Axel Hotel Buenos Aires is located in San Telmo, where history, bohemian-chic and the port city's gay scene meet. Cradle of the tango, San Telmo's characteristic features are its antiques stores, bars and restaurants in remodeled 19th century houses. A few blocks away from Avenida 9 de Julio and the Casa Rosada, every weekend the flea market fill the picturesque Plaza Dorrego with movement, people and colour.Lately, San Telmo is starting to position itself as the epicenter of the gay movement and scene, due to its tireless and hedonist nightlife, bars, discos and restaurants loaded with style and glamour, fashion boutiques, literary cafes and the mystic sensuality of the tango that can still be felt in its streets. In the heart of San Telmo, the staff of the Axel Hotel Buenos Aires will update you on the latest in the gay scene, so that you do not miss a thing.

Great Value, Clean Property, Nice Staff

This hotel is located in the San Telmo section of B.A. which is the old part of town with cobble stone streets. Everywhere ... (including the Top 10 'must see' sites) are all 15 Pesos each way or less from the hotel. We stayed for 6 nights and found several places within walking distance to grab food. The hotel has an excellent bar but limited menu (this could be due to us being there off-season). Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel. We both really enjoyed ourselves.

Immediately after you arrive (we did it the same day), have the front desk book you the 3 hour 'city tour'. It'll cover the top 10 sites with a couple stops along the way. It was about $30 US each. We then spent the remaining week doubling back to the sites we found most interesting. If you're lucky, your tour guide will be a guy named [...]. He was really helpful in offering us safety tips, how-to tips and some really great photo shots.
