The Ambassador is a hotel rich in history. This pre-civil war building dates back to 1854, and was a coffee warehouse.
Harrah's Casino located across the street one block from the hotel.
A determined effort was made when renovating the hotel to retain the look and feel of New Orleans and this area. This included keeping the wood floors, exposed brick walls and wood beams. The National Park service has certified the restoration. A required $7.95 communication fee is charged to each reservation that provides in room Internet access, unlimited long distance calls, unlimited access to 24 hour Fitness Center, and usage as well as insurance up to $20,000.00 on in room digital safes. Renovations were done in 2005 on guestrooms and lobby as well as construction of a new restaurant.
Valet parking $26.00 per night. Special event parking $40.00 per night.

the hotel is very beautiful but it needs work. the floors throughout the hotel are very uneven and is dangerous for a ... handicapped person who is unaware of this. the bed was broken ib one of the three rooms we were changed to. one of the rooms was at street level and was very noisy with people sitting right outside of the window. the room had no towels in it and when we called for some the clerk never came to bring them, we had to go get them.

The WORST hotel in New Orleans
Queen Nov 16, 2009
We checked in at 3:30PM and checked out at 4PM same day after seeing this "laugh" of a room....rat hole in the cornor of ... room...beds that apparently were in this hotel in 1854!...dirty sheets w/dead bugs...glass doors to rooms with blinds over them...furnishings that looked like castoffs from some bad 40's movie and OLD ugly wood floors(NO CARPET IN ROOMS)!! Bath looked like it came out of some horrible nightmare. We lost our money but would have paid double to get out...DON'T EVER USE THIS HOTEL...SHOULD BE CLOSED AND DEMOLISHED. It is a travesty that this kind of trashy hotel is allowed to dupe unaware travelers. Please Please Please NEVER book a room there. There are plently of hotels at around the same price and much better condition. DO NOT BE DUPED.

Wife of a tightwad:) Nov 10, 2009
We enjoyed our stay. It was comfortable and convenient. It reminded me of the old New Orleans style hotel with updated ... decor. I prefer the wood floors to carpet.....carpet in a hotel always seems so dirty and grungy, it is disgusting to walk on it with bare feet. The rooms were a little small, but we were only in the room at night to watch a little TV and sleep, so it was perfect. The only complaint I had was at check-out on Sunday morning when everyone was checking out at the same time, they didn't have more staff getting cars. Seems like they could hire extra staff for those few hours who could work mostly off of tips than anything else. Thank you.

This hotel is convenient for dining and shopping, but also less expensive than most and a great place to stay if you just want a quiet place to get away.

Don't Stay at Ambassador Guy Oct 27, 2009
We checked into what we thought were rooms similar to the rooms we saw on the website but turned out to be interior rooms ... with no windows. Once inside we discovered probably the dirtiest most unsanitary bathrooms that i have ever seen. The toilet and sink were stained and the grout on the tile was so dirty it had turned black. The shower had a cloth curtain that was so stained you could hardly tell what color it was. Beyond this, before turning out the lights to go to sleep, we discovered a mouse walking on top our luggage. Needless to say i will never stay here again and would recommend it to no one.

Overall the stay at the Ambassador Hotel served its purpose, meaning I had somewhere to sleep at night. However, the room was ... very dingy looking and didn't feel clean and fresh like other hotels I've stayed in. The hotel staff was very friendly and the location was superb. The old saying " you get what you pay for" fits this hotel nicely.

This hotel is in a great location for the convention center, and within walking distance to many great restaurants. However, ... the building I was in had no outside windows, which made the room very dark and dreary. I could not get the AC to make the room cool enough, even though the hallway was quite comfortable. It also could have been cleaner...

We had a very bad experience. My daughter was taking a bath when all of a sudden a tile from the ceiling fell on her head. ... We had to take her to the local hospital. The hotel was not concern about her well being. The manager for some reason was not around to talk to us. This was very dissapointing. The had to be moved to another room and no compensation was considered. Thishotel was recommended to us but we probably will not recommendit to no one we know.

Since the Ambassador Hotel is a renovated coffee warehouse, it is very different from a chain hotel. There are hardwood ... floors, and unusual architectural features. The last room in which I stayed had a nice king size bed and a separate sitting room. The price is also extremely nice for New Orleans.

Glenn Oct 9, 2008
The hotel was a good value for the money in that it was in a convenient location and felt very safe. Very short walk to the ... casino. Also an easy walk to the French Quarter. The room was spacious. In fact it was actually a mini suite in that it had a separate sitting area with television, sofa and desk. The bedroom had a comfortable bed and television with nice bathroom. My two negatives are that we could hear the person above us walking around on the wooden floors - from bedroom to bathroom and back again - knew their every move in the morning. Also, there was no window in the room. The building is a restored warehouse type of building with charm but with those two drawbacks. The room was spacious and the hotel was charming. Definitely for the money and location it is a great value.

Richard Oct 9, 2008
I realize the Ambassador is an old, historic hotel. Unfortunately I couldn't get around the fact that the place was, in a ... word, a dump. Furniture old and worn. Bedsheets had dried bloodstains. Bathroom sorta OK. They gave me a mandatory $6.95 charge for internet and cable--neither worked in my room. Doors had glass six foot high lookthroughs: curtains, of course, but curtains can't stop and determined intruder. Food was good but service lousy (the girls' lowcut outfits did NOT make up for the extra slow service). Not again. Not next time.
