YOU MUST GET THE AN OCEANFRONT ROOM. The first room we were placed in smelled of cigarettes (even though I had requested non ... smoking) and mildew and mold. Once we upgraded to an oceanfront room in the new building everything was considerably better. The food and drinks are good. The staff are very nice but do not expect them to rush for you. Overall my stay was good. I felt it was a little overpriced for what you get, but it is more expensive to go to Barbados than many other places. There is no night life at the hotel itself. Mostly families and middle aged couples. The hotel is close to the Saint Lawrence Gap and there are some bar and such there.

Make Sure you go to the Oystins Fish Fry on Friday night. Find Uncle Georges or Pats Place. Order some of the best fish you will ever have. Grilled Swordfish or Flying Fish are excellent. The other must do is the Catamaran tours where you snorkel with the sea turtles. Was probably the highlight of the Trip. Bring underwater camera.

Overall, very good

Second week of August. Had a tropical depression fly over the island, which caused it to rain for a few days straight. If you ... can't go to the beach here, there's not much to do. Rooms were good - not plush by any means, but comfortable. Why spend more time in the room than necessary? The beach is quite literally steps away! The ability to go to any of the other resorts is great, but for an active couple who like their space, Casuarina Beach is far better than the Spa or Village. Casuarina has by far the best beach of the Almond Resorts, and it remained uncrowded for the duration of our stay. Book different restaurants at all of the resorts and you won't get tired of the menu. If you go with the buffet every night, it'll be miserable.

A little bit of paradise

Almond Casuarina is on Dover Beach at the South end of the island. The resort gardens are beautiful. The food is ... excellent. The staff are friendly, courteous and helpful. Bajans have a laid-back attitude, so guests have to relax and realize that things will get done eventually and appointments and reservations are quite often off schedule. Traffic on the island is crowded (Barbados has the 2nd highest car per person ratio in the world). Off resort activities are expensive but definitely worth doing. The current is fairly strong on the South beaches. Much calmer on the West of the island. We spent 2 days at Almond Village Resort on the West for better water sports. Almond guests can shuttle for free between the 3 resorts on the island.

Overpriced, disappointing...
Shelly Apr 22, 2009
While the gardens, pools and beach were beautiful, the lack of on-site amenities, limited dining options and poor service in ... the restaurants marred what was supposed to be a spring getaway for my family - so much so that I'd never visit again. And the requirement of making dinner reservations and only one day in advance was a pain in the [*]... (at other resorts, there's always at least on buffet-type restaurant) that's why I booked an all-inclusive resort - to not have to worry about those details! On the plus side, I did enjoy the Rum and History tour, and the island tour.
