Great service but beware timeshares!
pokey Nov 9, 2009
The Mayan staff is excellent, warm and friendly. My only bad experience is how aggressively timeshares are pushed. Beware ... the airport--officials push for "opportunities"--keep walking and ignore buzzwords like [...] which are used to steer you towards something other than your actual [...] reservation. At the hotel, unless you're actually interested in a timeshare, skip the "hotel tour", ignore the rep's snide comments after you turn them down, then enjoy why you actually came.

By far the best vacation I have ever taken. The people are friendly, the hotel is spotless and the service amazing. The ... occupancy level was at 24% and it felt like a ghost town most of the time. This was nice, but it made me sad to know that a lot of people where probably out of a job, because so many Americans are afraid to vacation to Mexico. I felt completely safe the entire time there and would go back in a heartbeat if I could afford it!

Hard to beat value
Jay G Aug 16, 2009
My wife and I just got back from our honeymoon at the Aventura Spa Palace and we had a fantastic time. One thing I didn't ... realize when I booked is that the "Spa Palace" is connected to the "Cove Palace" on the same property. Kids from the Cove are not allowed to enter the Spa, but everyone else is free to enjoy both sides. This was a great surprise. It doubled the number of restaurants to try out and activities to do. I also missed the fact that their really is no beach to go walking on - which my wife likes to do. After we got there, she fell in love with the awesome cove area, protected from the large waves of the ocean. The water is clear and warm and made for great snorkeling. I am not much of a snorkeler, but the guide convinced us to try it and we were glad that we did - and it was free! The resturants were as good or better than the other all-inclusives I have done in Jamaica (Riu - Nigril and Sandals Ocho Rios) and at the Cancun Palaces. Great a-la-carte selections and good buffet's for breakfast and lunch. We're both beer snobs, but we knew what we were getting into.. I was fine with Dos Equis, but she reverted to more mixed drinks and would have preferred a better selection. I started drinking at about 10am everyday including about 5 Don Julio tequila shots and never had a hangover. The humid climate and the pool helps keep you hydrated.. Not to say some people we met didn't get them, but I guess they can't throttle it as much.. We met some great folks, who really added to our experience. I'm 31. The crowd in early August was mostly 24 to 36. Quite a few honeymooners. With the recession the way it is right now the place was only about 35% occupied. The staff were all friendly and worked hard for tips, but never expected them. The guys who run the entertainment on the poolside with volleyball, water polo, soccer, snorkeling, water aerobics.. were unbelievably entertaining and fun.

*They will offer you a sales pitch for spa credits. It's worth the time, but to buy into membership is definitely not a ... "deal." *The wait staff is wonderful, they work very hard. *Very, very hot and humid during July. *The spa is fabulous. *The bugs I experienced in the room I believe are due to the outside setting of the rooms and the fact that there is food everywhere. *Nightly shows are somewhat repetitive (4 of 7 included drum playing).
Traveler type: Friends
*Research transportation options; buying as part of package is outrageous; much cheaper options available. *Booking excursions through the hotel they coordinate everything for you, but their prices are much higher than booking on your own.

My wife and I traveled here for our honeymoon and had a great time. First class service, beautiful weather, beautiful ... resort, nice rooms, decent food, and right on the ocean. The only negative thing to say about the hotel is there isn't really a beach. It has kind of a rocky shore, but if that does not bother you then it is fine. We did get screwed by our terrible concierge. He was never really around and we were unable to go to the Tulum ruins. By the time we did find him to book the excursion it was full. That was our only real compliant.

Romantic & Relaxing Couples Vacation
Finder of an exquisite couples escape Apr 25, 2009
Without a real vacation in 10 years - we were a little nervous about how our trip would turn out and it was by far so much ... better than we had hoped. After booking the trip, I was happy to see how detailed the resort Web site was and set up a real-time Web chat with a hotel vacation planner who helped reserve just the right couples massage experience, then the Paradise Lobster Dinner Catamaran Cruise. Take advantage of scheduling a few things ahead of time, but make sure to leave lots of free time to play things by ear. Upon arrival, the staff continued to be helpful with scheduling the included Chichen-Itza tour, which is well worth the long drive. Prepare for a full day that includes a shopping trip and ends with a late lunch including authentic Mexican food. It was great trying food you don't find in the U.S. at any Mexican restaurant. We spent our free time relaxing at the resort's beautiful variety of pools, being served cocktails wherever we were sitting or wading, walking the gorgeous and peaceful landscaping around the resort, soaking in the in-room jacuzzi, etc. The variety of restaurants was nice and it was convenient catching the shuttle or a golf cart to the sister resort next door for additional food choices. Details, like the finger sandwiches and popcorn/nuts available as snacks in the lobby, were a nice touch. This is the perfect spot for couples looking for a beach getaway with no kids! Even the rooms were great, with high end bed linen and a great shower. We wished we would have taken advantage of the hammock on the terrace a bit more, it was another nice touch. We would highly recommend the Aventura Spa Resort and plan to return for another visit.

Paradise Sunset Lobster Dinner Catamaran Cruise was fabulous! The process was seamless and the experience was very romantic. Plan for a photo on the boat, which you can purchase afterward for about $12USD. Ours turned out to be one of the best photos we've ever taken together. When you return to the beach, you are greeted with champagne until you are sat at your individual tables for two. The dinner is served on the beach and it was delicious.

The best place to honeymoon!
KK Mar 3, 2009
My husband & I went to the Aventura for our Honeymoon - and we would 100% recommend this resort for anyone who really wants a ... little bit of everything at the most beautiful spot in Mexico. They had a huge variety of food to choose from - 7 restaurants I think, and a coffee & sweets bar, endless bars, and a few snack stations. (the staff was incredible - [...], one of the chefs, was at a few different restaurants when we were there, remembered us, and even offered to make us a take-out dessert plate all for ourselves!). We particularly liked the Fillet Mignon we had at the steakhouse - unforgettable! We loved the great entertainment (we loved meeting [...] :), [...] & the rest of the entertainment crew) such as casino night, shows, games, the party was endless if you wanted it to be! There were lots of activities - you could snorkel, just swim, play beach volleyball, pool volleyball, chess, beach boccie ball, billiards, rock climb, they even had an outdoor obstacle course & a 2km zen path. But if you wanted to just work on your tan, and do nothing but eat great made to order snacks and lounge with a great cocktail brought to you - you could do that as well! The spa was unforgettable! We had a 2 1/2 hour treatment that ended in a 80 minute couple's massage - my husband and I left in total bliss. We enjoyed our room (which had its own jet tub & stocked mini bar), and the room service was great. The place was a bit big - bit not all that overwhelming. One could cross from the north lobby to the south in about 5 minutes taking a leisurely stroll soaking in the beautiful scenery & wildlife. My husband & I want to go back for our 1st anniversary! We would highly recommend this resort to those who want a bit of everything - and like planning there own vacation...We went on a few excursions and were able to pick what/where & when we wanted. It was so unbelievable...My only complaint is that we only had a week to take it all in!
Traveler type: Couples
Go to the nightly shows they offer at the resort - each started at about 8 or 9, and were no more than an hour long - they were so much fun, and you met so many people. The entertainment crew and the entertainers they hire are world class - I'm a performer myself, and what they provide is truly memorable. Take advantage of it!

Very relaxing vacation....
Jan Dec 27, 2008
We were in the resort in the week of Christmas. We arrived a bit early at the resort but the receptionist found us a room ... that we have changed afterwards without a problem. Although we liked the room very much it could be a bit more functional. But nothing to worry about as spend most of the time outside. The weather was very good and we could enjoy every minute of it. No reservation was required for the restaurants so we could decide on the spot were to eat. By the way: the foot was very good in all of the 7 restaurants of the resort. Service was very good too, everywhere. All staff was very friendly and helpful with always a genuine smile on their lips. The only less agreable experience was the fact that we were asked to participe in a presentation. This turned out to be a sales meeting: staff members tried to sell us a kind of time share contract. But apart from that everything was just fine, including the tour we made to one of the Maya sites at 1 hour and a half from the resort. We are thinking of going back there next year.

Our stay at the Aventura Spa Palace was great, but as with any vacation there are things you wish could have been better. By ... far, the best part was no kids allowed. I didn't even think about children until we saw one on a tour. My main suggestion to others would be make sure you ask for what you want and be specific with requests. We asked for a Mayan Coffee, expecting the whole show, and only got the coffee....twice. The third time we learned to say we wanted the show, so make sure to tell them you want the show too. They treat you better, and you get extras in your room. Also, and as with any bar, make sure to ask for top shelf if you want it.

Beautiful resort
Michelle Oct 28, 2008
The Aventura Spa Palace was an amazing resort! We went there on our honeymoon on the recommendation of friends. The resort ... was beautiful, the food was excellent and the staff was very friendly and attentive. There were several different restaurants to try and they were all very good. We had a couples massage and it was very relaxing and included extra time in the hydrotherapy room. The only thing that was a negative was the beach area. We were aware of this prior to our visit though. It is a sheltered lagoon and the beach is more of a rough, gravely sand. It does have sea water and you can snorkel and kayak in the lagoon. There are also several very nice pools on the property.
