What A Disappointment
Silver Fox Sep 7, 2009
The hotel was advertised by Cheaptickets as 4 star. If that is so, standards have really dropped. The hotel is designed for ... looks, not function. You have no control over the room temperature. The air conditioner is either on or off; so, you go to bed with it on low to keep the room cool, and wake up freezing. After turning it off, you wake up overheated. After complaining about this, we were told all rooms were that way. Few of the hotel staff were friendly or helpful. They either ignored you; or they acted like they had more important things to do. Little things, like being unable to fill the coffee pot with water without unplugging and moving it, were very irritating. The doors closed very loudly (which could not be avoided) causing all night sleeping interruption.

Use The Bus for transportation. The drivers are extremely helpful in getting you to your destination. It is both efficient and inexpensive. We were there for a week, and found no need for a rental car. We even rode all the way around the island for a dollar per person (senior citizen rate)!

Inter-island hopper Aug 26, 2009
I always stay here and love the location and the hotel. This time however i was greeted by someone not so friendly or ... helpful. I had to to her job for her and my reservation was messed up because of the hotel's incompetence. I resolved the issue on my time and was able to make the best of it. I have never had this problem before and hope to never have it again.

The hotel doesn't have a good dining selection as it did years ago. But being next to the mall can make up for it. Also the night time entertainment is only 2 nights a week now when it used to be every night.

We came in for a funeral. When I booked it said a queen size bed with a couch. We had a double bed and no couch. It was ... very cramped. The valet service men were very efficient and pleasant. Housekeeping staff came knocking on the door that first morning there before 8:30 a.m. Once they forgot to leave wash towels. We also had to ask for a roll of toilet tissue.

Great hotel for the budget traveller
consumate consumer Aug 4, 2009
For the price and location, this place was perfect. We stayed in the cheapest room (non Ocean view, "queen" bed) which ... definitely was not normal queen sized. However, the room was spotless, and if you're the kind of traveller that doesn't need a lot of space to put their stuff, this place is perfect. It's across from the Ala Moana shopping center which has a food court, great shops and also minutes to walk to the beach. The fitness center was AWESOME. They had all new Technogym equipment, sauna, steam room, and it was huge. The best I've ever seen at a hotel. Parking is $15 for 24 hours. You can park your car for free at the Ala Moana Center during the day (no overnight parking). Room was quiet, staff was friendly. Only minus points: - the bed was small, room felt cramped because we had a baby with us so we needed the crib, and my husband is 6'3" so the bed seemed too small. - Upon reaching the hotel at about 2:15, we were informed that our room was not ready but we could get a room upgrade for $20 more per night which was available. The hotel clerk was polite and did not pressure us but still I thought this was not very customer friendly. We didn't upgrade and left our bags at the bell hop and got lunch instead. Staff seemed a bit slow to clean up the room. Otherwise overall a great deal for what you get.

If you have a car, check out the Diamondhead Grill, a locals plate lunch/dinner place. Awesome food for cheap!! And well rated too. Instead of 2 lumps of white rice, you can get healthier option of brown rice. If you want a food adventure, go to the 2nd floor cafe at the Shinjoyu japanese department store when you exit Macy's on the right. Some very interesting eating options!

Average hotel higher than average price
Plant Biologist Jul 29, 2009
This is a very average hotel (contrary to the online pics & price). I'm not sure that it is worth the price. The rooms were ... VERY small, but clean. The staff was really helpful & friendly. My trip was for business at the Hawaii Convention Center, so for this the location was perfect. It is attached to the Ala Moana shopping center which was convenient for meals & groceries. If you just want to vacation in Waikiki though, I'd look for another hotel closer to that beach & for a better price.
Traveler type: Business
There is a grocery store in the Ala Moana shopping center, a Wal-Mart just up the street, & a food court in the mall....we bought groceries for our hotel fridge & ate many of our meals away from Waikiki to save money.

Oahu in June
KiniKauai Jun 30, 2009
I chose a "partial ocean view" room, and paid a little extra for it on Orbitz. When I arrived to check in, I was told I'd ... been "upgraded to the Waikiki Tower at no extra charge". Upon entering my room, I was very disappointed to find that I had no ocean view whatsoever, but was overlooking the parking lots of the businesses and towers behind the hotel. My room was not larger and did not have any extra amenities, so I viewed the "upgrade" as a "downgrade" that I paid extra for.

For buisness
Buisness mom May 22, 2009
I was at the hotel for buisness. The breakfast restaurant said they had made to order meals but when you show up they only ... offer buffett. The buffett was average but over priced. The wait staff were very friendly. To park at the hotel for 4 nights was $60.00. This was not mentioned. The pool bar and restaurnt were closed (did not indicate that in their website). The lobby bar was closed (also not mentioned). Restaurant at top of hotel was also closed and their were signs advertising this. I liked the convenience store in the hotel and short stroll to Ala Moana shopping center. Friend I met there told me that they are condos and if you go through condo onwer it is cheaper. Had problem with TV and it took 50 min for someone to come up and help.
