so overall it was a pleasant stay and a good laugh. But keep in mind all the above since thats what you can expect at this "Resort".

Don't expect big name places. Outback Steakhouse is about the only big name in town. Other than that just lots of Bars and privately owned dining.

AlexisS Aug 3, 2009
I was not happy with this motel. I checked the previous ratings and it seemed to be OK. But when I drove up, I knew it was ... not going to be up to par. The room looked nice enough, but the bath/shower was old and had large divots in the fiberglass and no plug (not that I would even considered taking a bath). The door did not have a back-up lock and was open directly to the outside. When I went down to the pool that's when I got the shock of my life- a man stripped down naked and changed into his thong bathing suit on one side of the pool and a woman was topless sunbathing on the other. It was quiet though, but I was definately NOT impressed and would have been much happier paying a few extra dollars to get a B&B closer to town. The only way to town is via cab buy the way for about 10 dollars. You can take a bus or drive, but the bus schedule is crazy and parking is a nightmare.

Good enough, but really needs upgrades
Jamie Jul 27, 2009
Good location, very friendly staff, spacious rooms, and a wonderful view. Even though the room was clean, it felt dirty due ... to the "oldness" of it. Paint and wallpaper coming off, cigarette burns on the sink, etc. Didn't check out the breakfast as the meeting room was so overpowered by a mildew smell that it made you lose your appetite. I would stay here again, but not for an extended amount of time.

Claudia Jul 12, 2009
This hotel doesn't accept kids, and they say that on their webside, no kids under 16 without parents. I called them before, ... notifying that I was coming with 2 kids, 16, we are their parents. I talked to the manager that said that this was fine. When I showed up they didn't let us staying, saying that the policy is under 18! No way, I talked to the manager and there was on the website (now the prudently change it).

Adults-only, clothes-optional
Stan May 8, 2009
The hotel is older, but in good shape. Very clean, nice pool with a tiki bar and beach area on the bay. Continental ... breakfast was adequate for our needs. Wireless internet is limited to the breakfast room, not available in the rooms which would have been nice. The clientele seemed pretty diverse lifestyle-wise, and clothes are optional at the pool. That said, everyone was very nice, and we really enjoyed our stay.

Carla Apr 22, 2009
The hotel didn't allow children, that's a plus for older people, to have a place that's quiet. The pool & area were ... beautiful, along with the ocean being right there. The location was a bus ride from downtown, therefore no noise.
Traveler type: Couples
But the city bus is quick & cheap. Suggest you take a cab back afterwards.
