CheapTickets
has just unveiled its new Urban Traveler section
– which is devoted to better serving the travel needs and interests of the African-American
community.

The Urban Traveler section offers:

  • Featured content provided by EbonyJet.com
  • A "Top Spots" list highlighting the hottest urban
    travel destinations and events
  • A "Featured Destination" spotlight about the most
popular urban destinations and event of the month.

Urban Traveler also includes a blog, featuring travel information and insight from magazine
editors, museum curators, celebrities and more. The first blog post is by
EbonyJet.com’s Senior Editor Terry Glover.

Here’s an excerpt:

We are pleased to partner with CheapTickets.com’s new Urban Traveler site to highlight some of those destinations and available travel options. Of our EbonyJet.com top picks (check back often, because we’re constantly peeping new hot spots!) my top choice of historic destinations would have to be the Frederick Douglass house in Washington, D.C.

Besides his legacy as a great orator and abolitionist, the fact that Douglass staked out a homestead in an area designated as "off limits" speaks to the challenges we’ve been able to overcome and the striver in all of us that turns every obstacle into an opportunity. The fact that he did it smack in the middle of our nation’s seat of government sweetens the pie!

Day of Deals: Washington, D.C., hotel bargains

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Washingtonmon
By Heather Leisman

Just in time for Presidents Day, our focus is on the nation’s capital — Washington, D.C. — known for its cool urban neighborhoods, historic monuments and great dining.

D.C. also offers many free attractions — including the zoo and all of
the Smithsonian museums — making it a prime destination for
CheapTickets’ Deal of the Day.

Looking at higher-end Washington hotels, our CheapTickets’ Deal of the Day is the four-star George Hotel, where I found rates for just $118 a night from February 22 to February 25. But right now you can get 30 percent off the regular rates when you stay 3 nights or more.

Plus, if you combine it with our CheapTickets Big City Getaways sale, you’ll save an additional $75 off D.C. or any other Big City destinations.

Here’s why it’s a great deal:

  • It’s an elegant, boutique hotel, part of the Kimpton Hotel chain
  • It’s within walking distance of Capitol Hill and Union Station
  • It earned a 4.7 out of 5 rating from CheapTickets customers who stayed at the hotel.

Now here’s another cheap tip: If you’re driving to this hotel and you park across the street, you can save about half of what you’d pay by parking at the hotel.

Watch the video to see why this hotel deserves to be the Deal of the Day.
