We went parasailing and deep sea fishing. Both were great. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We are thinking about making ... this an annual vacation location because it was that great! Our bed so so comfortable and the room was clean. We didn't bring our dive gear but will next time. It is a perfect place to dive.

This was my first time to Cozumel, and to an all-inclusive. I would love to go back, and would definitely go back to the ... Aura! Despite the lack of hot water for showers, all-around everything else was beyond my expectations. The staff was more than willing to make my stay memorable, and most enjoyable. The food was FABULOUS! (And, I am a vegetarian...so, that can be tricky. There are plenty of seafood options, salads, etc.)

Make sure to ask the concierge about making reservations at Mosaique (sp?), the asian restaurant on the other Wyndham property next door. There is no added cost to dine there but you must have reservations to eat there. The food is delicious!

While most tips I read said to negotiate the taxi fare upfront, we found that the fares were pretty much set by a schedule. However, you can save a few dollars by stating a fare a bit lower as in "It's $13 back to the Aura, correct?" (The scheduled fare was $15).

Exclusive Relaxation
Susanne & Carlos Aug 30, 2009
The hotel is very modern just as you see in the pictures. The room was very large with a sitting area and a table to eat at ... as well as a large bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower. We had a private pool on our roof which we enjoyed. We had an ocean view room which was just spectacular! We never went to the main pool since we had our private pool. The hotel is right on the beach. This is a place where you go to RELAX! It is a very serene place. They have wonderful spa services at the Wyndham next door. The hotel staff is friendly and they all spoke English very well (we have gone to other cities in Mexico where all the staff did not speak English so well so this was a plus for me). The food was very good and you can go eat in the restaurant when you wanted since you didn't need a reservation. They also have room service as well which was very good. The gym was nice but you want to go early in the day because it is on the same floor as one of the bars which is right outside the fitness area so if you don't mind people watching you work out then this is not an issue. You can take a taxi to and from the hotel for $24 for 2 people one way. We rented a car for the day to see the island and explore and it is a small island so we even went back to the hotel for lunch and to cool off before we went back out to explore the rest of the island. We would highly recommend this resort. We would love to go back!
Traveler type: Couples
You can take a taxi to and from the resort. You do not need to buy the transportation from orbitz if you are flying into cozumel. This turned out to be a hassle for us anyway. You need a voucher for your return trip and our travel rep gave us the run around instead of giving us our voucher on arrival. He did meet us at the airport in the end but we didn't need that aggravation on our vacation!

AWESOME Resort!!!
Mama B Aug 27, 2009
The staff at the Aura is phenomenal. They are all so friendly, and tried to make our stay relaxing and fun. The resort is ... amazing. It's clean, and there are many places to relax. The resort location on the beach is perfect. Great snorkeling right at the Aura Beach. Sand Dollar Sports located on the property was perfect for our diving needs. Food is tasty, and prepared fresh for you each meal. Only downside, is every once in a while you get the Mexico sewer gas smell. But that would be the same at any resort...it's Mexico. Highly recommend Aura. Will go back there again! If you have children, the Sabor next door looks great too. All in all, a 5 out of 5 vacation spot with all the options for fun right at your fingertips.
Traveler type: Couples
Sand Dollar Sports was so convenient for our diving needs. If you want to dive with another company, you can use the pier at the hotel to have pickups/dropoffs which is also very convenient. Great snorkeling. Able to book tours onsite. Also close to car or moped rentals. Shopping onsite as well.

Aura is for quiet couples in mid August
bergerandfries Aug 14, 2009
We needed a quiet, restful break from the frantic pace of life in Dallas. This resort scratched that itch perfectly in ... mid-August. VERY quiet, low occupancy, no wait times.... If you are used to 100F heat where you live, the daytime 90F and humidity of Cozumel in August won't bother you at all, and the evenings feel great.
Traveler type: Couples
During the off season, or at least the mid-August we were there, it was almost entirely couples. A few guys who were there to investigate the single scene in mid-August were very disappointed. Since we were a couple, no issue for us. During the peak season, it might not be so dead for singles.

nancyp Aug 8, 2009
We really enjoyed our stay at Aura. The setting was beautiful, the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful ... and the atmosphere was very upscale and relaxing. The food was very good, especially all the Mexican dishes. Everything was very fresh and beautifully presented. The dock out front provided easy access to all available water activities and the Sand Dollar sports people were really nice and helpful about setting up everything. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of snorkeling right off the dock, with many, many types of tropical fish. We also went out on the snorkeling boat trips and were very impressed with both the guides and what we were able to see on the reefs. The hotel pool area was especially beautiful and the service for food and drinks poolside was excellent. If you want a pampered and relaxing vacation, this hotel fits the bill.

The pools and lazy river were very clean, very nice, and very relaxing. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The beach was pretty and clean. The instructors at the Sandollar Dive Shop on the beach were so friendly and helpful. We will be back again.

Great place to do nothing for a week and feel wonderful about it. Our activities included sleeping in late, breakfast in bed ... or on the balcony every morning, a few hours by the pool, then maybe a nap. Afternoon snacks at the Hava Grill were a must, followed by a few more hours of lying around and swimming in the pool. Every night was capped off with a wonderful dinner and cocktails. The small atmosphere of the resort and wonderful service gave us the intimate and personal vacation we were looking for.

Ed K Jul 14, 2009
The hotel is immaculate. The staff were focused, well trained, very friendly and knowledgeable. The grounds, pool, ... facilities were perfect. Food at the restaurant was well prepared, presented, served. It was truly a great getaway for a couple and far enough from town to be quiet, relaxing. Even the taxi drivers were friendly and great to deal with. Only wished the hotels served one menu option of traditional mexican food at each meal (did this at breakfast). Go ahead and just learn how to say hello, good morning/afternoon/evening, thank you, etc...they truly appreciate it. Go have a great time with confidence. Ignore the sales people as you arrive at the airport...go directly to the transport counter and it was less than $20 for the two of us to the hotel with others in the van.

Snorkeling in the morning, when there is best sun/light, is best. The dolphin experience is worth it and the facilities there are perfect...then go snorkeling offshore...bring some food for the fish...they expect it...and then be prepared for LOTS of tropical fish as your new best friend! I dont suggest the sunset catamaran cruise/snorkeling...we found too much overcast afternoon for snorkeling and sunset.

A great place to lounge around in sun
Boho in paradise Jul 14, 2009
This is a great place to lounge around on the beach under the coconut trees, or floating in the ocean or great pool. ... Turquoize water and exotic fish as far as you can see. Good snorkeling (or diving), great luxurious setting, but the best was the spa: perfect massages, wonderful people, you feel really pampered. The food was good, but after 7 days, you do get bored with the repeating menus. Most people there were from the South (it's very close to Texas and the gulf states). The fire dancers one night on the beach were wonderful to watch!

This was an adult all-inclusive package Upon arrival there was a problem with our room door, they could not get it open and ... changed us to a different room. the room was very nice but wanted a king bed, this had the 2 beds and they did not have any available to change us to a king. The view was still awesome of the resort/pool and ocean Don't know if it was just timing or what, we were there the week before and left on 4th of July. The place was nearly empty that week. many more people came in on the 3rd. But it was nice having the whole resort nearly to yourself. We could enjoy the quiet. No real complaints on the food, in most cases it was great. There are only "2" locations to eat and the menu choices were rather limited. There was also the option of gong to indian fusion, when you had reservations. We did this twice and both times it was great, the fried banana/ice cream dessert was awesome. We originally signed up and paid for the "buggy" tour which , we found out at the last minute was no longer available. We changed off to the jeep tour which was a really good day. the staff was very good in responding to our needs with taxis or anything else.

Many people say to rent a scooter, but we decided to go for a jeep instead. Well worth it! These roads are very dangerous and I felt a lot more safe in a vehicle rather than a scooter. If you are going to see the mayan ruins, we went to Cedral, right next to the hotel, it wasn't what we were expecting....very small and so so. If you are going to go on tours to see certain attractions I suggest dishing out the extra cash to go all out with the packages they have available. Shopping was OK as well, it's more pricy on the beach next to the hotel compared to downtown. We were told by one of the employees to go into central downtown and that's where you will get authentic gifts for a lot less.
