Wonderful Honeymoon
Vacation NC Oct 19, 2009
From the moment we arrived we just knew this was paradise. First a bit about we didnt want while on honeymoon... We didnt ... want congested, busy, dirty, or too casual. This one reason we picked the french side of island. What we hoped for and received was outstanding service, privacy, great local dining, and [...] (our almost personal beach attendant.) This was the one request my wife was adamant for. The ability to wake up, goto the beach, have reserved beach chairs, an umbrella for shade and the perfect drink to go with the perfect view. Then there was the beach, sand so soft (no shells or broken parts,) just beach sand as it is meant to be. Overall our experience was a wonderful one. The restaurants on the property, each offered their own styles and flavors, we tried as many as we could with no complaints just lil smiles with our taste buds. The room, ours with ocean view, clean and spacious, everyday. Would we recommend, Simply Yes !

This is a plus we didnt expect. Over 6 restaurants just behind the hotel property in reality you dont have to drive anywhere. Convience store and ice cream shoppe complete the experience.

Very Nice!
St. Martin Honeymooner Sep 2, 2009
It is in a great location (right next to Bikini and Kakao beaches in Orient Bay)! The staff is very friendly. It is safe ... and clean. The bed could have been softer though. It was obviously off-season for tourists, as a few amenities at the hotel and on the island were closed. There needs to be much more signage giving directions on the island, including for the hotel.

Colorful Retreat on St. Maarten
Eric Aug 28, 2009
We visited Alamanda in low season (August) and only four rooms were occupied in the whole resort. This is a definite plus if ... you want peace and quiet, but it can be a bit too quiet when virtually nobody is visible on the hotel grounds. The room was extremely large and well-appointed with ammenities. There was a nice balcony with chairs and a table for evening relaxation. The pool is medium sized with limited seating, but it is a pleasant setting for a quiet swim. The continental breakfast is a great selection of fruit, a bread basket, and coffee, and juice served at your table. The disadvantage of the location is the proximity to the public beach parking area and lanes that lie between the resort and the beach, and this area can become busy during the day. Orient Beach is an excelent beach less than 50 yards from the pool. The beach can be very busy with people, but there are lots of watersport options and places to eat and drink on the water.
Traveler type: Couples
There's no need to travel far for a wide variety of dining options. There are plenty of restaurants at this beach spot. Most have great seating outdoors.

Hard Gem To Fine, But Once You Do.....
B. Espo Aug 21, 2009
The location of the resort is perfect for easy access to the gorgeous beach, some great quick delicious meals, and to just ... sit back and relax. You'll truly appreciate this spot if you take a travel to the noisy and stressful dutch side of the island. If you are looking to go to a place that is beautiful, quiet, and relaxing then this is your spot to be!

This hotel is in a fantastic location in Orient Bay, right next to a number of restaurants, a great beach & fabulous beach ... bars. We had a deluxe ocean view room, which included a second bedroom and had a view of the ocean. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Aging hotel with great location
Vito Jul 30, 2009
We have traveled extensively around the Caribbean and know what to expect. The rooms are nice but showing wear (torn ... curtains, burnt out light blub, broken shower head, excessive mold in shower, musty smelling, etc.) The dressers were too small to be useful for clothing storage (though looked nice). Morning front desk girl unfriendly and rude when we complained about a broken shower head, rest of staff was nice. Palm Court Hotel up the road is a better value.

Review of Alamanda, 7/15/09-7/20/09
gkbair Jul 21, 2009
We had a great time on our vacation. The Alamanda is in a perfect location, situated right on Orient Beach. The front desk ... person gave us a very thorough introduction with a map when we first arrived. I got up every other morning and ran 4 miles on the beach with the ocean breeze blowing through my hair! Awesome! The hotel itself is above average, parity to what you would see at an "island hotel." It's a fairly small intimate resort (which we liked) vs a huge megaresort. The "breakfast" you get with your room cost is bread, fruit, and coffee. You have to pay extra if you want more than that. There is a little minimart around the corner where we bought our own eggs and vegetables. You have a little kitchinet in the room to cook your own food if you like. One thing I thought the hotel really needed was a fitness center. For all of $2000 they could buy a bowflex and you could be set, but being able to run on the beach was a good alternative. There is a little village around the corner that has several restaurants to choose from. Other than that you will need a taxi to take you around the island. The front desk was really good about arranging taxis for us. All in all I would stay at the Alamanda again.
Traveler type: Couples
If you got to the dutch side they give your $1 = 1 euro which saves you about 30%. Also make sure you go with the taxis. After seeing the narrow streets there is no way I would want to rent a car! The taxi drivers know all the shortcuts and I would most certainly gotten lost. Once I added up the taxi costs (which are expensive) I found I would've saved only around $20 if I had rented a car, so I was glad I didn't.

First Time at Alamanda was Perfect
Beach Lover Jul 18, 2009
Our stay at the Alamanda Resort was perfect. I'd definitely stay again and recommend the resort to friends. The staff was ... friendly and very accommodating. Our room was comfortable and clean. We enjoyed eating our continental breakfast of fresh fruit, French bread, and croissants on our private patio every morning. The Alamanda is right on the beach and we could see and hear the ocean from our room. The beach was beautiful and fun with restaurants and bars scattered throughout the area. We found the French side of the island a little more pricey than the Dutch side, but it was worth it!
Traveler type: Couples
Pick up a few grociers at the local store. Rooms at the Alamanda come with a small kitchen so you can make light meals and keep snacks and drinks to take with you to the beach. We also used the public bus system to get to Marigot, Phillipsburg, etc. We might rent a car next time for a little more freedom:)

Alamanda Resort & Orient Beach
Kim Jul 17, 2009
We stayed at the resort for our Honeymoon and it was exactly what we were looking for. Smaller property with friendly, ... helpful staff. Rooms are clean and it was nice to have a refrigerator for drinks and snacks. The pool is great and it only takes about a minute to walk to the beach. The view of the ocean is limited due to the layout of the property, but it is worth paying for the upgrade to an Ocean View Room just for the balcony. The resort serves breakfast only and the bar was not open since it was low season. This really was not a problem at all since Orient Beach has lots of lunch restaurants and there are dinner restaurants right next to the resort. There is also a grocery/liquor right around the corner. Since we were there in low season (July), the resort was very quiet and we had a lot of time with the pool to ourselves. I could see it being pretty loud and chaotic though during high season due to the courtyard layout of the property. From what I understand, Orient Beach gets pretty crowded as well.

Grand Case has some amazing restaurants and is just a 5 minute drive. For casual, authentic and inexpensive cuisine, check out Sky's the Limit. For a big night out, try Il Nettuno. Great views, service and seafood.

A motel on the beach parking lot
Not-what-we-expected Jun 29, 2009
1. It is a motel-like place, not a "resort". 2. We had to complain to get an acceptable room (initially given a worn out, not ... very clean room in a high-traffic location, next to the office, even though there were plenty of empty rooms). 3. Beware of credit card calls to US from the room telephone: I was charged $40 for 1-2 min calls, and the rates were not disclosed in advance. 4. Prepare for expensive meals, even by European standard, and no alternatives.

MA May 27, 2009
This is our 3rd stay at the Alamanda in three years. We have stayed at other hotels in St. Martin, but we love this ... location, price and service. Thge rooms are clean and spacious. The staff is friendly and helpful. Add to those a location on Orient Beach - near restaurants and a "square" with restaurants and few shops (including asmall grocery store). Everything one needs is right there.

Many of the restaurants offer the same price dollar for euro - if you npay bcash - a significant savings right now.

The hotel location and beauty of the area and the hotel is great.Rooms are very nice and clean. We had an airconditioner ... problem and it took three trips with three different people on the front desk to get it looked at and fixed. should have been done the first time but everyone has personel problems these days. We have been to St Martin before so we know to rent a car and visit Marigot and Grand Case for great dining, cheaper than the Taxis and much more reliable.

cote plages in the complex behind the hotel excelent,Lescapade in Grand Case, and Tropicana on the wharf in Marigot are great. Great Snorkeling on the North side of Pinell island take the ferry from Cul De Sac.
