During your Las Vegas vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:

Wee Kirk O' the Heather
This is the oldest wedding chapel in Las Vegas (it's been here since 1940; ah, Vegas, and its mixed-up view of age) and the one at the very end of the Strip, right before Downtown (and thus even closer to the license bureau). It would be declared a historic landmark, except some renovations in the past moved just enough of the interior walls to alter it sufficiently to keep it from being official. An even more recent face-lift invigorated it. The decor is entirely fresh, and while that means gold satin patterned wallpaper in the chapel, we still like it a great deal. Just the right balance between kitsch and classic, and that's what you want in a Vegas wedding chapel. After all, what else is the point?

Desert Rose Golf Club
This is an 18-hole, par-71 public course built in 1963 and designed by Dick Wilson and Joe Lee. Narrow fairways feature Bermuda turf. You can reserve tee times up to 7 days in advance.Yardage: 6,511 championship, 6,135 regular, and 5,458 ladies.Facilities: Driving range, putting and chipping greens, PGA teaching pro, pro shop, restaurant, and cocktail lounge.

Liberace Museum
Forget all that stuff we said before about the great museums of the world. You can keep your Louvres and Vaticans and Smithsonians: This is a museum. Housed, like everything else in Vegas, in a strip mall, this is a shrine to the glory and excess that was the art project known as Liberace. You've got your costumes (bejeweled), your many cars (bejeweled), your many pianos (bejeweled), and many jewels (also bejeweled). Also, the entrance itself is a giant jewel. It just shows what can be bought with lots of money and no taste. The thing is, Liberace was in on the joke (we think). The people who come here largely aren't. Many of these guests would not have liked him living next door to them if his name was, say, Bruce Smith, but they idolize the-man-the-myth. Not found here is any reference to AIDS or chauffeurs who had plastic surgery to look more like him. But you will find a Czar Nicholas uniform with 22-karat-gold braiding and a blue-velvet cape styled after the coronation robes of King George V and covered with $60,000 worth of rare chinchilla. Not to mention a 50.6-pound rhinestone costing $50,000, the world's largest, presented to him by the grateful (we bet they were) Austrian firm that supplied all his costume stones. The museum is now better than ever thanks to a costly renovation that turned what was once a too-low-key exhibition (especially given the subject matter) into something much more gaudy and over-the-top -- and, better still, properly enshrined. Expect a ridiculously outrageous entrance (three words: giant pink piano) into rooms with various exhibits that finally give detailed attention to facts and figures. Admission has been cranked up, probably to pay for the renovations, but we don't mind -- this is a one-of-a-kind place. Unless you have a severely underdeveloped appreciation for camp or take your museum-going very seriously, you shouldn't miss it. The museum is 2 1/2 miles east of the Strip on your right.

ballys is the poor cousin of the adjoining paris i usually stay at one or the other during the showest convention in march both have a common business center and for hotels that are trying to support convention trade they have woefully inadequate support for anyone trying to work and reply to conventioneers and home office. Neither has wireless support, prices are ridiculously high and facilities to send/receive fax and email are strictly amateur ... there's a distinct impression that they know this and do not care as they are the only game in town ... shameful, really

Great accommodations

Kenneth, Madison, WI, 2007-03-05

Close to entertainment, shopping, etc.

The room I stayed in was very comfortable with a great view. It was close to many of the attractions that I wanted to see. The bathroom was exceptionally nice. The only thing I would have liked to see in the hotel room was a coffee maker.

Location and Comfort

James, Lizard Island, 2007-02-28

The Las Vegas monorail transit system is a fair alternative to cab fares when travelling up and down the strip or to the convention center. But like most things in Vegas, you have to be prepared to walk a bit.

Bally's is a reliable hotel located in the heart of the action. My room was comfortable, spacious and nicely furnished. Front desk service was pleasant and efficient, but the lines were slow.

Disappointed!

Nosh has great munchies for a reasonable price.

This hotel had a great loction. The rooms needed updating, the furniture was extremely old. I would have recommeneded to stay in the north tower as that tower has been remodeled. The rooms were very large.

Great Location

Karen, 2007-02-23

This hotel was right in the middle of the strip, so it was nice to get to many of the other hotels by either walking, or cab, or the Duece. The staff gave us great recommendations as to the price of each, and what our best way to get around would be.

We loved Ballys! Right in the heart of everything, friendly and helpful staff, great, large, clean room. Our only complaint was the check in process. We waited quite a long time to check in as the hotel was very busy on the day we checked in. I can't say that this made us dissatisfied though, as staff was very friendly and apologetic when we got up to the counter, and explained that the time that we went there were an unbelivable amount of people in the city due to a variety of things. He changed our room at our request immediately, and was willing to make our stay very comfortable. We had a ball!

My review of Ballys Las Vegas

Anonymous, 2007-02-23

Bally's was a great place to stay, great location at mid strip and the room was huge. Bed was very comfortable, room was very clean and there were plenty of towels and toiletries. Also had free shuttle to other casinos which was great and lots of things to do within walking distance.
