Central location for great entertainment, meals, beach, sightseeing and not needing to get your car. Car valet service was ... quick when we needed it. Beach was across the beach. One other restaurant on the same street added the service charge after he added the taxes rather than before.

Not As Good As I'd Hoped

the hotel is right on ocean drive in the heart of south beach (which is great). we had a plane delay so we checked in very ... late (1030pm). we wanted to grab something to eat in a fish called wanda (the hotel restaurant) but was told the kitchen was closed. no problem we'll get a drink at the bar, tasted good but was $32.00 (18% tip automatically included).....a little pricey...we were upgraded to a room at the front of the hotel....the room was small, bathroom outdated, but hey, it's art deco! we walked outside and unlike all the other hotels on the strip the avalon wasn't lit up with neon (what's up with that???)....after having a great couple of hours bar hoppin' we went back to the room around 1am....the biggest complaint is that OCEAN DRIVE IS CROWDED, NOISY, AND VERY ROWDY UNTIL 5AM! didn't sleep well at all because of the noise...when we asked about late checkout the clerk said nope. also valet took forever to get car up to hotel for us....overall rate hotel 4 or 5 outta ten.....stay at the back of the hotel (and away from Ocean Drive). get to the restaurant early if you want to eat. don't expect late checkout (for free)...be patient while they get your car

Most hotels on South Beach have restaurants out front blasting music till all hours of the night serving people late night food. The Avalon has a more upscale restaurant that is not open as late which is nice if you want to sleep before 5am. We also reccommend ear plugs cause there is lots of street noise till at least 5am all along South Beach.

Great Miami Beach Location
txgeochick Sep 8, 2009
The hotel is simple and clean. No pool on site. The guest services are very friendly & helpful. Our room was smal but ... adequate. The breakfast is good with lots of options. We did have a problem with a extremely loud guest in the room above us throwing partes at 5am-8am one night but the hotel staff had curbed the problem by the next day & we didnt have any further problems. The location of this hotel is great - short walk to all bars & view of the beach.

The complimentary breakfast was ok. Not much of a variety. The toaster took a while to toast. The elevator was noisy and ... it felt like you were on a riding when it came to a stop. The hotel was not worth the price, you are just paying for the location.

Clean, Got the Job Done but NOT 4 stars!
Miami Newbie Aug 18, 2009
The hotel was just okay, definitely not 4 stars. I would say it is more of a 3 star hotel. We thought we needed to stay on ... Ocean Ave. to be near the beach and near all of the South Beach nightlife, but that was a bad assumption. Next time I go I will NOT stay in a hotel on Ocean Blvd. They are not worth the price.

It was nice. Nothing fancy. Staff was very nice. Room was cleaned daily and bed was comfortable. Great location right across ... from the beach and close to many restaurants/bars. Parking is not fun in South Beach, if you ante up for Valet here (25-30 a day) you always have a spot. My wife and I enjoyed it!

A Gem of a Getaway on the Ocean front
Mrs. M. May 26, 2009
The hotel location was supreme. From the front door to the beach in 10 seconds. Breakfast every morning was a bonus and you ... get to meet fellow travelers. It is clean, friendly, and remarkably sophisticated for the price. We dined nearby, partied nearby, and beached nearby. Staff was accomodating and the price was better than the other ocean front locales we've stayed in the past.

sherry Apr 23, 2009
upon my arrival i had to wait a good while at the front desk since there was only one desk receptionist. The room seemed ... stuffy and dated but for the price it would do. My room wasn't cleaned the first day since i was unaware you had to inform the front desk you wanted to room cleaned... weird. It was although in a great location so i spent very little time in the room.
