For Singapore, I believe the Albert Court hotel is a good value for a hotel. It's location is fairly convenient to the Bugis ... MRT and one appreciates the smiles from the hotel staff one encounters.

The hotel is located near Little India which means you have to take a train to the waterfront or downtown. It is a nice and ... clean hotel with nothing missing for a short stay.
