Bahia del Sol Peaceful Hideaway

O&K Vacation Jun 16, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We chose the Bahia del Sol for our honeymoon. The staff was very friendly and when we arrived we were escorted to our room (a ... standard) and discovered that the AC was broken. We were then upgraded to a deluxe suite with kitchenette at no extra charge. The place was extremely clean and the staff was friendly. The hotel was very empty at the beginning, which was perfect for us, the beach is lovely and quiet. It's great for people who want to "get away from it all" literally. The surrounding area is very rural, 2 restaurants within close walking distance and a few stores. It would probably not be good for people who like a lot of nightlife and clubbing, but if you are OK with sitting on the beach or soaking up the sun by the pool in solitude the place is paradise.

Courteous, knowledgeable, english-speaking staff, quiet location, "boutique" motel, individually prepared meals availiable ... till 10pm, good connections with local tour operators, limited meal options within walking distance--plenty with car rental, grounds immaculate, rooms large and well appointed, right on the ocean, beach could be beter maintained, prices comperable with upscale US properties (not a good "tight budget" option), about 6 hours round trip to Volcanoes, 4 hours to Palo Verde, excellent snorkeling tour,

great spring break getaway

Picky mimi Apr 22, 2009

I was very surprised at the location of the hotel, off the beaten path on Potrero beach this hotel was very good for a family ... vacation. You definitely needed a car to get around, htere si nothing around the hotel for miles. I would definitely not recommend it for singles or people looking for more activities or easy access to town, night life etc. The hotel staff was very kind but everything was overpriced, taxi ride, tours, outrageously expensive. I don't think it was worth the money. I would have prefered to stay in playa Tamarindo, Conchal or Flamingo. My grand-son and I spent a lot of time in the pool, driving around and enjoying the sunsets. This trip was unique, very restful, I only wish it was a better location.

Quiet and Comfortable

Eric Nov 30, 2008

Would recommend to a friend!

Great hotel; clean, quiet, safe, great attentative staff. Was there with my two boys and found it was a good fit for us; it ... was our homebase as we spent the majority of our time adventuring by car. I do have some criticisms though; restaurant didn't really have much in the way of local food, internet was almost non existent and the hotel didn't really do a very good job of informing us of the activities onsite, i.e. there was a yoga class that we missed out on because we were unaware of it and the sailing/jetskiing operation was a bit of a mystery.

Beautiful smaller scale resort

Susan Jul 15, 2007

Would recommend to a friend!

Bahia Del Sol was a lovely resort for those looking for a relaxing low key vacation. Our studio had two comfortable sized ... bedrooms each with a bathroom. It had a kitchen area and small livingroom area. The studio was spacious and clean. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. The resort is fairly secluded but the staff is very helpful in arranging transportation via taxi or all day tours. The tour we took was an absolute treasure and very reasonably priced (zipline, horseback riding, waterslide, mudbath/massage,hike and lunch all for $140 usd) The pool and landscaping at Bahia Del Sol was beautifully designed, lots of open air lounges to relax in. One criticism however was the hotel restaurant. The included breakfast was the exact same meal of fruit, toast, rice and eggs. Everyday! Lunch and dinner seemed was overpriced compared to other restaurants in nearby towns-we felt it was worth the walk. Overall I would and have highly recommended Bahia Del Sol to anyone looking for a nicely appointed hotel off the beaten path.

The breakfast that was included with the nightly rate was the same breakfast everyday. It seem s they could vary the menu for ... people staying multiple nights. Overall, I very nice stay. We had a 2 bedroom upstairs unit with full kitchen. It was spacious and comfortable with also a nice patio overlooking trees with ocean in the distance. Swim up bar was a lot of fun! Very pleasant pool and beach right next to each other. Staff was very friendly. We had appetizers at the hotel but no other food. It was a little pricey and not that great. There is a cafe at a small hotel 0ne block from here called La Chola with very good food and the best horchata I've ever had!

Bahia del Sol is located in slight north of Flamingo Beach. The beach at this hotel consists of dark sand. The hotel was ... very cute and quaint. The hotel staff is very nice and helpful. The food is good at the hotel but expensive. The atmosphere is great with all of the greenery. The rooms are dimly lit. We would have liked more lighting in the hotel room. Tamarindo, the city with most of the shops and eateries is about 30 min drive. Make sure to rent a car. There is a great beach about 1km north named La Penca that is very beautiful and secluded. Overall, we had a great stay at the hotel and were satisfied for the price. The hotel included breakfast daily.

Wonderful

If you're traveling to Costa Rica to get drunk and act like a typical 'ugly American' this is not the place for you. Go find ... a place where booze is cheap or free and there are dozens of others just like you. There are tons of such places and they call them all inclusives. They are closer to the gritty little towns where you can load up on bad souvenirs and spend countless hours chatting with other Americans about all of the 'fascinating' things you do back home, ocassionally using loud, bad Spanish to order more umbrella drinks. Yes, there are tons of hotels for people who want to see little and learn less. But the Bahia Del Sol is not such a place. It is a place for people who want to get away from the American experience -- far away -- and enjoy privacy and charm in a small hotel that has no soda machines, no treadmills or spin machines, no late night room service, and, if you're really lucky, no Americans other than you.

Dining hint, Short Walk

Castle Cafe & Bakery is across the street and the food was very reasonable and very good bakery items. Next door was another restaurant EL Cholo (I think) and their food was very good too. We also found a neighborhood grocery very near by where we bought some food and drinks.
