It is a very nice hotel with smoking or non-smoking rooms and jacuzzis in some rooms. Ask for a room that does not overlook ... The Alameda then it should be quiet and restful. It is within walking distance to the HP Pavilion at San Jose Arena, the venue for the San Jose Sharks, the San Jose SaberCats and other events. It is a bit longer a walk or a quick taxi ride to downtown San Jose with restaurants and other events.

If you are in San Jose doing business downtown or going to a function at HP Pavilion, this is a great place to stay. It has ... large, clean rooms and a friendly staff. It was nice to come back to the room and fill the whirlpool tub and sit and relax. The only negative is that the complimentary dinner left something to be desired, but breakfast was great.

Short Stay in San Jose
Likes to Travel Sep 20, 2009
Our trip was taken to see the 'Pink' concert at the HP Pavilion and to visit San Francisco. This hotel was perfectly located ... 2 blocks from the concert venue. Since we had not planned on renting a car, it was very convenient to walk another block to the train station for the San Francisco day trip. There was also a bus stop just down from the hotel that allowed us to visit a huge shopping mall. The buffet lunch and dinner at the hotel was very good. Our rooms were clean and cool. I would visit again.

We went to the Gina carano vs cyborg fight at the hp pavilion and were looking for a good hotel at a reasonable price and ... came across the Arena hotel. This hotel turned out to be a wonderful surprise, the rooms were very big with a jacuzzi tub , great refrigerator and best of all it was walking distance from the hp pavilion so we saved on paying a twenty dollar parking fee or cab fare. The staff was great also very friendly

We chose this hotel for its location and price. And that's pretty much what we got. The jacuzzi that you "slip into" is ... better suited for a worn out athlete in the locker room. But it did work out for tired feet after walking about 6 blocks from downtown. I don't think I'll be pre-paying any more hotels, since this is the second time I've been given what seems to be leftover treatment.

You Get What You Pay For
Sksfan! Apr 22, 2009
This hotel is in a great location if you are going to a Sharks game or something else at the Arena. It is also very ... inexpensive. That said, you get what you pay for. Rooms are old and very dated. The entire floor smells like cigarette smoke, even though the smoking section is on the other side of the hotel. There was literally vomit on the wall in the vending/ice room - and wasn't completely cleaned up the entire time we were there. The second night we opted to "upgrade" to a suite. This time it was much more roomy and there was a kitchenette. However, we listened to a group of people next door loudly fighting until the wee hours of the morning. If cheap and Arena close is what is important - this is the place for you!

Wonderful Whirlpool Bathtub!
Julie Nov 16, 2008
The Arena Hotel was quite comfortable. For me, the very best part of this room was the whirlpool bathtub! I was in San Jose ... on business ... and I was squeaky clean the whole time! The bathtub was wonderful! The room was spacious enough. The bed was comfy. There was a desk at which to work -- along with WI-FI, so I was able to do all of the email and Internet work that I needed. There was a round table for eating. There was a small refrigerator as well as plates and utensils. One thing that was also very helpful for me was the Longs Drug Store next door. There were also several restaurants within walking distance. My destination each day was to the Convention Center, which was a bit of a taxi ride away ... but the whirlpool bathtub made it all worthwhile! I had the opportunity to switch over to one of the convention hotels close to the convention center (at the same price), but I decided that I preferred being at this comfy hotel ... with the great bath. There's nothing like having a nice, hot bath at the end of each day!

Awful and Overpriced
John Oct 20, 2008
The Arena Hotel is one of the worst hotels that I have ever stayed. The room smelled and was unnecessarily noisy, as there ... was a loud old kitchen-sized refrigerator in the room next to my bed and the old air conditioning unit was equally loud. The breakfast buffet table smelled like old grease; we walked out. The only reason we chose this hotel was that it is within walking distance of HP Pavilion, but there are no restaurants on that side of the Pavilion. We found out later that we could have stayed an equal distance from the Pavilion in downtown San Jose with lots of nice restaurants and several reasonably priced hotels for just a few dollars more.

The outside of the hotel is very nice and cute; the rooms need some updating - clean but simple. The hot breakfast was very ... good. We were never at the hotel when dinner was served. Overall, it was a good stay for the value, but the rooms do need to be updated some. I would stay again at this hotel.

Great find
Denise Jul 16, 2008
This hotel was a gem. There was a living room, kitchenette, nice-sized bedroom, and a bathroom with a jacuzzi tub (the ... jacuzzi worked nicely, but only accommodates one person comfortably - not a problem since I was traveling solo). Wireless internet worked great. The staff was very friendly. My only complaint is that they were refurbishing the hotel when I stayed there. Although they didn't make much noise, it was a bit messy in the hall. If you need to stop over in SJ for a bit, this is a great find. It's within walking distance to the HP Pavilion too.

Japantown isn't very big, but it's worth taking a look at if you need someplace to eat. There is also a market there called Santo's - it looks a bit rundown, but the deli food and the shave ice is good. Also try the Tofu Co. if you like tofu (fresh tofu is so much better than the prepackaged kind!).

Very close to the HP Pavilion. It would be a short drive, or a longish walk, but might be worth the walk what with cost and hassle of parking at the arena. There are also nice restaurents within walking distance and very, very nice restaurents a short drive away, and San Jose city nightlive, theater, etc. also a short drive away.
