Not worth what we paid
Mom of a UCSB graduate Jun 14, 2009
We paid as much as we would for at least a four-star boutique hotel for what turned out to be a glorified Comfort Inn. There ... was a standard dry continental breakfast, a small room with no mini-bar. There was a list of restaurants which deliver (instead of anything like room service) but it was so old it had ads for Countrywide Home Loans, so not all the restaurants still existed. There wasn't even nice shower curtain. It was very bare-bones. The bed was comfortable, but the view was of a parking lot, and there was a sharp smell, like some kind of mildew, and the paint worn and the carpet in the common hallways was very stained. No premium channels on the TV, either. If I was paying what one pays at a Comfort Inn, it would not have bothered me, but this cost well over $400 a night. I would not recommend this to anyone, at this price.

Great Value
Jamie May 25, 2009
We were in town for a concert. While this location was not close to the Bowl, we found it very convenient, friendly & ... clean. The staff was very nice and the breakfast was decent. It is close to the water, pier, and good eats...all within walking distance. We would stay here again.

Not bad if the price is right
UCSB alumnae May 8, 2009
The hotel is definitely in a good location and reasonably nice for the price. I was a little leary when I pulled up as it ... looks like a mediocre motel. But the inside is surprisingly fresh with stylish decor. Continental breakfast was nice. Front desk clerk was unfriendly.

My husband and i stayed at Avania for 2 nights. The rooms were small but nice and had nice new flatscreen tvs. The location ... was GREAT. Walking distance from the beach, the wharf, State Street shopping, and a close drive to the Mission and other attractions. We enjoyed our stay.

Two Seniors Apr 22, 2009
Overall this was a great bargin and the view was great. Bathroom sink was clogged but it was fixed right away. Spa was ... broken so couldn't use. Staff was very friendly and is in a quiet part of town. Balcony was small but had two chairs so it worked out ok.
