Most amazing vacation ever !!
New fan of Amsterdam, Sherri Nov 18, 2009
Our five day stay was incredible. I loved the contemporary room decor. The staff was great and gave many suggestions about ... places to go and things to do. Snorkeling was amazing, as was the Sunset Cruise. The only negative was the comfort of the beds. Not so good but then we didn't spend much time in bed because I didn't want to miss much of the sunrises and sunsets. We've been to many of the Carribean Islands but Aruba was the highest on my list so far.

Visiting the Texas de Brazil restaurant is a must. I had two teenagers with me and the unlimited food was amazing. The best beef we've ever tasted and the selection was infinite. My family couldn't stop complimenting the waiters. It's a short drive from the hotel and well worth the trip.

This hotel was beautiful. The rooms were updated with travertine tile and vessel sinks. Both the interior and exterior of ... the property were spotless. They take very good care of the grounds. The pool was small but hey there was an ocean with white sand beaches only steps away. The restaurant and bar were also very nice. The whole hotel felt very romantic with the outdoor dining and open air bar. The bartender was great we sat talking with him for 3 hours one night. The staff at the front desk were also courteous and pleasant. We stayed here for 2 nights. We had stayed the previous week next door at the La Cabana and were not happy with the hotel gounds or the service there. Overall I highly suggest the Amsterdam Manor it is a diamond in the rough. Amsterdam Manor is also mentioned in the Frommers guide as a "find".

Best Friends... Oct 6, 2009
I went to Aruba with two other friends and it was our first time there! We're all in our mid to late 20's. The hotel ... upgraded us from a studio to a beautiful one bedroom suite when we got there which started our vacation on a VERY NICE note! I think this is because the room was a little delayed being ready but an hour wait was WELL worth the room they gave us. The hotel is conveniently located between downtown and the high rise hotel area. $8-$12 in either direction and between 3 people it wasn't too expensive. Although a small road separated the beach from the hotel, it was hardly even noticed. Seemed more like a bike path. It was also vert convenient for the bar to be on the beach, we ordered food and drinks galore and it wasn't expensive at all. Pretty affordable. We were there in October (low-season) so it was pretty quiet which we LOVED! The staff was amazing! They were very very helpful, if you go, you have to ask for [...]!!! We became friends with her and she's like the local party animal, don't let her age fool you because she can outparty the craziest of the party animals. She made our trip even more spectacular. Anyway, all in all the hotel was amazing and it definitely contributed to the BEST VACATION the three of us ever had! Love Aruba and definitely going back to Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort if we do!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Amsterdam Manor. This was our first trip to Aruba and we will definitely return and ... stay at Amsterdam Manor. The resort is quiet and more couple oriented than a lot of the other resorts we walked through. The beach is gorgeous. The friendly staff at Amsterdam Manor is what makes the place special. This is the perfect place to just relax and enjoy being alive.

This trip was great! good location, bus stop right out front, beautiful beach. staff was friendly but three times when we ... called the front desk for coffee filters, service or matches for our stove that wasnt working they would forget to send someone. They always seemed to be very busy, almost short handed but always tried to be helpful.. Our room was the standard studio, smaller than it appears in pictures but was fine for our stay.. Overall it was a wonderful vacation, Aruba is truly one happy island and i will be back!

My husband and I loved AMB. We would recommend a room on 2nd or 3rd floor- 1st floor rooms didn't seem to have much privacy, ... as there are always people hanging out near the pool and restaurant. The beach is georgeous, way better that the one in the high rise area. There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel which takes you downtown where all restaurants and casinos are. We will definitely be back!!!

Great for the price!
OSUaviator Jul 19, 2009
I think if you are traveling to Aruba, you should consider this hotel. Don't think that because it is cheaper you'll be ... getting less. PROS: 1. Great Beach. This is really the best thing about this hotel. The beach is very nice and has approximately ten times fewer people on it than the highrise hotels. We met a repeat-visiting family that changed their trip dates to get this hotel due to the uncrowded beach (and other features). No issue in finding available 'palapas' or lounge chairs, there is also a convenient beach restaurant and bar for lunch in the shade on the beach (that you can effortlessly charge to your room). The water is picturesque and comfortable for swimming and a vendor for water sports is on the beach. 2. Impressive rooms. Our group had three of the most basic rooms and one nicer room. The nice room was palatial, but even the basic rooms were of a decent size, had a nicely appointed kitchenette (with microwave, blender, toaster, coffee maker, fridge, stove, sink, etc.) and a nice bathroom. The overall look of the hotel is nice with a convenient layout. 3. Close proximity to the beach. The hotel rooms are separated from the beach by a small road, but I guarantee that it will take you less time to get to the beach than if you were in a highrise hotel. 4. Staff. The hotel staff were friendly and helped us make calls to confirm reservations made prior to our arrival and made reservations for us as well. CONS: 1. Passions beach restaurant. This restaurant, though romantic at night (feet in the sand), was disappointing. The prices were very expensive, food quality was poor and service was slow. All our dishes (party of 6)were disappointing, and we were all given identical side dishes. My fish dish was overly salty, contained bones and was tough. In general the restaurants at the hotel all share the same kitchen and none of our meals at mangos or passions were great. If you plan on dining solely at your hotel, perhaps the highrise hotel are more appropriate for you. We had a rental car and traveled about to various restaurants and cooked in our kitchenettes. 2. Some cut corners. We found that a few of things in the room and about the hotel were slightly sub-par like a loose faucet fixture, hard mattresses (one couple mentioned this and was given a thick mattress pad), curtains that kept falling down, loud/rattling air-conditioning fan, etc (however this trend is evident throughout Aruba). All-in-all, this was an excellent hotel. Four late-twenty-something couples went down in our party and we all loved the hotel and would definitely rebook here if we were to return to Aruba.
Traveler type: Couples
Avoid restaurants in the strip near the highrise hotels, and at AMBR itself. We liked: Gostoso (great food, good price), flying fishbone (good food, but expensive, great atmosphere), Sawasdee Thai (good food, good price).

Hotel Decent, Island Way Overated !
Good Deal Jul 11, 2009
Hotel is a decent place for the price. I thought the beach was a bit vanilla but my biggest criticism is that there was no ... privacy as soon as you walk out your room door. You are right on top of everyone at the restaurant or the pool. The interior room ammenities were quite good however as is the hotel value for the money. Aruba is way overated however compared to most other carribean islands we have been to. It was cloudy 70% of the time and it's limited beach coastline is marred by several unsightly oil refineries. St. Maartin or St. Croix are where I wish we had gone to instead.

Try the 4 wheeling in the islands interior, that was the highlight of our vacation.

Relaxing Trip to Aruba
Anonymous Jun 30, 2009
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Amsterdam Manor Beach in June 2009. The location of the hotel is fantastic - right across ... the street from the beach, and this stretch of beach was never over-crowded. The staff was very friendly, and our room was HUGE, much bigger than we were expecting. The only negative was that the beach is right next to the road, so sometimes it was a bit noisy, but never enough to be truly problematic. Overall, we had a great experience and were glad we chose the Amsterdam Manor Beach over the chain hotels.

Some good things - some bad

We had a more pleasant beach experience at the Manchebo Beach area. Did not like having to walk across a busy road to have ... beach access. The road traffic takes away from a relaxing beach environment. I thought the rooms were very nice and I appreciated the kitchen (saved us some money). This next comment is not meant toward the staff (who are very friendly and helpful) but toward the Dutch guests staying there. What's with the staring and the attitude???? My wife and I felt extremely unwelcome by these people. We are on vacation just like you - why the rude behavior? Maybe I just don't understand your culture. Whatever. Staying at Manchebo next year.

The 1 bedroom suite was great. We had a well-stocked kitchen, a living room with a flat screen tv, a bathroom with a shower ... (no tub), a king-sized bed and a 2nd flat screen tv in the bedroom, a table for 2 in the kitchen and a dining room table for 6. The suite had ceiling fans and being on the 1st floor, indoors was always cool and comfortable. The free internet, hotel personnel, convenience to bus, large parking area, convenience to beach and well-maintained accommodations were perfect. The hotel provides shampoo/rinse, hairdryer, lotion, paper towels, dish detergent, unlimited ice and beach towels (that can be used off premises). We attended the BBQ - the food was very good. We enjoyed the dinner rolls so much that we got some to go with our dinner another night. The drinks at the beach bar were expensive (non-happy hr) - $8.25 US for an 8-oz mudslide. The bed was hard but the hotel added extra padding which made it more comfortable.
Traveler type: Couples
Liquor and groceries are expensive! We brought our coffee products with us (ex coffeemate, coffee, equal). A small container of coffeemate was more than $5 florins. I brought a large plastic bottle of Kahula mudslide with me (cost $18 at home). My husband mixed it with ice in the blender and made me frozen mudslides. I know that saved us a bunch. Also, it was good that I brought it with me because I could not find it there. We thought Ling & Sons grocery was best because the prices are located on the shelves and you can price compare more easily. We rented from Royal and would recommend them, they were great to work with. The tourist flea market (open on Saturdays & Sundays) had good prices on gifts.

We loved the more intimate environment of the Amsterdam Manor verses the high energy area around the high rise hotels on ... Aruba. However, the Amsterdam Manor allowed easy access when we wanted more action to any place on the island. We had great access virtually right outside our door to a quiet beach where we could get food and drink during the day and wonderful on-the-beach dining with entertainment in the evening. ALL the staff, from the top down, were warm, welcoming and provided us with great service.

Amsterdam Manor was definately one of the nicer low rise hotels. It's a little closer to the high rise hotel area, where a ... lot of the Americanized restaurants are (benihannas, tgif, texas de brazil), and a bus ride away from the downtown area. We went to the downtown area one night and found it kind of shady and desolate, so please leave that area for day time/early evening activites. Amsterdam Manor was right by one of the islands best beaches, Eagle Beach. If you travel up by the lighthouse, Arashi Beach is good for waves and snorkeling. The bus is right across the street from Amsterdam and is $2.40 round trip. You don't necessarily have to rent a car, but please be aware that the on site "store" isn't much of one and is way over priced. We went to our neighbor hotel's store and that was also way overpriced; so a car may be helpful for shopping trips. The room was decent, nothing fancy, nice size. The hotel is in great shape and the on-site restaurants, Mangos (breakfast is good there)and Passions (romantic sunset dinner), were pretty nice. All in all, it was a very plesant, restful vacation and I can understand why people go multiple times. :)

The location was fine. Their beach is great. It does seem like alot of non guests use this beach and even use the palapas ... and lounge chairs. Think there is a fee involved. I will remember that the next time we visit the island.Beach bar staff not very friendly. [...] on the beach seemed nice. The room was on the small side and would have liked a fridge that was larger. Small coffee maker.Very warm air condioning. Think it must have been preset because changing the thermostat didn't do a thing. Just blew warm to cool air. The walk up the 2 flights of stairs was a little tough. They asked if we needed help and we said no but had no idea what we were in for. The front desk staff was fine. When we did check in (at noon) they said our room was empty but needed to be cleaned and we could take towels and use the beach. That was nice.We did have a nice lunch at the beach.Would I stay again? Probably not. We have been going to Aruba for 13yrs now and had always wondered about Amsterdam Manor and now we know!I guess I would recommend but explain what we experienced.Dawn

The Amsterdam Manor Hotel is the best place to stay in Aruba. Eagle Beach is the best beach on the island and its right ... across the road. Good surf and soft wide sandy beach. The hotel has personality with a European Riveria type feel. Rooms were large and comfortable and high ceilings and balconies in the 2nd floor rooms make up for a lack of windows. Excellent food and service that was friendly and efficient. A very relaxing stay can be had here.

For romantic dining, its worth renting a vehicle to go south to Flying Fishbone for amazing seafood right on the sandy lagoon or north for rich Italian food on the terrace by the California lighthouse. For a post-apocalyptic, Mad Max nightmare, go for a swim in the shadow of the Valero oil refinery at Baby Beach!
